We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Welcome to Band Maid. The best rock band on the planet (imo of course). They have quite a range to their music and they’ve been around a decade, so there is a lot of it. It sounds like you might prefer their heavier side, I’d recommend the music videos for Shambles, Warning, Rinne, and Dice. All of them are on their CZcams channel. Everyone will say live is always better, they’re mostly right, but for those 4 specifically, you want the music video versions.

Best band this short century. This is just a taste; they have lighter and heavier stuff. No one is close in terms of the sheer variety in rock subgenres. For something not too far off though, let’s go with Domination LIVE (not the MV). It’s an anthemic banger transformed by the live setting.
What a great request for you to be introduced to Band Maid. They have been together for ten years. In the early days, they still had A+ musicianship but the songs were written for them. As the exception Miku, rhythm guitar, could hardly play a note but has been coached by Kanami, the lead guitarist and now is a competant player. As time has gone by the members have grown in confidence. The bass player Misa, would have not gone to the front of the stage as she does here and Saiki, the lead singer, had no where near such a strong voice. In case you missed it, they are either dressed as maids or have a goth take with their outfits. Hence Band MAID.
