- Family builds a unique off-grid outdoor shower out of hyperadobe earthbags and recycled glass bottle bricks. This was a fun little project that included our first exposed aggregate concrete floor, a drain that flows directly to our permaculture berm and swale ( • GREENING THE DESERT w/... ), a ridiculous amount of glass bottle bricks, a multi day earthbag workshop, a portable outdoor water heater, and the fanciest shower head we’ve had in over a decade.

You are not just building a beautiful self-sustaining homestead for your family, you are also teaching the world your techniques. You are helping to save the planet. Countries all around world are greening up the land that has been turning to desert. African countries, Spain to name a few. You are demonstrating how 1 family can create a beautiful clean greenscape homestead in the desert of Arizona. Who knew??? You are teaching the impossible. Thank you for sharing with the world. Love your chanel.
So true !!!
You forgot to mention Israel , Which since 1948 has been greening up the desert so much so that they now provide fruit and vegetables and flowers to the entire continent of Europe And much of the middle east! Humans can't save the planet , that is in God's control, but they should do all they can to conserve the resources he is given us. Don't buy the world economic forum Climate change agenda , that is all about controlling us. Here in America we adore our free speech and our freedoms! It's the big manufacturers that don't care about trashing our planet as long as they make a buck! And they are the ones that need to be regulated
You might also like the channel named: mylittlehomestead they are also in Arizona and have been building and upgrading the different systems for growing their own food. One of the sons setup a hydroponic garden. As the children have gotten married they have built homes for them on the homestead.
985 bottles
I think there are close to 5000 bottles used on the wall. I absolutely LOVE that the kids are as connected to the work as you are. ALL aspects of it. They may not decide to be as grounded in their lives but they all have skills that 99% of young don't have ... the most important being how to solve problems!
I love showering outside! I developed a love for it when I lived in a trailer park in Broussard, LA. Our travel trailer has such a small shower, I hung sheets and used the hose, yes with cold water. Years later, I was living at my mother's house, and her tub drain was terribly stopped up. She kept putting drain cleaner in the tub, which ate the porcelain coating off the tub, so I made my own shower on her patio. Again, using sheets and the garden hose. The whole family started using it until my brother could come and rehab the bathroom. The idea of having an outdoor shower with hot water sounds amazing!
South Louisiana here❤⚜️
😂🤣 I’ll just bet the cats will jump up and watch y’all showering when you start using it! It’s a gorgeous shower, good job!!!
Oh, nooo! That’s so much nicer than our camp shower! 🤔 720 bottles and two muddy doodles…
The Muddy Doodles -
isn't that a band
I once saw in the PNW?!
AWESOME!!!! That shower must feel amazing! And there’s something daring and magical about showering outside, free and with beautiful nature all around! Congrats for keeping it a secret so long! It’s beautiful and I wish I could shower there!!! Love you guys!
That is so cool I can remember when I first built my shop on my property cause they wouldn't let me have the house on the property I parked my bus at the back of the shop cut a hole right through my shop and built a tunnel into my bus store and then I got a bunch of lumber dumped off one time a guy that toured down buildings asked if I wanted some lumber I said sure for firewood I come home at two o'clock in the morning after I closed the coffee shop down and I couldn't get into my drive my whole front yard was covered in two by fours plywood everything I was shocked so when I built the sun deck on the back of the house I built it out of solid two by fours for the decking so I put 8 outside shower on the decking which was basically a squeeze shower head on a hose but I didn't have the privacy you guys had because my neighbors couldn't see cause one end of the sun deck I built up wall on it so it gave me a bit of privacy but the rest is all Bush in the backyard around it's all park the 13 foot drop down into the park so I didn't need privacy and it was just all cold water no warm water so only did it the summer didn't want to go out there minus 10 and have a cold shower I had to shower in a bus or I just sat in the sink at the coffee shop cause it was a big kitchen from an old restaurant decide in the sink and had a shower at one o'clock in the morning or 10:00 o'clock in the morning 'cause it didn't open I like your shower much better
The shower is absolutely beautiful! I count 744 bottles.
