  • The Mimeophon music synthesizer module is a stereo, multi-zone color audio repeater by Make Noise and soundhack, coded by Tom Erbe.
    The Mimeophon (from Greek mimeo (repeat/copy) and phon (sound)) is a modern take on various historical sound copying, echo and repeating devices. It allows for Stereo modulations of Time, Space and Timbre of Mono or Stereo sound sources. The Mimeophon is capable of modulating and morphing time scales of repeated sound from micro-sound to note to phrase length while also coloring and spatializing the repeats.
    - Full Stereo In and Out
    - Color Coded Modeless Algorithm: morph between Karplus, Flange, Chorus, Echo, Looping and everything in between
    - Rate continuously controls Repeats frequency within Zones
    - Skew lets Rate control Repeats differently for Left and Right channels
    - μRate offers dedicated Doppler Modulation
    - Tempo Sync for Doppler Free modulation of Rate, create complex repeat patterns
    - Control number of Repeats up to and beyond Infinite
    - Halo smears Repeats in stereo space
    - Color focuses feedback energy for timbral shifts over time
    - Rate Out generates Pulses at Skewed Tempos, completing the conversation within the modular system
    - Zones may be Flipped for backward repeats
    - Hold sound for non-destructive modulation of infinite loops
    - Fully Voltage Controlled Time, Space and Color modulation algorithm
    - Reasonable power consumption
    - Pairs well with Morphagene, QPAS, and X-PAN

    First of all, I am so happy the Mimeophon has LIGHTS. The QPAS and XPAN remain dark which is not a good thing in Eurorack especially when you forget to plug them in your bus power and wonder why they don't work. I was wondering what the MP would add to the equation since the Echophon repeats audio quite nicely. But then came FM, quantum mechanics and the inevitable how to turn a gate blip into an excellent organic plucky synth. Big wow. But it gets even better with the tempo synced Morphagene... I once wrote Tom Erbe should design the world's next drum machine. And he did. OMG.

    Loving the stereo. Could Rene utilize x y z for moving sound and fx? Also, love to understand more about the distortion. Is distortion controllable or just an extreme output? Thanks!

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  Před 4 lety +3

      the distortion created here was by engaging Flip in the shortest Zones (particularly Zone 0), where there is not enough delay time for Flip to engage in the way it normally does (as we put it in the manual, it is a minor limitation in the Mimeophon's time travel capabilities). So it is flipping the Repeats at audio rate with no significant filtering. This creates strange harmonic motion especially when coupled with sound sources that are not running at related frequencies, so modulating Rate (especially while Skewed) and Color opens up kind of a timbral playground.

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  Před 4 lety

      Modulating Rate without Tempo-Sync or Flip engaged does cause the pitch to change during Rate changes, yes. Switching Zones is always an instantaneous change, but most Zones have a decent range of possible Rates for you to play with.

    • @NBSStudioMusic
      @NBSStudioMusic Před 4 lety

      @@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC so when synced to delay will not pitch cause pitch change (which make sense in a way), thank you for the answer!

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  Před 4 lety +3

      There's no control called "pitch" because Rate isn't a continuous control when tempo-synced. Also pitch shifting due to changing Rate is always temporary, which is why we call it "doppler" - it's due to the continuous change in Rate while there is sound in it. Once it stops the pitch will stabilize. In other words, it is not like the Pitch control on the Echophon in any way. I hope that makes sense?

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  Před 4 lety +1

      Like any Mix circuit the Mix on Mimeophon is a crossfade between the dry and wet signal. You could try patching the Erbe-Verb as a return effect instead if you don't want to drop the dry volume.
