    In this landscape photography video I'm getting ready to travel to northern Norway for a few days of photography with a friend who has very kindly invited me to lodge with him. He's not too far from Lofoten and we may drive down there, dependent on the weather conditions we encounter. And I will certainly be hiking and visiting some locations close to his home for some landscape photography.
    But before I leave I wanted to share with you my thinking around the camera equipment and lens choices for this trip. I have spent some time considering whether to take my heavier pro gear, or stick with a lightweight travel set up. Join me in this video to find out what I have decided upon and why.

    Thank you David for visiting me. I had a great time. For the viewers: He made it!!! All the time I had with me my black suitcase with ekstra camera and lenses for an emergency. I never needed to open it!! I also learned a bit about sloooooowing down. Now I look forwards to seeing the final images from David. 🤠

      Having seen a few so far on my big screen I'm very happy with the image quality I got with the gear, but it was always good to know I could have switched out if necessary. Whether I'd have made the same choice without that option, I'm not so sure ... 😊👍

    I would say that it all depends upon what your travel gear is. And how your glass selection is. All my travel camera setup is 4/3 but the lens both zooms and prime lenses are great lens.

    I used an em-5 with a manual 12 mm cine lens on a trip from Las Vegas to Denver. No other gear. It is a bit scary to think that every shot has to be manually focused but what a great challenge. I grew a lot on that trip. Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, Aspen, Rocky Mtns.

    Thanks David, you will have an amazing time I am sure. For what it's worth I completely agree with your decision. We are just leaving Alaska after two weeks of amazing photography and have photographed subjects as wide ranging as coastal brown bears, mountain landscapes, to the northern lights. I have a full peli case of lenses - a sigma 60-600, 40mm art, and a zeiss 21mm. All have been fantastic but the trip would have been a lot more relaxing had I not continuously swapped lenses. I daresay my 40mm would have been great on its own. My R5 sensor would have been perfect for close cropping, and it would have been wide enough for some great aurora shots. Anyway, have a great time. When I want to go light, I take a 24MP FF Nikon Z, a 14-30mm and a 24-120mm lens (used to take their 24-200 but sold it). This at least allows me to capture what I want in most cases, and I'm not bogged down with gear. I'll then also take a travel tripod to go along with it, and really, this is all I need for travel and landscape. If I'm going somewhere special I might take my 24-70 for the ultimate in sharpness, but these two lenses and the camera body (aside from a spare that I bring but don't carry around every day) is all I need. I do try to travel light and if I'm doing travel photography like in a city, then it's usually just the 24-120 and one body (no bag, no tripod). Only if I think I'm going to be doing architecture will I bring a small bag and the wide angle, but usually is not the case unless it's planned (like it's rainining and I'm only doing indoor architecture).

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi David, the 35-100 is way better. The issue with the 14-150 is being the FF equiv of 28-300 it suffers from how optics and light work. There's only so much that the glass they can shoe-horn into a light and small lens can do. To make it sharper would mean more elements and more weight and expense, and even then there would be compromises. It's a very handy focal range, but there's a reason that manufacturers settled on a 70-200 equiv for a medium telephoto range. Any longer focal range and the quality degrades due to the laws of physics. Seems to me that the whole point of an interchangeable lens system is to use the better optics and change the glass every now and then 😊👍

I stupidly sold the robust EM5-II. I do expeditions and climbing, but also wildlife. I think landscape photography on m43 really can be light, the rest, I'm not so sure.
