  • A 2500 point competitive Warhammer Fantasy Battle between my Bretonnians vs Mark's Beastmen
    We are playing with closed lists and the‪@triplecrownwargaming‬ comp system. I'm about to take this very Bretonnian army to the @Triple Crown Wargaming Grand Tournament. After my 1.5 our Bretonnian tactica (see my other videos) it's time for me to put my money where my mouth is!

    Doombull: heavy armour; shield; Sword of Striking; Talisman of Preservation; Ramhorn Helm; Gnarled Hide 343

    Bray-Shaman: Level 2 Wizard; Lore of Shadow; additional hand weapon; Power Stone 132
    47 Gors: Foe-render; Musician; Standard Bearer; additional hand weapon 401

    Why do my enemies always feel the need to immortalise my defeats in you tube battle reports!!!!! Damn you!!!!! :) Khazbar the Magnificent will be back for his Revenge.

    • @Knoffles
      @Knoffles Před 2 lety +1

      It was a great game. Definitely underestimated the unicorns/they were an eye opener as they added a new aspect to the list. Not charging the unicorn with the Bestigor was probably a mistake as they effectively did nothing all game because of it. It was the 2nd game I had used the bull and Razorgor herd combo and I made exactly the same mistake as the previous one (another loss also immortalised on CZcams by D6 Wounds) and that was separating the Doombull from the unit. With a base LD of 6, they really need to be in range of the general or have the attached character. If I use them again, I may drop the Bestigor altogether and switch up the list.

    • @DrBlaxill
      @DrBlaxill  Před 2 lety

      The mark of nurgle bestigor are a good anvil- the only real one in that list (apart form the Doombull in his way!). I don't know how well it would have ended for me had I charged them- because I can tell you I would have swung a lot at Khazbar for fear he had crown of command. and WS10 and mark of Nurgle I might just have missed him and wasted the attacks.
      Doesn't Doombull give razgor frenzy when he is with them? If so that would make them immune to panic (which is likely a liability with how much chaf there is in a beastman list)

    • @Knoffles
      @Knoffles Před 2 lety

      Yep he does give them frenzy. Part of the reason he joins them as it helps offset their low LD

      The Comp system is something used here in the UK to give a bit more balance to the games. There have of course many variations of comping used over time and in different countries, but this one has been the dominant one in the UK for the last 5 years or so. Definitely I'll do some chaos when I pick them up again. I've been enjoying the tactical challenge of Bretonnia (Chaos is playing on easy mode in comparison!) but it won't be long before I break them out again.

    • @MacMuskelAttack
      @MacMuskelAttack Před 2 lety

      @@DrBlaxill Wonderful =D I started with chaos a couple of months ago, and I do play quite competitively...but I have to say I find them way harder to play than Orcs and goblins, Dark Elves and VC. Thanks for the superb content! 😀 PS. Fantastically beautiful army you have there!

    • @DrBlaxill
      @DrBlaxill  Před 2 lety

      @@MacMuskelAttack Interesting. Dark Elves are the best army- most gamers agree on that. However, Warriors are very strong- easily on par with with VC and better than O&G (unless you bring a gunline). There is a lower model count however and the Demon Prince, brilliant as he is, will occasionally die to a war engine or miscast. To me, the real cheese in warriors is with Throgg and Trolls. With my Brets, I quite like facing warriors however as they don't have generically stubborn massive units.

    • @MacMuskelAttack
      @MacMuskelAttack Před 2 lety +1

      @@DrBlaxill I actually stay away from the Daemonnprince and Discolord. They almost seem not "fair". =P My main issue is having such a low model count. I find it hard to be overly tactical when I have such a low number of units to move around. But it is getting better =) Orcs and goblins in the other hand. A few warmachines, some handgrenades and chariots, and some hard hitting units. Does me right every time =)

    • @DrBlaxill
      @DrBlaxill  Před 2 lety +1

      @@MacMuskelAttack I agree- the DP is unbreakable and the Disclord unkillable, which often doesn't make for the most interesting game unless the opponent a.) knows how to deal with them and b.) has the tools. An army with a bit of every dimension of warfare can be more satisfying to play with.

  • @TheTarturo
    @TheTarturo Před 2 lety +2

    Of all the battle reporters I have listened to, you are clearly the best. Presentation, armies etc. are all good and well but for me it comes done to one fact: I can just listgen to you, with half an ear and still get what was going on. You have the right mix between important and fluff sentences, your cadence is slow enough as well as your clear pronounciation for a non-native such as me.
    If you change things up in the future, let that be the one thing you keep the same, please.^^

    • @DrBlaxill
      @DrBlaxill  Před 2 lety +3

      What a lovely comment. Delighted you enjoyed it. Warhammer is by its nature a combination of fluff, strategy, and camaraderie so I think it's important to have a bit of all three in telling the story :-)

    • @TheTarturo
      @TheTarturo Před 2 lety

      @@DrBlaxill That is a mighty fine way to look at it. How is the gaming scene where you play at btw? Small group of tightnight buddies or something else?

    • @DrBlaxill
      @DrBlaxill  Před 2 lety +1

      @@TheTarturo My own source of 8th ed Warhammer is from three main sources: a local gaming club in South East London where perhaps 4 or 5 of us still play 8th ed. Then there's the UK tournament scene where there are perhaps 4-5 weekend events per year. Finally, there's a broader group of disparate gamers in London and its commuter belt who arrange games on an ad hoc basis in the city's rather small number of gaming places where you book tables.
      It's not ideal (in that I would like to play more often with more people) but it's still quite privileged compared to many who just might not have access to other players depending on where they live.

    • @TheTarturo
      @TheTarturo Před 2 lety

      @@DrBlaxill That's a small but healthy mix. Goes to show what was thrown away by GW. Don't know any other system that is still pursued like that.
      I was lucky in that regard, we have a very active community here in Halle (East Germany) with both over a dozen regular players and people commuting to our events regularly for play. Just this weekend I (re-) introduced both and old player and a youngblood into the game, so we are actually slowly growing over time.
      What kind of restrictions do you play? I got the gist during your tournament video, but it seems to differ quite a bit from what we used to play in Germany and currently use in our community.

    • @DrBlaxill
      @DrBlaxill  Před 2 lety +1

      @@TheTarturo Exactly. The continued interest in system officially dead for so long is striking.
      It's great to hear of players actually picking up the game for the first time. What often happens though is that if you play WHFB at a club or a store here in the UK, the game gets a lot of interest from passing players (either because they are interested to see Fantasy still being played, or they are gamers who have literally never seen GW rank and flank but have played Total War).
      There's a comp system called Triple Crown which is the most respected and widely used one here in the UK (although in the past other systems, like Swedish Comp, were used). It's designed for a five-game tournament and an adjustment to your overall score at the end. It's not designed to make all armies equal but it does add a lot of balance. You can find it here:
