  • Last year I uploaded the build video for my twelve-volt electric chainsaw. At the end, I said I'd get a test video up soon.
Then it got cold out and I couldn't be arsed.
Then it got warm again, and my mom wanted a clump of dead trees to go away, so I decided to put this redneck agglomeration to the test.
If you want to see what went into making this thing, check out the build video: • A 12v Chainsaw that Ac...
As always, if you decide to try any of this stuff yourself, know the risks and take precautions so you don't get yourself nicknamed Stumpy. And if you find yourself facing down a belligerent Douglas Fir in a truck stop bathroom, remember, do not joke about forestry practices, that gets their sap up like none other.

I'm really glad I watched your two 12v chainsaw videos. I am in need of one, and I wish they were more popular. It makes sense that you used a winch motor. I am driving a garden tractor into the woods, and was hoping to fell trees using its 12v system. I'm not sure if my idea will work. But your videos are informative and funny :)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them. I do sometimes use this saw with my 3813 for pretty much exactly what you're talking about, but when I do, I bring along an old car battery or deep-cycle in the trailer and run the saw from that instead. I don't know how many amps the charging system on that rig is good for, but I suspect it was designed to run the headlights and not much else.
