Examining the Walther Q4SF Steel Frame: Is It Practical For Conceal Carry?!!

  • Steel frame guns bring a lot to the table that polymer/plastic guns just can't compete with. The price for that performance is weight. Is it worth it. Watch for the diagnosis...

    I have one and its a great gun. Shooting from a barricade rest position at 25 yards, easily puts all the rounds well within the face of a standard silhouette target. For carry, the weight can be managed with the right type of holster. However, shooting this defense style posed some issues you might want to, at least be aware of. The sights as noted here, are black on black, and that makes fast target aquisition harder than it needs to be. The first shot, has a lot of free trigger take up, sure practice can help get used to this, so how much do you normally practice? And the weight, it helps staying on one target, however I found it a draw back when switching from one target to another quickly. The gun carries a lot of momentum, and with the short barrel, it's like pointing a brick. And before you say I dont know how to shoot, that is not true. I am pointing out things that a buyer may want to be aware of before spending a ton of money.

      Fortunately, since I have an optic mounted on this gun, it negates the concerns of the blacked out sights for me. As for the 1st shot, I am currently carrying (about 50% of the time) a CZ Shadow 2 Compact, in the DA/SA configuration...because I prefer a heavier more deliberate trigger pull on my 1st shot. As for the weight of the gun...she is a hefty girl...which as you pointed out, comes with pros and cons. I have not noticed any decrease in my target transition and/or acquisition with it, but you've definitely got me curious and I will be on the lookout for it on the next range trip I bring it on. I really appreciate your input. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

    Great review! I carry that as well. LOVE IT. And for the record... it pissed me off too about the rear sight not being on their supplied plate... so I bought one from C+H Precision. Haha. (Can't go wrong with those guys.) And bonus... the C+H plate sits lower than the Walther plate.. so I'm very happy. EDC of choice. This thing shoots nearly thru the same hole every time. My Mont Blanc is jealous. =)

    I love mine, I wears a trijicon 3.25 adjustable. Shoots like a champ and recoil is nearly felt. Great point, need a good holster and belt. I have the core essential belt and it settles in a Rex holster, AIWB. IM 70” 170 pounds, no printing.

    The Q4SF is in my carry rotation. Run it w a Holosun 509T and a TLR7A. Whenever possible I will carry this gun bc it is my favorite gun to shoot (and I’ve got some good ones). Do I carry it during the summer? Not usually. But the rest of the year? More often than not. It’s totally doable w the right holster and belt. Love it and can’t recommend it enough. I’m looking at getting a second one and putting Walther’s Performance trigger in it. What holster are you using here?

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  Před 2 lety +3

      I'm using a DARA AIWB holster in the video, but I think I'm too fat for it, as it rides high and tends to print. I usually carry it in a low riding leather holster (it doesn't have any labeling on it and I can't remember who makes it, but I'll look into it), which puts the grip just above the belt (Kore Essentials) and conceals beautifully and comfortably. I have been carrying mine non-stop since I got it and I love it. Carrying a gun of this quality is really enjoyable...it must be what my wife feels like wearing fine jewelry!!

    The concern about the plates is unfounded and blatantly false this is the problem with youtube thr guy who started this and has a unbelievable amount of views some how got plates before the gun is out and is reviewing them i have a 507c on my walther pdp 5 inch and another holson on my walth pdp fullsize. 6k rounds with the full and i just passed 5k on my compact at the class i went to. I have been beating these pistols hard in the defensive classes and can confidently say there isnt a issue. The only rraso walther recently changed it was perception. I am since im relatively new to walther interested in a q4 and q5 i would love a more in dept insight of it

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  Před 2 lety +3

      My issue with the plate that Walther supplies is that you lose your rear iron sights. This is a legitimate issue if you are carrying this gun for self defense, use it for home defense, or compete. Stuff happens and why wouldn't you want a back up? C&H does manufacture a plate for the Q4SF with back up iron sights that co-wittness, but it ain't cheap. Walther used to include rear sights as part of the plate, but they have notified me that they have discontinued those plates.

    This was a pretty nice review, but I'm super disappointed at how little I got to actually put eyes on that gun. Most of us who have guns and watch gun channels to look at guns are interested in the gun and not the person so much.
    And I'll watch you for a whole video If you do me the courtesy of showing me the gun you are reviewing in a meaningful way.
    And of course the response is something along the lines of I can see pictures of this gun anywhere. But I chose this channel, and it didn't provide me what I wanted. So do with that information what you wish. I wish you well and offer it strictly as constructive criticism. Although I won't be watching this channel any more, I bet future people will be more interested if you actually show them close-ups the gun they're interested in, allowing your channel to grow even faster.
    As an example, informationally this review is far better than the Soochs00 channel provides . . . . But what he provides that you do not provide is gun porn: a clumsy metaphor for showing extreme, meaningful close-ups of the gun and their operation.
    The information is useful, of course. And I presume most people watching this channel are seeking that. But the gun you are reviewing a still visually King. You cannot forget that part, brother, and grow a gun channel.
    Cheers

      Thank you for your heartfelt and honest criticism. I just did a second video on a product (The Headrest Safe), that I had been very negative on in the first video review. They had taken my criticisms to heart and made some major changes and as a result improved their product and their sales and I was more than happy to do a new and very positive review of their product.
      I am sure that company was not very happy with me initially, but they have since told me that my review was one of the best things that could’ve happened to them as the changes I recommended improved their sales tremendously. So, even though it’s hard to hear criticism, I know that if it is sincere and coming from the right place, it can be invaluable. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me and I see the value in your recommendations. I am sorry if I lost you as a viewer, just know that your words will hopefully make this a better channel.

      @@DrTac thank you for your response. Lost you as a viewer in a sense that I typically don't hit subscribe if someone leaves me feeling wanting. In that case if the algorithm throws a channel my way again, I'm likely to see it again as I'm interested in gun content.
      I actually think that the name of your channel, and wearing a doctor's robe, is an incredibly genius marketing ploy.
      And I honestly think you should run with it. You should have an "initial consultation" with a gun, or a "medical examination" that follows a specific procedure, especially if it comes to disassembly, or modifications, or repairs.
      Using a good examination table, light, magnification, whatever your mind can think up.
      Consider using your doctor's medical checklist to cover the key points of the gun. Give it a "health assessment" at the end, a recommended course of action. ("For this Glock 19 I prescribe a new trigger assembly, some iron sights, and X, Y, Z optic system to get to full health.")
      If it's a gun that is suspect for any reason, or that has a bad reputation, give it a "proctological" examination. Be thorough. Have genuine fun with your channel.
      Being unique, and distinguishable, with an instantly-recognizable format that people can rely on will get you pretty far.
      End with: "This channel is not endorsed by the American Medical Association", with a wink.
      Cheers