Showing my work like they taught us in school; I did my best to check how long each row is, since there are 8 rows, and since each row starts one bottle in from the outer edge, I just have to count how many bottles more each row has than the one below it, add the number from below, offset diagonally as we go up. so, all in all, I counted a total of 372 bottle bricks, which each is made up of two bottles, for a grand total of 744 bottles. 🍾🍾
Just to show my work even more (I was bored and this challenge was apparently just what my brain needed tonight):
41:57 - row 8 (the bottom row) counts 25 bottle bricks.
45:30 - row 7 has 12 more bricks than the one below, so 37.
36:48 - row 6 has seven more bricks, so 44.
37:37 - using the end point of row 6 to know where the 44-bottle point is, the next 4 rows (the ones that end by the shelf) count almost the same, but the off-set means they're overall shrinking slightly - so rows 5-2 are respectively 51, 50, 50, and 49 bottles long.
counting up to the shower head, row 1 (the top row) has 52 bricks. you can count the bricks to the right of the shower in the above shot, but an even clearer one is at 41:48, showing the final 14 bricks for a total of 66 bricks in the top row.
Wow! You did it! And I cannot believe you took the time to really find out! Please shoot us an email with your address so we can send you something fun! Cheers!
@@TinyShinyHome Like I said, my brain thrived on the challenge, haha. Anyway, email sent through the form on your site, since that's the way I know how to contact y'all. Hope you're having a good one! 💗
Oh my gosh that’s awesome, and outdoor shower is a great idea. I just noticed Ada got a haircut, that style looks so cute on her. I remember when my daughters were teenagers and they started having their own styles. They grow up so quickly. My youngest is 35 now.! my guess is 933. The views that you have are absolutely breathtaking. What a magical moment it must be to experience. It’s like the heavens are opened up and you have a Birdseye view.
This is beautiful! I love the bottles and I think you used 1248 bottles. You must all be so proud
It was really neat to be able to see the whole build in one sitting...a great surprise!!! It looks wonderful and I know you are loving it!
Hh
The kittens are giving you their own seal of approval and being good supervision specialists. They need their red badge! I have a helper kitty too he likes to help with making my bed, and packing my backpack for work!
What a fantastic variation from your normal videos. Showing the result at the start and not letting us wait for weeks (or months). Much appreciated. And congratulations on your new shower. 804 bottles. Cheers.
1304 bottles, Looks amazing guys !! Can't wait to see what y'all do with the house.
1026 bottles is my guess based on Ashley's mouth movements 😊 and an estimate of each 30 foot row. I love seeing your builds.
The care you take on the finish of all your buildings leads me to have confidence that your house will be amazing.
550 bottles used so wonderful the things you are sharing with the world I'm learning so much as I follow your channel thank you.
That's really awesome, finished out pretty good. Here's a tip on exposed aggregate: after the concrete is down, and your laying the pea gravel ; use a wood float trowel first too tamp it in and cover with the concrete cream. Then use your mag trowel with the steel. Once smooth call it good, and spray it with a, portable gallon spray bucket: 1gallon water with 1cup of sugar ; spray entire surface. This will stop the concrete from hardening on the surface. Then when the concrete is hard enough to walk on rinse the surface off exposing the aggregate, use a broom if needed. Then allow for it too cure then seal if desired. This method is used by professionals and works really well.
Also might I suggest a cover over the drain outline to prevent critter migration and clogging up the line. Have a good week and God bless amen.
Ps 500 bottle.
That couple deserve a good peaceful scenic shower forever!!! Great job guys
920 is my guess! This is one cool looking shower! The bottle brick wall is is absolutely stunning. You have outdone yourselves again! Well done!!❤
I just love those bottles. How wonderful to stand there and watch the sun setting while showering.
The red marker is a “witness mark”. It gets drawn after the fitting is torqued correctly. If the fitting walks itself off, the mark doesn’t line up and at inspection’s you hopefully see problems before they get bad. In more expensive applications, it is a brittle paint that will shatter with even tiny movement on the fasteners, making it even easier to see a problem early.
