    Just what I needed after a day’s work. Thanks Ben. Not sure when I’ll be able to get out there again as we are working weekends to try and catch up.

    I never would have guessed that this is in England or UK, the forest looked so dense and like south america idk. I noticed the same thing in scholagladiatoria videos! ^^ beautiful

    Ben, remember I was asking you for your advice on pinning an axe with a wooden dowel and you said to use a spring pin? I ended up drilling a 3/16 hole and I went ahead and carved a square dowel from a piece of hickory and pinned it with that. I've used the axe a bit and it seems rock solid so far. Thought I'd test it out.

    They both seem to cut well Ben. One round eyed axe arrived thank you very much. Also I see you are monitised. Congratulations. You will be astounded at the amount of money you will make 🙂

      Looking forward to seeing your take on it, I thought it was capable enough for everything except felling. Certainly awkward to use but good enough to get the job done. Its not a huge amount but its steady and will add up, I figured I could save up for an axe every few months if there is a lot of interest in a one. Cheers!

    Yeah the toothy edges are also what they recommend for Machetes since they also "grab" the vegetation and a file was standard issue with the sabre during the napoleonic wars for the same reason. Also someone really needs to restoke that axe forge at the old Brades factory or at least get hold of some dyes xD

      If brades made a comeback with the same quality, they would destroy the competition. Best steel and head design imho

      @@benscottwoodchopper certainly would lol theyre also usually on the cheaper end of vintage axes for some reason at least in my experience. Hopefully be hafting up my old mans Brades Kent pattern 4lber soon as Ive got some Ash.

    I'm finding a lot of Brades and Elwell axe heads for sale in Australia on Ebay. Some in the UK where they were originally made, the Elwell No. 7 was posted at $103 American dollars plus $36 in shipping. I'd like to have one but that's pretty pricey.

      Yeah for ages i wanted a big elwell, but swinging that thing was awful, took it out a few times and tried to find a good use for it but i sold it in the end. I would save your money if I were you

      Didn't you feature an Elwell on the channel a while ago? I have a Husqvarna A2800 splitting axe on the way. It was $99 American dollars. I'm looking forward to trying that out. The only other fiberglass axe I have is the Fiskars X27, I really like Husqvarna. I have the older 340, 350 chainsaws, push mower, snowblower, leaf blower and air muffs. All are great products.

      @benscottwoodchopper  Před 4 lety +1

      yeah in that video I shown how the head speed of a 2.5lb axe outcuts the big heavy elwell. I was thinking about getting the S2800, since how well the A2400 has performed

      So Rinaldi for chopping and what you think of a fiskars n7 or x7 as a small all-round cutting/splitting and carving hatchet?

    • @benscottwoodchopper
      @benscottwoodchopper  Před 4 lety +1

      Personally my favourite hatchet is any old rhineland pattern. As for fiskars, they are okay but your timing to ask about them is impeccable instagram.com/p/B_7ovakj3dO/

    Very enjoyable video to watch with the birds in the background and green leaves,. Winter here in New York is finally over! You're in Scotland, right? Watching, it almost seems like you would benefit from another 2 or 3 inches. You're relatively tall, over 6' I assume? Obviously the handle length works for you, just an opinion. Keep up the good work and have fun.

    • @benscottwoodchopper
      @benscottwoodchopper  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! was one of the few, sunny and clear days here in Scotland. I am 6'4, like handles between 60 and 80cm, but 70cm is the best. This is 68cm, so right in the ballpark. I just find this length the easiest to handle and most versatile for the majority of the work I do, if I am standing on logs a bit longer is better though

  • @neil2439
    @neil2439 Před 4 lety +1

    Thinking of buying a tuatahi workaxe is the handles on them longer or same as the training axe

    • @benscottwoodchopper

      I swapped the handle that came with my ochsenkopf racing axe and put a tuatahi handle on it. I used the leftover ochsenkopf handle for this axe

    I thought you didn't like boy's axe size axes as it took too much head speed to use them effectively.

    • @benscottwoodchopper
      @benscottwoodchopper  Před 4 lety

      Most modern biys axes are 2lb or under, small bitted. These are 2.5lb with 4" bits
