  • Hello everyone, the April 2024 premium subscription art supply box from Sketchbox has arrived for me! This art haul is always full of surprises! I hope you enjoy this unboxing, with a quick look at the contents, how they swatch out, and my little artwork.
It's always fun to try out new art supplies and sometimes more of a challenge than others, but a great creative exercise.
Other paper I tried was from Sketchbox July 2021- Royal Talens Toned Paper Pad, Rembrandt
Do you have experience with Pan Pastels? Please comment with your experiences.
Thanks for watching and let me know what you think. Did you get the box? What was a hit or a miss for you?
    Thanks for watching!

I like your feather. I had some good luck with short pats insteads of long strokes, but idk what I'm doing. I do love this box tho. I've only ever used the pan pastel from the sketchbox back in... august? So I'm happy to get more. The green def works with these if I want to do a floral or something.
I agree about the colored pencils, would have rather had a single of a better kind. But they work okay. So far I've been using the black watercolor paper sketchbox sent ages ago to practice on, since the 6 sheets of the colourfix is so expensive.

Thank you! 😀. Good thought on the green. I think I have to be very careful about not overdoing it with that paper...I'll try the short pats...thanks.
I was surprised when I saw that the basics box got a holbein pencil...much higher value...I think I would have liked that better, but 1 Holbein is worth more than two of the one's we got...so maybe they just couldn't fit it. 😕 I have some black artist tiles paper that I did some practice on but it's a totally different paper experience...doesn't move/blend much, but also doesn't dust up as much either. I love the color payout though in either case. :)

Lindsey the Frugal Crafter has a pastel class in general that you can sign up for.i really like pastels (including pan), but am not particularly good at them, so I bought her class. However, other than going thru the intro and its lesson, I haven’t had a chance to go thru the rest of it yet. They are self paced and you own it forever (or until she dies), so there’s no apparent rush, in case you’re interested. I like here mixed media style, so I thought I’d suggest it. No affiliation 😻

Sometimes they’re the best value in a set. I wonder if they’d be on sale at a large art distributor. You actually could use cheap eye shadow, but it wouldn’t be artist grade. Jane Davenport (Australian artist had some smaller sets that were inspired by the look of makeup pallets. I’m not sure about the lightfastness of those either. 🤔
