  • In this landscape photography video I take you with me on a wild camp in Snowdonia, on the Nantlle Ridge. Setting out from Rhyd Ddu in some reasonably promising conditions for landscape photography we spend the night at the summit of Y Garn, Nantlle. The photography at sunset and sunrise turns out to be very enjoyable.

    Your videos whilst less frequent than they once were, are among my most eagerly anticipated ones. The shot of the castle....the ability to deconstruct the image and use such a photographic device such as the foreground rocks, really means you know how to construct great images. I hope one day to have that ability.

    My goodness me, that last image is a belter. How your images change when your up in the mountains - they reflect the obvious calm, peace you get from being there in your element. I had to laugh at the panorama, my total lack of comprehension when I think you said it was a multiu image blended panorama ???!!! it was fab of course but I hadnt a clue how you achieved it lol.

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  Před 2 lety +1

      Cheers. The 'multi-image' was 2 or 3 exposures at each camera position to allow for balancing the high dynamic range in post. Being careful to ensure that each resulting blend would be close enough to the others in overall exposure values to stitch together properly horizontally without light and dark vertical bands appearing in the final pano 😊👍

    Really enjoyed this one. For once I recognised where you were as I went swimming in Llyn y Dywarchen several times during a really hot week last summer. Not that I'll ever get up the ridge like you mind, but it's nice to see what it looks like from up there. I'm not surprised you go up slowly given the amount of gear you take, you're packed to the hilt. My old legs creak at a camera pack and a couple of lenses these days so mountain ridges are a thing of the past. Still, your efforts reaped good rewards although I have to agree with others on the Kilchurn shot; crop out the stones and you've got a much better image in my opinion. Cracking Video Mr. G.

    Hi Dave. As always a very enjoyable vlog, you are one of a just a few vloggers I follow these days, including the pubcast guys plus a few others. Regards frequency of vlogging, I prefer quality over quantity any time. It was great to see you on the Nantlle Ridge as it brought back memories. I walked up there with a friend quite a few years ago, what a slog! It was deserted, the rocks were slippery and it was shrouded in mist. I remember looking back and seeing Faces Rock appearing out of the mist, it was quite a shock as I didn't know it existed. We reached the first ridge (which you captured so well) and it looked too daunting to tackle so we chickened out. I have been over Crib Goch a couple of times, but the isolation of the Nantlle was something else; it felt much more unforgiving. Very best wishes - Robin

      @BosePhotography Před 2 lety

      @@DGriffGallery Oh, I surpassed being embarrassed many years ago! :) The expensive tents definitely have their place, and I still have my eyes on a terra nova when I can justify the cost to reduce weight, but having used Eurohike tents for many years of festivals and camping trips with friends I'm a big fan of some of the 'budget' options, and they can be so much more comfortable! In fact I have a nice spacious three man Eurohike that's in storage (i.e. in my parents house!) that I might check to see if it's still any good for the next campsite trip.

I had a wild country zephros 2 and coffin like it was and my claustraphobia kicked in hard on the top of Mynydd Llangorse (strnagely thats where I have been today) and got rid. I have a cheap as chips lightweight Naturehike which looks to be the similar design to your newbiw. Hi Peter thanks so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, you're quite right, I often head to that area on a busy weekend. As for a Milky Way shot, I have 2 very good reasons why I didn't go for that: 1. I found that I wasn't using it very much, but I have since replaced it with the new 8-25 which is much more flexible and, of course, it communicates with the camera body. 2.
