There are no blackouts when you live in Sweden. The fact that 90% of the games are played in the middle of the night is less than optimal tho. Also, now I know that I must have been dropped on my head as a child. Explains a lot.
Can we address the fact that baseball is desperately trying to get new younger fans into the sport yet at he same time actively blocks their fans from actually watching the games they might be interested in? Their logic: If we black out local games, fan will keep their cable packages to watch. Reality: Huh, can't watch that local team play, welp open up Netflix and lets binge a season of something.
@@idkdude111 They're perpetually not good, but also not the worst. It's so weird. They've very rarely been in last place since the 80s. 2nd to last? plenty of times, just not last that much.
As absolutely ludicrous as this sounds idea sounds, it might actually make sense to a degree. I'm a Braves fan in Atlanta with Comcast cable. It's super expensive and it comes with many shows I don't care to watch (including 90 Day Fiancee). The funny thing is that I had a girlfriend live with me once and she used to turn off my Braves games every single night to watch 90 Day Fiancee and a bunch of shows just like it. All the Real Housewives shows, Sister Wife, 600lb life, Below Deck, all the Love and Hip-Hop shows, all the Reality marriage Boot Camp Shows, etc., etc., etc. It was ridiculous. There are like 10 different versions of every single one of those shows and several of them come on tv every single night of the year. Some of those shows are over 2 hours long each episode. None of the shows come on until 8:00 pm and my Braves games don't start until after 7:00. So every night I would be about to start the 2nd inning of my Braves game and instead the tv would get switched to 90 Day Fiancee and would stay on shows like that until after 2:00 in the morning. Over 6 hours of reality tv every single night during primetime. Sometimes it would be 8 hours and I couldn't start my Braves games until 4 am if I was lucky enough to ever be awake by then. The saddest part about it was that at the time I was making my money by writing small articles about the Braves, which she knew. She didn't care. She was sooo addicted to her 6+ hours of reality tv and channels like Bravo that I couldn't even do my job because I only had 1 DVR. The Comcast DVR's could only record 2 shows at a time and from 8pm-2am she was recording multiple reality shows every night. So I figured I might as well pay the $129.99 for MLB tv. I was going to make way more money from writing about the games then $130 a year so what the heck. Of course the Braves games were blacked out and it didn't help. This episode made me realize that if I couldn't watch the Braves because I lived somewhere else, Bailey's proposal would at least be better than nothing. If the Braves were playing against another team I would still watch the game with the other teams players blacked out. I mean it's better than nothing, right? I can tell you first hand it would beat the heck out of spending years watching nothing but shows like 90 Day Fiancee every single night. Sorry if that was too long for anyone but Bailey specifically bringing up Atlanta Braves games vs 90 Day Fiancee was just too much of a parallel to my life to not mention it. I would get it if it happened every once in awhile but every single night for years seems excessive and pretty inconsiderate. Has anyone else gone through anything like this? Can anyone else feel my pain?

I moved to and now live in what I've refered to as the "Goldilocks Zone" of New Jersey, Within a 20 or so mile radius is a spot where cable offers the following teams: Orioles, Nationals, Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Red Sox. Yep. I don't get ANY of these teams. Just 2 years ago only the Phillies were blacked out of me, but now it feels like I pay $140 for half the games and it SUCKS since you need a premium cable package to even get the Nats, Orioles and Red Sox where I live that costs upwards of $35/month EXTRA on top of the $80/month the comcast pacakge to get YES and SNY and NBC sports Philidelphia to watch the other teams.
My friends and I went to a San Diego Padres game. I tried tuning into the Anaheim Angels game 100~ miles north. Mlb.tv told me I was within the Angels market.
The real problem is that there are a few teams I have zero access to at all. I live in North Carolina and I’m blacked out from the Orioles and Nationals, neither of which are available on cable in my area. Literally the only way I could watch those two teams is an illegal website or vpn. No legitimate method even if I’m willing to spend money

