Lyrics:
*****
In cycle,
I leave you around the ocean,
Where grass grows,
And remnants of you is emotion,
My breath's out,
Inhaling upon trees frozen,
We look out
And chase around our house with the chosen,
And holding,
Quietly,
The sound is dead,
Sing and turn,
In light,
And life meets child your only plight
is light,
And silly smiles, you'll sleep a while
in light,
I'll take you for walks in the ocean,
She had a pretty dad,
But she was growing out of play-school,
So she could kick and scream and play,
Until she wanted to,
My little chocolate girl,
Her brother barely out of high school,
There was a place where he could sleep,
Until he wanted to,
Our frozen, tiny cow,
And she could bury him in apples,
And curl around a bowl of cotton until she wanted to
Until she wanted to,
Still she had to speak loud,
Because hearing is an iron offense,
And quietly
Still drinking with the bones and the dead,
And play small,
In hopes of something better to show her,
The sound is dead,
It's singing time,
In light,
When light meets child
You're sleeping wild in light,
I'll take you for walks on the ocean,
She met a pretty boy,
And they would dance between their elders,
Where she would cream until the wine she bought had settled in,
My little chocolate girl,
She used to love the stars of England,
She sold them records in her home by the jury from her school,
Her colors matched the room,
And she would swirl around the curtains,
She had a hand to hold her chin up,
When her friends walked out,
The kid across the street,
He'll keep around when she was changing,
And he would wait until she told her friends about the boy,
Her Mom and Dad at home,
She has saliva in her pockets,
She gave a girl when her last graves have finally digged the day
So did the chocolate girl,
Put your lanterns all across the maze,
So I won't feast on fallen,
Bitter rain who brought the stings and dead,
And who will part the train,
Cause I can't see you,
I'll open up my brain again,
Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished is the greatest things in the world on one disc.
Learn 2 Ween oh my god I watch your videos all the time! it’s crazy seeing you here
When the moods right, it hits
i absolutely fucking love this song im addicted to this and brother sport. they sound so good live too i cant wait to see them!
hope it went well :)
I like how sleepy this is compared to it's original.
i discovered animal collective today and this is the goat song ive heard(so far)
sorry if i have a bad english im learning
This is indeed the best fuckin song in the world
Its impossible for them to replicate their own songs live. The loops go in. The sample goes out. Avey lays down the guitar. The pace without drums slows down. Avey improvs. Sounds amazing.
Their music makes me feel like I am not on this Earth.
If they did a reworked Alvin Row, my head would probably explode.
well.........
hope you're okay bro
In cycle
I'll lead you around the ocean
Where grass grows
And remnants of you in devotion
My breath's out
Inhaling a portrait, it's frozen
And look out
And trace along the house where shit is frozen
Then holding
Quietly
The sound is dead
And sing in turn
In light
When life meets child, your only plight
In light
When ceilings smile, we'll sleep a while
In light
I'll take you for walks among the patients
She had a pretty dad
But she was growing out of play-school
Still she could kick and scream and play
Until she wanted to
My little chocolate girl
Her brother barely out of high school
Lived in a place where he could scream
Until he wanted to
Oh fuzzy tabby cat
And she could bury him in apples
And curl around a bowl of cotton
'til she wanted to
Still she had to speak loud
'cause hearing isn't “I am here with them”
And we took
A picture: Sunday flowers in the garden
And quite late
Still drinking with the boys until it's later
And pray small
Your hopes of something better to show her
And holding tight
The sound is dead
It's singing time
In light
When life meets child, your only plight
In light
When ceilings smile, we'll sleep a while
In light
I'll take you for walks among the patients
She met a pretty boy
And they would dance between their elders
And she would cream until the wine she bought had settled in
My little chocolate girl
She used to love the stars of England
She slept on records and her market jewelry
From her school
Her colors matched the room
And she would twirl around the curtains
She had a hand to hold her chin up
When her friends walked out
The kid across the street
He'll keep around when she was changing
And he would wait and she would tell her friends about the boy
Her mom and dad at home
She had saliva in her pockets
She gave a girl when her last grace hath found thee, dig the day
So good, my chocolate girl
Oh won't you like an 'A'
So put your lanterns on across the maze
So I won't feast on folly
Bell of the rain who brought the stings and dead
And who will pop the trade
'cause I can't see you
I'll open up my brain again
This song liquifies my skin. Makes me feel infinite. Like a fairy.