I would love to have still shots of all the spiders and insects you have in your area... that Brown Tarantula was amazing!
Wow! The outdoor shower is absolutely gorgeous!!! Well done guys! I'm sure it was a fun workshop too!
Great job!! Looks like such a great place to shower, beautiful landscape and the most gorgeous sunsets I’ve ever seen!!
563 (x 2) = 1126 bottles total
That shower looks fantastic. You all did a great job! My guess is 1268 bottles.
First time watcher and having been a handyman for 40 years I can safely say you has a tough wife and family, thats a TOUGH project but brother when you're out there in a hot shower...well you know! I'll be watching, thanks.
This shower turned out sooooo Cool, LoVe it ❗️
The bottles are AWESOME…the shape & texture of the walls GREAT…the cement floor looks so colorful, a very unique structure ❗️
1160 bottles. I love the whole concept of the outdoor shower. It’s so simple. I grew up with an outdoor shower in the summers. Alan
A hot shower is a game changer and one with a view is all the more wonderful. Thanks for the video.
That cat wants to be in movies!!! Get him an agent.
851 - glad to see that you are using the rotary wire brushes on the bottles. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peaceful greetings from NE Ohio.
has to be an even number
Another awesome video and project guys!! The shower looks fantastic. You do such a great job with all the creative camera shots too. Also I’m obsessed with Cloud, he’s adorable ❤
How refreshing to take a shower under the sun and art to look at.
You are BEING the difference. THANK you!
Beautiful job on the shower. I’m guessing 1052 bottles. It will be so nice to stretch out in your shower. The skyline morning and evening are spectacular. Love you guys.😘💖
The outdoor shower is super cute!! Great job A & J & kids!
1652 bottles?
Looks like a great addition to the homestead! Congratulations
Is it too late to guess??? I'm guessing 867!!! This is amazing, work and dedication!!! I love you guys channel!!!
That was brilliant. 🧡 Awesome work by everyone 🧡 Someone needs to invent super industrial strength dampers for you lol 🧡
I'm guessing around 1200 bottles. Ashley did a lot of cutting for this one. Glass and a table saw--scary stuff. Love the doodles and the kitties -- always in the middle of everything. Can't work without the inspectors!
Asking yourself WHY that line appeared which is crossing out part of your sentence?
Here's what happened...
When you type the dash
and add it on to the right side of a word,
AND
there's no space between the dash and the word,
THEN
follow it with a 2nd dash
which is to the left of a word,
with no space between
the dash and the word,
THAT'S
when the computer adds in the cross through line
of all the words between
the 2 dashes.
Ex;
-cross out my words-
To avoid that,
simply put a space between each dash and the words next to it.
- add spaces & don't cross out my words -
@@gardengatesopenBut, what if the line was put there intentionally? There is a strike thru script command. I use it as a way to let myself know I have already done a task on a list I created. Just saying.
@@madmex2k
We'll then you've completed the task you set out to do.
Obvs
1175 bottles in the shower
1320 bottles
The shower looks amazing! I would guess around 1200 bottles, but how ever many they are, they'll look amazing with natural light streaming through!
All I can say is, It's about Time!! I can not imagine how you got everyone showered in the trailer! Especially with 4 teenagers and all the heat on the desert, Good luck enjoy all your new amenities.
Wow, you're not only building a home, you're building a museum! I imagine all the magazines will want showcase your home.
The open shower turned out gorgeous! I love it! Good job everyone 👏 I think there are at least 1320 bottles in this installation.
Such a beautiful place to shower in a stunning setting. I cut lots of bottles for an earthship in Nepal with a stunning view to take away the monotony so my guess is 1260 bottles. You did a lot of cutting, Ashley
You had a very nice breeze for part of the build - hope it kept you cool.
MAYBE the artists in the fam could do drawings / paintings of a bottle wall or whatever their creative minds create for a card selection.
I'm guessing 1184 bottles
Looks absolutely beautiful
That is the most beautiful shower ❤
Such beautiful sunrises and sunsets! Also, a beautiful shower!
