    If you want to learn the difference between a polymer and a steel frame guns - just rattle them from side to side. I own a Q4 SF and purchased a PDP-F 4” for my beloved wifie (she has issues with racking of a standard springed slide). And yes - there IS a difference :)

    I have been carrying, shooting and competed with, both Revolvers and Semi-auto pistols, for 49 years. I can still effectively use iron sights as I have when I started at 22 years old. The key is to get the right glasses which focus on the front sight, (intermediate distance). I still have 20/20 at distance but its the reading distance where the glasses come in play.
    The reason I mention this is, I have a steady grip/hold, and with the proper glasses I still can shoot any pistol from 25 yards, slow fire, standing unsupported and put a 5 round group 2" or less into a Bullseye target.
    I don't think I will ever need to change, to an optic ready setup. The advantage of iron sights is, they are easier, and more compact for concealed carry, and more reliable then an optic.
    By the way I did shoot a 1.75" 5 shot group (slow fire) with my stock Iron sight Q4 from 25 yards, standing unsupported.
    Great video. Please do more on the Q4!

      That is better than I can do. I generally shoot at more realistic self defense distances. If I can mag dump a fist sized group at 7 yards, I am very happy. I too prefer irons.

    I own both of those pistols as well. I love the Q4...it is an exceptionally well made firearm but it's a heavy mother. It's also a bit chunky compared to say a 1911. I would never really consider it for a ccw. Also wish the serrations were a bit more aggressive but it's a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things.

      I will be getting a PDP compact next week (5 inch). I got a heck of a deal on a barely used Q4 SF a few months back. I became a fan of Walthers immediately. I have owned a lot of handguns in my time and it is much nicer in my personal opinion than anything I have owned prior. I have thusly begun collecting Walthers and bought a PPQ M2 and a PPS M2. Neither guns dissappoint. And I am very picky. Buying the PDP mainly as a reason to get into dots on handguns. Also buying a P99 just because. Wife is cutting me off for a while though and said she will buy me a fancy Walther if I can stop buying guns for a year lol.

    The Q4SF is my favorite handgun. Bar none. And I’ve got some good ones. It’s my home defense gun and also my carry gun for several months a year. I’ve toyed with getting a PDP compact so i could have something w similar controls etc but which is lighter and easier to carry during warmer weather. But I’ve got so many polymer striker fired guns that it’s hard to get excited about another one. Toying w getting something single action only instead-or replacing a Steyr handgun that I’ve always regretted offloading some years back.

      Been there, might I recommend the Staccato C2😉…I know, I know, not exactly smaller, but it is lighter, and G-d that trigger is sweet for a carry gun. The S&W CSX is nice too (see my earlier video), but damn, that C2 is a fun gun to own.

I always love taking it to the range and sometimes have to force myself to bring what I EDC the rest of the year. It's my permanent home defense gun, outfitted w a TLR7A and 509T and in a TRex holster. Can't recommend it highly enough.

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  Před 2 lety +4

      I find, at the end of the day, the Q4SF is the better gun; higher quality and better shooter. I definitely feel that the build quality justifies the price. That said, it depends on your plans for use. As a range gun, competition gun, or home defense gun, Q4SF all day long, but as a carry gun, there are very few holsters designed for the Q4SF and that is a gun that begs for a quality holster (and belt), due to its considerable weight….and just to further complicate your decision making, I find the PDP’s trigger to be the better of the two, albeit marginally, but still noticeably.
      I hope this helps with your decision making. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate the kind words and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!!

    I had gotten a 4" PPQ a while ago. Liked it, and when Walther went to the PDP, I was put off by the blockiness of it compared to the Q's profile. At that time I tried very hard to find a standard 5" Q, but the closest I could come was a 5" Q Match. It had some issues, was rather expensive, ($1k) and I didn't like the sights. Eventually I got a 5" PDP ($650) and then added a Swampfox optic. It's lighter and more balanced than my 4" Q with an Olight/laser, and appears to be a bit more robust inside. Now if Orpaz (or anyone) would just make a retention holster for it!

    It looks like you got the C&H plate with the rear sight behind the optics and I see that they offer one with the sight in front. Why choose the "behind option"? I understand sight radius but this is a backup. I think I'm going to opt for the sight mounted in front to act as protection from flying brass.

      This is an Impact Machine plate and 3 things helped me to decide on this particular model:
      3) Impact Machine makes great optic plates
      2) As you mentioned in your comment, an increased sight radius improves accuracy
      1) It was THE ONLY FUCKING PLATE AVAILABLE for this combination…seriously, I mean there was no other plate to be had and I was damn lucky to get this one!!

    When you shoot the PDP with the Dynamic trigger, 12 pound recoil spring (after market), and your new Holosun 507c ACSS your going to retire your Q4. In this configuration my PDP full size shoots flat as my GLOCK even though the Glock has a lower bore height. Walther rules the market with their out of the box triggers and now the superb dynamic trigger that pulls on average a hair over 4 pounds... Walther now has the PRO SERIES with the dynamic trigger, competition barrel, and mag flare for around $820.00. I wish I waited for PRO but I love the PDP...

      I’m actually getting ready to do a video on the Dynamic Trigger very very soon. I am borrowing a friend’s Q5 SF with the Dynamic Trigger. The only thing stopping me from getting the PDP Pro Series is that for me, it’s primary use will be that of a conceal carry gun, so even though I want the trigger, I do not want the mag well or the threaded barrel.

      Pete: so in that config, does it shoot flatter than a Q4 SF? Meaning, do you think you'd gain anything from the steel frame?

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  Před rokem +1

      @@zorbaseatery4745 The PDP definitely does NOT shoot as flat as the Q4 SF, however, it is very balanced and does come back down straight and consistent, putting the sights right back on target. I have brass grips on one of my competition pistols and, while they feel really nice, the rearward placement of the weight does not do nearly as much to mitigate muzzle flip as a steel frame. Although I have never tried one, a tungsten guide rod should be helpful, as the weight is being placed in a more appropriately location.
