  • John Deere Mower Deck Removal doesn't have to be hard or take a lot of time. I have an X540 but X500s and X300s should be nearly identical, and most John Deere decks are similar. I run through the process and offer some tips and tricks to get the job done fast. It's easier than you think and I'll show you exactly what I do to remove mine. I have a whole playlist of John Deere maintenance videos so check out the links if you want to see more!

      I use a fifth wheel pin rod to pull the rear pins. Can do it with being on my knees. Have to do it on your knees to put it back on. Thing I like is only have to get down to the pin level once.

    I just purchased my first tractor ever. A GT225. I need to put mulching blades on so will absolutely try your method. That makes alot more sense than having to jack the mower up etc!

    I have an X360. with 48" mower. The only way yo get the mowere on an off is to turn the front wheel all the way one direction. That makes the opening under the tracker a couple of inches wider. Even then I have to go in/out at an angle to get around the wheels. The wheel base on the X360 is a little smaller.
    Nate.

    Good stuff !! One minor tip I'd like to share is that if you remove the front loop (front deck support) right after removing the primary deck belt, it will make unhooking those rear lift arms a bit easier ! Give it a try 🙂👨‍🔧

      It can be easier to disconnect the arms if you disconnect the front loop hanger first. Either way, it’s not terribly easy to do. Jostling, rocking, bouncing, etc, do what you have to do to ease up the tension on what you’re trying to disconnect. Come back tomorrow and let me know how it went, you got this.

    How do I get the deck back on? JD is a crazy machine in everything, belts to deck nutz. Now I can't get the darn deck back on. It's like the deck is trying to push through the front tires, it's crazy again. Help...

    This was an excellent video. Perfectly explained and demonstrated visually. Thank you. When I reconnected the deck, it doesn't seem properly aligned like before. When I lift it, there is something odd in the front. Maybe I need to realign and level the deck. Should it change that much after removing the deck? Any feedback is appreciated.

    • @suburbanacreage
      @suburbanacreage  Před rokem

      In theory it shouldn’t change, but I always check it and usually end up making adjustments. After you get the deck back on, I might take a lap around the yard to make sure everything has bounced and settled into the right position, maybe run the deck up and down a few times, that kinda thing. Then check it and make your adjustments. I have a video for a quick method to check and level your deck if you’re interested:

      @@suburbanacreage It is attached, and that's why I am a bit concerned. I think the front isn't perfectly in position although it is in place. Hard to explain, but it is clear as soon as I raise the deck. It isn't one smooth lifting process.

    I’m notseeing the tension rod.

    • @suburbanacreage
      @suburbanacreage  Před rokem

      Should be very similar if not exactly the same.

    • @rednhrailroad
      @rednhrailroad Před rokem

      It is similar. I bought this X380 w/54” deck new in Aug.’22. I do not see a tensioner rod (should have taken a picture) but I took the pressure off the front pulley to remove belt and did everything you said. I HAD to remove the front loop completely.
      The reason I was removing the deck: I sucked in a length of 3/8” steel cable which wrapped around two blades.
      Cable removed. All reassembled. A few NH raindrops! Hopefully I’ll roadtest: get a “GO” and can finish mowing if the grass stays dry.
      Thank you for your guidance.

    • @suburbanacreage
      @suburbanacreage  Před rokem +1

      Good problem solving skills Fred, glad it didn’t wreck your spindles. Hopefully you got it shut down quick enough after sucking up the cable.

    • @JS-fe8sx
      @JS-fe8sx Před 8 měsíci

      On the 380 (non power deck) there is a “bolt” that must be turned with a socket wrench. While rotating it and holding it in the turned position the tension is taken off and the belt can be slipped off of the drive spindle.