Ashley, with the large amount of water bottles, it looks fantastic, I love it!!! Agian your family amazes me, everybody picthes in like a lot, I adore your family!!! My guess is; 857 bottles!!!??
Much LOVE To All of You
~Kimmy G.
P.S. Did I mention how awesome All the Bottles look, so Cool!!!
1040 bottles! Whatever the number, you guys rock the hard work! I love the shape and look of the outdoor shower! Outdoor showers are the best!
I have been watching your channel for some time now and I have fallen in love with your family. Your videos are so informative they’re helping others all over this world. You have done an excellent job/service for your land. Great caretakers of the earth. I think you used 1,189 bottles in the shower build, which looks amazing. What a beautiful shower.✌🏻❤️🙏🏻
it would have to be an even number, ;)
That was an awesome job on the outdoor shower. Just beautiful.
Manpower and Mom-power breaking your tamps. “Be gentle with it made me laugh!”
I could go on and on about why this channel is SOOO AWESOME!!!!!!
But please allow me to say that this video was quick, informative, and very interesting!
I do not have the time, and therefore patience to actually WATCH a lot of the newer videos!
This one was definitely a refreshing change. Do not fault me, please. I simply don't have the time right now, so I will skip over them. Please understand!!!!!
As always, I love the channel and the content!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great work. Can imagine shower schedules are very important with the amount of work preformed. You do make it seem like most things are possible. Thank you for sharing your hard earned knowledge.
I’d say about 1100 bottles.
This looks beautiful! I bet you guys will be so glad to have that done with the start of your new house!
I love your daughter's haircut!❤
1012 bottles. Amazing shower and love, love, love the bottles.
I'm going to guess 1,000 bottles in the wall. Great job, everyone! What a beautiful outdoor shower you have created. I'm sure it will be a joy to take a shower out there while gazing at the mountains and the sunset. Also my dog and I love watching your dogs play. And I love all the kids' short summer haircuts.🥰
Beautiful!!! I missed you guys, SOOOOOOO MUCH! Let me tell you, I love your music choices and all you do! :) God bless! :D
The shower is gorgeous. Love all the bottles, looks stunning with the sun shining through. Jax looked pretty handy with the hammer! I bet the wire brushes worked well. I thought they might damage the glass but they looked ok. I can hardly wait for the house build to start. Best of wishes
That is an awesome shower, beautiful, just simply beautiful. I think there if 990 bottles….or more. Great family project! You always produce something that is so lovely to see. Practical but just a wonderful thing to see and use!
998 bottles, looks great! I think it’s amazing that you share all of your experiments with the world. I have a thought for maybe helping the algorithm, what if you add any questions you have and experiment on as tags on your video descriptions. Then more googlers may find you as their how-to source!
Also also, masking the bottle ends sounds awful, but what if you dipped them in a warmed wax? Chip it and any stucco/mortar off when complete. It will add one small prep step and hopefully make that grinding/cleaning easier.
Congratulations on another project completed! It looks beautiful and I would love to have one.
That is absolutely beautiful! Thanks for the full build video on it, and thanks to the workshop workers that learned and helped! (Oh, and the kitty cat helpers too😂) Texas Deb
Thank you so much for sharing your family journey with me. I look forward to seeing what has been happening with you. I absolutely love the outdoor shower and wish I was there enjoying it instead of taking a shower here in Iowa. I send hugs and lots of joy to you and yours. Your friend, Jennifer
Hi that shower is a work of art! I am guessing that you have 896 bottles in your wall. Looks great!!
Absolutely love the shower ! What a team !
Guys, it looks amazing. Love the bottle work and having an outdoor shower is the best. Love the kitties walking around on it. Great job everyone. Love and be safe!🤗😘🌼🇻🇪
I knew it! It was an outdoor shower 🚿. We love our outdoor showers in Florida!!! Ya'll that's beyond cool. It's so wonderful to see families work together to build their dream. Your kids, are rock stars! Ashley, I wish I lived closer, I would love to help with bottles. I think ya'll should put your bathing suits on and shower away for the first time. Honestly, is there is a tarantula in that shower, who cares. The view is amazing.825 bottlesI love our tankless water heater..
