To all of you fun fellows saying you don't like this version. This was played live BEFORE the album was released. This is how most of animals songs are released they play it live (sometimes write it live) and record after. Now saying that, this version can be rough at parts but damn these guys are amazing.
You gotta realize that this mix is before the album was recorded

it's like it's Aveys solo version, with beautiful harmonies backed by Panda's verses that you cant hear so clearly mixed perfectly with the singing sample in the back.

Avey Tare's supposed to be singing backup and Bear's got the lead... so why are Tare's vocals WAY in the front of the mix while Bear is barely audible?

if this goes on an album i hope avey's vocals are closer to the warbling squeals like in the npr version of this song, it sounds much more passionate and dramatic. i'm not too crazy about the enunciation he does here.

The only good thing about this live version is Panda Bear. I never thought someone's singing could sound good and make me laugh at the same time.
I really love it when people can't just not like a group, but have to formulate reasons that justify that fact and implicitly denigrate those who do like the group.

I know people think Avey is too loud. But remember that during this era, write songs for live shows and then refine then on tour before recording an album based on their live material. They might have just been experimenting with different arrangements and mixes
Yeah, when I first heard this I danced. =) I was listening to it on my 360 when I was in a party and I was happy.
there's certainly a lot of videos on youtube that were around the time Noah was sick, but I don't think anyone else was sick at the time. one thing people need to understand is that AC has a studio sound and a live sound. That doesn't mean that one is better than the other. They're just different... On top of that, you have to take into consideration that Noah is sick. Have you ever tried singing while sick? Noah's pretty impressive for a sick person even if it is pitchy.

this version has a really neat way it handles the one part where Noah takes over. his volume is so lighter, it makes it just sound like vocal harmonies instead of lyrics during the part.
Thought this was the highlight of the set, with Comfy in Nautica close behind. Incredible.

Thanks, I would hope so. They were pretty ace at Pitchfork. I expected it to be boring coming right out of Dinosaur Jr and hearing them play new stuff but it was incredibly entertaining. I think they played this but I'm not sure.
If you read the lyrics it still makes sense even if he has no daughter or even a wife:

I'm not trying to argue or anything, just pointing out he does have a wife and I think it does make sense. It's possible to feel the need for something before having it i.e.: a family and a house!

i kinda like the difference in singing they have live. I wouldn't call it imperfections from the studio version, I'd call it different, but still a hella of a track.
