When I watch dean with bing or frank I can't help but think that dean didn't get an Oscar. Rio bravo, some came running, the young lions...give the man a nomination at least.
Oscars are bought by the production companies. They are worthless. I had a friend who was a writer/producer in the '70's until his death several years ago. I was at his home in Malibu at one time where he prominently displayed the Styrofoam packing for an Oscar on his mantel. It was just to show how empty those awards are.

Seeing Bing with Hope and Dean with Lewis makes it seem odd - wonder how a show would have gone had Dean and Jerry not had a feud and the 4 of them got together for a performance. Would have no doubt been a classic.
It’s interesting that these two laid back, loose guys worked beautifully with two of the most controlling guys in the business: Lewis and Hope! It is said of Hope that his writers wrote his morning bathroom routine and he never deviated! And Lewis was a monster control freak.
This was a time when entertainers had to actually have talent. Both of these guys started with nothing and worked for decades before attaining stardom. Frank and Jerry were the same.
Two of the greatest vocal stylists of their age or any age. I was lucky to grow up watching them. I hope you were as well.

Dean was good, but Bing was so smooth and laid back, with immaculate timing. Bing could swing! He was a really hypnotic performer.
All class! Bing was the biggest selling artist of all time for decades. Only eclipsed by Elvis later on.