Most Excellent! Another great thing that I discovered about outdoor showers (and lakes) is that when you have gotten yourself particularly filthy, you can have someone bring out a change of clothes for you, put 'em on a hook, walk into the shower WITH your clothes on, shower the dirt off, peel off the wet duds, shower you! You don't track any dirt into the tiny shiny, the office, or the Casa de Caca! A definite WIN!!
You all are an inspiration! Loved this start to finish project. The photography was EXCELLENT hope you enjoy many many showers and that the dog’s get some sudsy showers after all their shenanigan - only fair😂 Oh 1122 bottles 😮
That outdoor shower turned out awesome!!
5 beautiful humans. Salute!
596 bottles? Love it. Nothing like a relaxing outdoor space!
I say about 850 bottles but it is just so pretty it wouldn’t matter! I am absolutely sure each of you enjoyed a nice long shower after all that work😅
Y'all are so sneaky 😊. What a wonderful place to shower 😍
Ok, this would prompt me to get up at the crack of dawn to take a shower just so I could stand there in that lovely shower, with hot water, cool air, and the glorious view!! Good work, Tiny Shiny Home Family!! ❤
I'm guessing 864 bottles. Nice work. Enjoy your beautiful shower!🎉
So fun watching y'alls journey in building your family homestead. ❤ I'm guessing 756ish bottles. Looks fantastic! 🎉
The outdoor shower is super cool 😎 i love everything about it. Way to go guys - as usual 😀
Holy Moly, I haven’t watched since you built the office/house. Look how you progressed. Kids working right in there. I cant even get my son for a weekend to help build my garden house. My husband did it, but I worried he was dying a few times doing all the lifting hammering cutting roofing himself. God bless you all. Love the looks of the cool working mama. Just LOVE YOU ALL!
Hello from northeast Georgia! I love watching your videos, especially your use of colored bottles. Which reminds me, have you ever made a bottle tree? I’ve had a couple of friends tell me they will make me one with rebar, but so far they haven’t come through with one. Love to your family! BTW… my guess is 910 bottles.
Fantastic work, I loved watching this episode ❤
Thanks for sharing 👍
How amazing people you are! It is true you teach and practice for the entire world! You are making the world a better place! I love you guys! A grateful big thank you! ❤
WOW the shower is amazing you guy's! Always Love watching!
Looks amazing! ❤
Wow how beautiful! per usual an amazing build!
E bellissimo fare la doccia e guardare orizzonte , meraviglioso ragazzi. Siete migliori.
What a FAMILY !!! A friend from Greece
That looks so inviting , makes me want to go take another shower.
I've been watching "my little homestead" do this for years. Very interesting.
You guys are raising awesome kids. Not just the knowledge of learning these skills, but planning, time management, working as a team and learning to be adaptable when solving problems. You guys rock at parenting. 👍 1506.
Amazing job was brilliant idea to have it as part of the workshop, people got to see and help on a real project and because it wasn’t so big they got to see it near completion… I reckon there are 894 bottles.
Amazing and well-planned. When you used your truck bed to haul your building materials, I thought - boy, they could use a dump trailer. Just hook it up when it was needed and the trailer could be used to haul other things. I'm pretty sure that you've researched the possibility, but then I went online and was stunned at the costs of purchasing even a used one, In California, locally, where I live, a used one starts at $11K. Good idea, but out of budget. Oh well, keep it on your wish list - maybe someone will sponsor, donate, or make a deal on one that will meet your needs.
It is a great idea, but it's a bit pricey. I just wish that I could magically send all the necessary materials through the ether to their home!
That shower turned out so cool! Reminds me of when I lived in Mexico and they had outdoor showers that were so big you could put 6 people in it easily lol
Amazing project!
It’s gotta be cool showering outside.
I would say 386 bottles.
997 bottles... just found your channel from this video annnnnd I ❤ it!
Welcome aboard!
1353 bottles
I hadn’t even considered how handy this will be for dog washing!! I love this, it is a work of art!!
It would be handy if when they walked out it wasn’t dirt… 😂
