"And that was me from the Twin Peaks Red Room..."
I love your wonderful, quiet jokes that just pop in out of nowhere.
18 months ago, I saw your Morphagene video, and started thinking about modular. But, everybody said it was too complex a module to start with, and I should build on function and utilities first, which I did. Now, one year in, I've 3/4 filled my 2nd RB6U, and it has most everything except effects. But, my vendor has Morphagene and Mimeophon arriving next week! So, I'm buying both, with Erbe Verb to follow in May...
That synth mode…wow. It’s like when guitarists play with feedback, but with greater control over the harmonics. You’re right - that’s the greatest thing about this device.
it sounds like a stephen o'malley show
This is the clearest review and tutorial yet. The use of samples of actual instruments is appreciated.
Totally amazing to see a bit of Echophon, Morphagene, ErbeVerb and even the Mysteron in a single module that adds something new to all of them.
Serious Portal 2 vibes from that opening sequence :)
Wow, my jaw dropped when I heard the feedback synth sounds- was not expecting that haha. As always, fantastic demo!
Me too! Really makes this module useful on a whole new level.
I was awestruck and amazed by that too. As well as got the feeling that in my non-genious hands it would only make drowning tuba noises. Exclusively.
Well fuck I’m ordering one now.
what a time to be alive
What a time to be alive and have some money to spend;-)
You made the Mimeophon really shine here. Such a great module
You are so good at breaking down complexity. Amazing video as usual!
Absolutely incredible module and rundown! I must purchase this immediately!
This module just blown my mind! Awesome review. Thank you for great content Loopop!
This explanation is incredibly clear, and well organized. Bravo! You have a new fan.
Thanks so much for your videos and breakdowns of each piece of gear. They really simplify everything and breakdown the gear. Much appreciated!!!
After a tremendous back, forth, back again, straight to waters uncharted and back into a state of being completely overwhelmed by everything wanting to step into modular synthesis I settled into getting Mimeophon as my first kinda sorta proper module to accompany my half-modulars for now. I am so stoked about this thing and I am beyond excited how it will fare together with my softpop sp2 and their friends. Thanks again for you work.
Man, I love the way this sounds great!
Again a thorough walkthrough the features of this device👍
great machine! loved the beat creation using the double delay
I love how the self oscillating synth sound seems to be almost at the brink of total feedback, stops short of it, touches it barely but then also not. Well done as always, mister - thanks! :-)
FANTASTIC video. Just great. Thank you.
excellent tutorial! you've done a great job explaining it. very interesting module!!!
This really inspired me to hook my Keystep into Mimeophon. Sounds absolutely incredible!!!!!
Wow--very cool sounds! so cool! Terrific demo-thanks!
The review i was waiting for. :D Thank you buddy.
I love it!! Mimeophon is going to be my new rabbit hole.
Just got mine and it is superb! Lots of sound sculpting possibilities that really add variety to otherwise boring patches.
You have the best waving hands on the interwebs. Mostly because your verbal explanations and demos are soooo great.
Like the video as a whole, and the music, the hands themselves are a composition.
Absolutely inspiring! Great video
Best Tutorials here. Keep it going 🙏🏼
This is an excellent tutorial. Great stuff; thank you.
Been avoiding watching this but I caved. Definitely buying! Great vid!
Great demo, thanks! Mimeophon will be next module in my case :)
Fantastic walk-through.
Awesome❤ nice review as always
Really great video... excellent exploration of this module...thanks!!!
Wow, that synth aspect sounds really nice...
As always an awesome review!! Great module too. Adding that to my rack soon…😊
I've learnt so much from your video thank you.
Killer demonstration. Ive had this module since it came out, did not know about the feedback synth voice feature! I will never look at my Mimeo the same way again!
Thanks for the video, this has opened a new portal on how to approach this module :)
great video, nice dissection of this gear
that pretty crazy , definitely a candidate for my minimal setup ... I am working on
great review, thanks
Thank you for this vid. I've come back several times as I experiment with this very playable module. Applying a mod wheel to the Zone CV input is a blast btw!
Great vid! I'm a newbie, and I find one of the greatest things about modular is taking things beyond the obvious. Hardware synths and software synths seems to be limited to what you have in front of you. Modular doesn't have this limitation.
Amazing video.
Like(!), but i know I have to watch it > 3 times and i'll still be like 'omg how did I not catch that before'.
You're the man.
The tune at the end threw me back to the time of Valves Portal game came out, love that game
This is the video that got me to buy a Mimeophone.
Awesome video!
this selfoscillation after 17 minutes was dope.
clearing repeats has been added in update.