this is great but how can you not miss the drums on this track
I agree, man…those drums going nuts on the recorded version throw it over the edge
goddamn!! I freaking loved them at Coachella!!! I was rolling so hard!!
maybe its just me but sometimes i dont catch how beautifully detailed these songs are, even live. it might be that this videos quality is better, but i really hear it when i focus on the overall texture as a feeling, meditate on it. so much alive and celebrating in the sound.
i was 3 when this happened
Vibe
my lil' chocolate girl
this is kinda like with reggae where there's a riddim version of a song and a sleepy version
the chorus is so beautiful.
these guys are great to do something creative or productive like the dishes or drawing to. I forgot about these guys. CHecked their cd out at the library once.
Damn, Panda still has that shirt.
Gilbertify i know right lol
i've seen him wear the same shirt that he had in the feels era at a concert this year.
That's awesome
amazing song.
The original version on spirit they're gone is just as amazing, if not even more so.
fucking beautiful, before I die I will see them.
haha yeah. i smoked a blunt in the crowd with a friend when i saw them in philly. it was awesome. best show of my life.
Yes. Spirit They're gone is fucking awesome. Alvin Row, La Rapet, Bat You'll Fly, April and the phantom.
Holy shit amazing songs.
gorgeous
this version is unreal! I love how slowed down it is + lasers
that is beautiful
Beautiful
that is what i have always been intrested to hear in all music, i was thinking that to
cant decide if i like this version or the studio version more
This song is so haunting. It's amazing.
Jeez, looks like Geologist and Avey haven't aged at all
i think it was just for choclate girl, some of the songs need a sturdy one hit thing, but who doesnt love the best drummer who has ever existed, i always imagined, how do i do percusion in an illusion of no tempo, but beutifully structured?
i always knew but panda bear is obviously the best
BEAUTIFUL!
*I like this*
hahah yeah. it was so awesome. I was freaking out.
they didnt even do the best part at the end!
:(
shit, strawberry jam and water curses are SO gooooood.
flesh canoe, fireworks, purple bottle are my favorite tracks
I use to HATE Bees. If there was one song I were to choose to hate on my AC it would of been been Bees.
Tried Acid and was listening to Animal Collective on shuffle, it popped up, and now I LOVE that song.
I'm not saying acid is the reason the song clicked, it just happened to be a time where I was in an open state of mind. Can still have an open mind without acid.
MAGIC
im going to cry
I really love Spirit, probably my favorite album by them
@thejoekster Animal Collective is beautiful and just because you like the sounds of pure beauty doesn't mean you're a hipster.
Best video on the internet? I think so.
@psychedelicSAUCE He is back in the band now, he went on a break. Now they have Avey on guitar and keyboard, Deakin on guitar, keyboard and sampler, Geologist on his stuff and Panda on drums.
COOL VERSION but WHERE's Panda's DRUMMING???
Very good vid of them live.
And yes the dude in the beginning has a hat like Avey lol
the song always saves me
I love how 'pink floyd' this version sounds. very reserved and subdued.
We need a HD remastre/upscale of this.
its funny when I play their more accesible stuff like Feels or Strawberry Jam at work. Everyone gives me weird faces. Then I tell them this isn't even their weird stuff!
Dude just accept it. No bad can come out of it.
Sucks that you cant enjoy this.
These sounds have changed me.
Ha, i smoked a blunt in that ^ crowd. Great show, made even better by the fact that i was blaaaaaazed.
3:02 OH MY GOD I LOVE AVEY SO MUCH I CAN'T EVEN OH MY I JUST DEAR GOD
Mi pequeña chica de chocolate !!!!!!!!!!! Zarpada versión flotadora, con el beat más lento. #)
i would gfucking crY IF I GOT TO SEE THIS
@NEDM404 shoot, i listen to animal collective WITHOUT trippin and i still love them
Fantástico !! 🛸🇲🇽🤙
A-FUCKING-MAZING.