Yeah ain't that a bitch? We fund these stupid teams then they black us out!? Well they ain't getting another dime from me, I hope MLB viewership keeps declining, they want the sport to die.
I've never been affected by blackout rules as none of the local teams are my favorites. (Well, not really... I do enjoy watching the A's even if they're not my team.) As such, I can' say I totally understand how the whole thing works. But I hear complaints from my friends who are Giants, Kings, Warriors, 49ers, etc. fans. Out of curiosity, does a VPN solve the problem? For example, if you connect in a way that appears you're in (say) Toronto, would the blackout be lifted? Or does it still recognize you as a subscriber when you log in? ("Don't fool us, Bailey, you may be watching from a hotel in Thailand but we still know you're a Braves man.")
Random unrelated question. Which VPN is the best for the lowest cost for say a relatively advanced streaming service with regional blackouts. Just hypothetically nothing to do with this video at all
I have a subscription and I live in Nebraska so I should get every game except for the royals here and there, but when I go to watch my cardinals play on the app it locates me and tells me I can’t watch if I’m on LTE. But it works when I’m on wifi. It’s really stupid
NHL is the same way. These channels pay MLB a lot of money for the rights to broadcast games. If people can just pay MLB directly to watch games, then networks won’t pay MLB to broadcast games. I’m sure MLB makes way more money from networks than individual MLB TV subs.
Genius take, as always. Is anyone else also annoyed how all baseball cameramen are obsessed with close-ups? I'd like for once to see a play in the field or on the bases in real time without multiple jump-cut close-ups pieced together. Show the game more like you see it at the ballpark.
Funny to me that if I try to watch the A’s on MLB tv it’s blacked out because I’m in the market BUT I CAN stream the game on AT&T tv or the NBC sports app. So MLBtv is a no if I’m in market, but the other two apps are okay so long as I’m in the market. Gets weird when I visit Reno though. Sometimes it counts as in the market sometimes it doesn’t. Idk man these blackout rules are stupid.
When I lived in Cambodia, for some reason MLB.TV worked better then ever, also no games were blacked out, AND instead of commercials it was nothing but MLB highlights between innings AND unlike in the US where sometimes they update the scores in the box score before the play even happens (even with spoilers off), that didn't happen there. Interesting... also damn mlb.tv is expensive
Another genius video from the best channel in baseball. Question here: Could you use a VPN service and stream as if you were in a different market and then use MLB.TV to watch your team?
you could always use a google chrome extension to get around it. sorta like a search engine vpn. I use an extension called betternet and it works great
What they need is a streaming service...not a package that comes from Hulu etc...where you can pick your favorite teams from any sport and pay a monthly subscription for it...I would love to be able to watch my team no matter where I go and not be bound to territories where I couldn't care less about a team that's not a divisional rival

I have a subscription and I live in Nebraska so I should get every game except for the royals here and there, but when I go to watch my cardinals play on the app it locates me and tells me I can’t watch if I’m on LTE. But it works when I’m on wifi. It’s really stupid
I didn’t know what blackouts really were before this. Insanely dumb that MLB makes fans pay a premium to watch.
NHL is the same way. These channels pay MLB a lot of money for the rights to broadcast games. If people can just pay MLB directly to watch games, then networks won’t pay MLB to broadcast games. I’m sure MLB makes way more money from networks than individual MLB TV subs.
Nick NHL is weird with Comcast, as I live in Iowa so I get the Chicago feed, but also San Jose and Philly.
This is a kick-ass idea !
Genius take, as always. Is anyone else also annoyed how all baseball cameramen are obsessed with close-ups? I'd like for once to see a play in the field or on the bases in real time without multiple jump-cut close-ups pieced together. Show the game more like you see it at the ballpark.
The funniest part of this video is the pirates getting all those hits
Bailey, you are Foolishly awesome!
This video is actually gold!
And another thing why am I being forced to watch ads on a service I pay 100 dollars a year for??
Does the vpn trick work? What about for sports gambling (if you’re in a state that doesn’t allow it)?
For real though, what VPN does everyone use? Can't find any that work other than the one I use on my work computer.
I use an extension called betternet and it works great
cannot wait for bobby manfred to introduce raytheon advertising off the back of this very informative online video content
Can we fire Manfred and hire Bailey as commissioner?... Then get Jomboy in to start a special committee looking into Angel Hernandez.
YES WE NEED THIS
i love this channel
This is ingenious
What they need is a streaming service...not a package that comes from Hulu etc...where you can pick your favorite teams from any sport and pay a monthly subscription for it...I would love to be able to watch my team no matter where I go and not be bound to territories where I couldn't care less about a team that's not a divisional rival
Me who just illegally streams all the games: 🗿
We don't get blackouts in the UK but it sucks for everyone else
I’m in the same situation, Braves fan living in Atlanta, your solution is big brained though, I agree about the bars.
I’d pay money for Raytheon ads in the middle of a ballgame
Basically calling out 90% of CZcams baseball channels with that Mets diss. I dig it
it’s almost like they don’t want to believe illegal streaming websites exist