The Karplus Strong without exciter is amazing ! Wonderful ! Great demo as usual !
Thanks! My guess is there’s some noise internally that’s causing feedback to start, but yeah it’s pretty awesome
@@loopop Yes, that sounds like it does. Is the filter closing enough to be used as an LPG to shape the sound ?
I’ve had one for a while now, and was beginning to lose interest. I’m so glad I’ve seen this video, it’s given me so many fresh ideas. Thanks so much! 👍🏼
Damn, your video just made me choose it over some other kind of delay or reverb.
That dual osc thing is nuts!
Awesome!
Beautiful thank you blessed be
came back to listen to that feedback tone again. With this module, I no longer regret never figuring out how to play guitar.
Beautiful
Very interesting Module lots of functionality
makes me think of clouds a bit... with the hold feature and reverb... but not granular.. hmmm thanks again for the great upload!
nice... didnt noticed this module till now... i cant have enough efx units :-)... 17:00 mimeophon becomes some sort of "mutable rings"... thnx for the review
this I really like
amazing
Need to release that clock sync jam at 8:00 as a track :D
This is going to be a serious game changer for my Frippertronics style guitar work. This thing looks amazing. I've been holding on to my Phonogene, but mostly using it in broken echo mode these days. Maybe I'll have to let it go to partially finance one of these... who am I kidding? I'll have to save. I seriously doubt I'd ever sell a MN module.
I was thinking the same... out of rack space and this could replace my Phonogene and Echophon (which would also yield space for QPAS), but I can’t see myself selling them. Hmmmm...
"I'm jamming with history" Profound.
Ain't we all jamming with history.
Your videos function as terrific manuals for awesome products. This absolutely helped me get the most out of my Mimeophon.
Also, I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you have a eurorack case, and you don't have a Keystep, fix that.
Will do, my next purchase
Also FYI, you can now "Clear All Zones" by turning Mix and Repeats fully counter-clockwise! Con removed :)
Hi, thanks for the review! Mimeophon reminds me CBA’s (mono) Habit a bit, at least from what I understood based on the video here and not actually owning or even trying the module myself. It would probably be fun to compare them timetravel-wise or, better still, to pair them in a small setup. Great demo (and jokes, as always:)
Samurai short film score at 17:35.
MN is gonna sell a lot of these. Totally agree about the RGB LED-I know it’s an “easy solution”, but I really wish MN would move past their romance with color coding, which began with Tempi and Telharmonic.
Yes color coding sucks for color blind people like me. Its just a pain
@@HumanMotives Do you get this message read via a computervoice of how does that work?
Never met a blind person in the youtube-comment. Let alone someone who patches (must be amazing though).
Picking modules just by their function and not by their looks - has to help buying Doepfer! :D
@@milztempelrowski9281 I can see colors, but I can't tell the difference between many colors (yellow/green, blue/purple, brown/green etc). Colored LEDs in modules to show sample banks, modes, etc are a huge pain in the ass for me, especially when it becomes critical like saving states in the Rene2.
Mine arrived today, and I think it will be a friend. I'll be watching this a dozen times ;-) I love the idea of patching mono to get an effects loop. Is that an idea MakeNoise talks about? I started out thinking MakeNoise UI was confusing and unapproachable. On some level I still feel that way, but they publish a LOT of videos to help inspire and mitigate.
*This* is a really interesting and versatile module, based on a rather simple concept. I like it! [Hmm, seems to be not available, can't find it to buy in 2022 …]
Things like these make modular worth it.
Wish there would have been some more examples of using interesting modulation sources, but I suppose the official Makenoise video covers that territory a little more. Agree about a way to clear the buffer for sure.
Wow...that was a great review. This module almost seems too good to pass up.
Cool video! Like and subed!
LET’S ROCK!!!
Reminds me of the Moogerfooger Clusterflux...especially the Karplus Strong Stuff. Both can be Synths by themselves.
Recipe: 1) start with one expensive eurorack module. 2) surround that module with a bunch of other expensive eurorack modules. 3) now you can get it to do something interesting even if only of very limited use musically. I'm only half serious. 😎 But there was a time about four years ago where I was buying a lot of really cool modules left and right. And my system swelled to a quite large (for me) 624hp that represented a sizable outlay of cash. After a time I realized that I had a lot of modules that I just wasn't using very often. So eventually I was committed to downsizing my rig to no more than 208hp. And I was determined to be disciplined about it. So that meant if I wanted a module and my rack was full then I would be forced into taking enough modules out of the rack and selling them to create the space needed for the new module. Suffice it to say I have not bought many new eurorack modules since then. One exception is Mutable Instruments Beads. I sold my original Mutable Clouds module and replaced it with Beads. This left enough room for Mutable Elements, which was a casualty of my downsizing and was the only module I regretted selling.