Beaut. And I might have to agree, spirit might be my favorite.
I can't believe they don't play the best part of this song :(
I'm sorry but this is a cover band of Animal Collective (I know its not) but I refused for years to see them live because I was so mesmerized by their studio recordings..
I enjoy this version and its mellow(er) contrast with the original version, but the original version is too goddamned amazing to deny. Panda's percussion in particular is part of what makes the song, and it is absent here.
i love at 1:41 u can just see so many ppl tokin un front
i like the studio version better, but props for not just going through the motions
I've been to a couple AC concerts and I didn't see too many hipsters (A word that a lot of people seem to have very different definitions for), actually there was quite the assortment of different types. AC dresses kinda 90's-ish and their music is pretty unique. But I guess I should just except my hipster musical taste... *rolls eyes*
they aren't being "lazy", I've heard them play this song closer to how it's done in the studio.
Sometimes they just like to mix it up, you have to realize they play the same songs over and over for months in a row. They don't even like touring all that much.
I prefer them live than in the studio. The NPR gig has a better live version of Chocolate Girl though.
the lyrics are pretty inaccurate, but this was an amazing show. I couldn't stop watching this video after coachella many years ago
That box set is mostly old stuff up to Sung Tongs era.
I was here
so many people exhaling smoke
haha
Holy fucking shit... :O
AC is great.
Same.
Agreed. I felt a similar feeling when I first saw this video. Have you seen it live though? I have to say in the past 8 months, the five times I've seen them this has been the best opening song. It's quite powerful. I really wish I could re live Terminal 5 just for this song.
@sydmarissa i have a "conspiracy" theory
labels are powerful - gay, emo, christian, muslim, democrat, republican
labels put people in boxes
the label hipster has been around for awhile but wasn't really transposed to any type of person
recently its become a negative meaning I believe to keep people away from the positivity this type of music might exhibit
for me its brought content in being okay with thinking differently or behaving differently because i couldn't relate to mainstream norms
@Ramentastic fuck yeah if they did anything else off that album it would be awesome
I always do
I never thought about it until now, but yeah! it just may be.
@DAvonzoAllDay too true. too true. same with salem.
7:09
OG version >
They're both great in their own regards.
Well you clearly saw the one show where that occurred. They are the most hipster thing ever. Pitchfork loves them. Irony loves them. Nietzsche loves them. They're hipster.
@mowrt620 you really can't knock it unless you've seen it. I'm telling you, when they drop the bass... and with avey's phasered scream, it's the shit. Most of their songs make alot more sense live I feel, and this is the best example (or at least one of them).
mine forever
@Ramentastic Indeed! I think most of ours would! :-)
I saw more than one show...
And just because one group likes something does not make it exclusively that. I'm sure there are hipsters who hate AC as well. In fact i know some...
oh fuck yeah.
I love chocolate girl, and its definitely good to see them do some of their older stuff, but I don't think this version really does the album version justice. This is different, and a great performance in its own right, but the album version is way better. Panda and Avey did the Chocolate Girl on Spirit with just the two of them, there's no reason to strip it down even further!
cute version
i thought he was gonna open up his brain again :(
i hear him saying that too
@VimeosBetter you can convert youtube vids to mp3 ...search google for youtube to mp3
How can I get the audio for this, i think its amzing and i seriously want it on my ipod
it sounds like they're sampling a Deerhunter song beginning at 3:24
omg im almost certain of it
It sounds like Walkabout, except Logos came out a year later so i don't think that's what it is
@yeahyeahyaha2 Thanks.
does anyone know where i can find this version of this song??
"Hipsters are the friends who sneer when you cop to liking Coldplay. They're the people who wear t-shirts silk-screened with quotes from movies you've never heard of and the only ones in America who still think Pabst Blue Ribbon is a good beer. They sport cowboy hats and berets and think Kanye West stole their sunglasses. Everything about them is exactingly constructed to give off the vibe that they just don't care."
TIME - July 01
Very watery.
not that many years, only 4...