I think Mutable modules will get quite valuable now that they are being slowly discontinued
BLACKBOX!!! 1010 is the most underrated eurorack company out there, I swear.
Mimeophon looks absurd. I've been looking for an effects module (this exact size, as it happens) and I think my search may be over.
A lot of interesting features-I’ve owned several eurorack delays and researched all the rest, but once I got my first real tape delay I never looked back. Virtually all the digital stuff except maybe some of the high end racks of yore (which contains lots of analog circuitry), just sound so bland in comparison even though they’re more precise and controllable.
Twin Peaks red room
So you turned a delay into a subharmonicon then into a mutable clouds played like a morphagene into a tasty chips gr1 . I have to watch it again , too much for my brain lol
loopop guess this module was made for you Doc’loopop ;)
jeez!!! :D

enjoying the magic summer blossom zones :) thanks for the video
As usual, great work. Totally off topic, but since I see you are using the ES8, as there aren't any videos out there about it, it will be nice to have some tutarials and walk thru it (even thou yes, it's not as sexy as a fancy VCO or FX module)
Thanks! It's an audio interface, with simple ins and outs so not sure how much of a video I can do about it. Any specific questions? What's interesting about it though is that it's DC coupled in and out. Did you see my Hybrid Modular video? It's the star there.
@@loopop Oh i missed that one indeed. Very informative already. Maybe some ADAT connection and set up inside computer could be informative. As again, nothing to be found on CZcams about it. Thanks ! :)
Beautiful module & review, thank you ! Glad to see reviews like that because most of the time when MN announce them I don't get it exactly. Not as a first delay module I guess, right ? Comparing to a 4MS DLD for example.
Thanks! It can do simple delay as well for sure, but it would be under-using it so if that’s the only thing you need there are cheaper alternatives
@@loopop well, i'm looking for a delay that can be used in a musical. For example the feedback with another pitch. But at the same time, like you said, a normal delay too :-). Could be this one ?
Will the buffer persist through power cycles?
Grazie.
Another great video and demo/explanation. I don’t think this one’s for me. This will take too much time to master; too much multi-functionality for me. I’ll stick with my Intellijel Rainmaker. It’s much more powerful, IMHO, but easier to grasp. It works as synth too, BTW. I love the Morphogene and Qpas though.
I like the idea of stereo modules but wish developers would use stereo jacks. Eurorack with double cables can get to be such a mess.
Yeah this is more an instrument in itself than an effects module. So many choices! Whats not to love?
Gosh, I wish they'd launch a standalone version of this to go with my synth gear.
I agree!
it is standalone.
@@station2station544 I believe he means "non-eurorack" by standalone. But you could put one of these in one of those 4ms pods I'd imagine, if it's not too deep, then you can have a mimeophon "pedal"
@@MrStognabologna OH! Makes sense. Wouldn't be too hard to build a little 16hp skiff :). Might be a fun afternoon.
@@MrStognabologna yeah I tried this... 4ms 20hp was to shallow.. had to grab the doepfer mini case instead. 4ms do make deeper cases but are larger hp.. so you will end up buying more gear. ;) besides, you need gear to make the most of this module as it is!
What a great video! I don't own a modular but watching this makes me excited to get one!
Just one question, does anyone know what's the spectrum analizer loopop uses?
Hi, I use MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer by a company called Melda - they’re free with some limitations in the MFreeFXBundle
5 stars for the Twin Peaks reference
Yeah it would be great to have a button to clear the buffer. 42 seconds is a long time to wait, if your trying to to something live.
The zones segment was truly a mindfuck haha twilight zone
We're going to test this module for science....you monster.
👾 👾 👾 mn always taking things to crazy awesome places
Is there any chance you will do a video with Strymon's Magneto? Super informative as always! thank you :)
Thanks so much! Probably not...
I love my mimeophon. It’s such an incredible module, especially with Erbe Verb and Maths. I’ve been having a blast with my DPO, Optomix, Maths, Mimeophon, Erbe Verb, Chronoblob2, Milky Way and Clouds modules. Cannot wait to use my Morphagene along with this, and the rest of my modules. I’m just noticing, and wondering, is the case used in this video a Moog Mother32/DFAM case? It really looks like it.
I love using it with Plaits and Pamela New Workout for dreamy sequences.
