- In this 2000pts 6th Ed batrep a Necrarch Vampire coven plans an invasion into the Empire, but must first secure a lost book of power from a cairn in the Black Mountains. Hearing reports from their rangers that the dead are moving through their mountain passes, the Dwarfs of Karak Hirn have marched out to send them back to their unquiet graves.

A failed Curse of Years should turn a unit of Dwarf Warriors into a unit of Longbeards!
Haha, good one!
That was a solid 5 hour game! Hope to get another one in before I head off to Philippines
That it was sir! Will definitely have to get you back in before then.
@@rogueelementgaming Hope to see that dude again some time. :)
I love that there are channels still keeping the classic editions alive. Great video!
Cheers mate! 😁
Makes my day when one of these pop up. Top quality oldhammer + you & your guests always seem such jolly decent chaps to boot. Thanks for your work.
Thank you so much for the awesome comment dude! Chuffed.
Hi, just found the channel and it is great to see 6th ed. Thanks. As has been noted though the VC should have been coached. The Zombie Dragon was a huge points sink to put a Necrarch on and made the list illegal. He also made charges that were suicidal in Combat Resolution. The ghouls with their 2 attacks should have lapped round the warriors (more attacks and flank CR bonus). Do not let me put you off though, I will be watching everything eagerly.
Cheers mate! Glad you enjoyed it!
That Banshee dodged a bullet there, haha!
huge fan of your 6th ed videos. Best in the business at whfb reports imo and I always look forward to your videos. Just holistically very enjoyable.
Mate, thanks you so much! Loving that people are enjoying the vids.
Ha ha - that artillery hill. Every time 😉
Great to see the classic zombie dragon on the table!
Great game, played in the proper spirit! One rule to point out - you should ignore movement penalties for terrain when fleeing and pursuing. Great to see you flying to flag for 6th edition. It’s what I still play. Never gets boring.
Another absolutely fantastic game! Thank you for continuing the content creation. Loved all the wild moments like the Banshee taking down the BSB who was already down a wound from Curse of Years. That is why we play!
Thanks dude! That is, indeed, why we play!
Realy enjoy your battle reports. So much fun and great sportsmanship. Im furiously digging out my 6th edition books and minis. I must admit my favorite part of this game may have been the final shooting phase of the dwarves. Managed to wound the undead dragon and vampire lord but you ultimately declared them “barely alive “ I almost choked on my tea laughing. The irony
Brilliant. One detail though, Slayers are initiative 2. Only the Giant Slayer gets another pip of initiative added to it's profile.
Cheers
This channel its so fun to watch, Fantasy is my jam and Vampire Count my principal army. Nice video, i cant wait another battle report! Great job!
Thanks Champion! Love the Vampire Counts. They will be my next major project once I finish my Dwarfs and O&G.
"What? Filthy undead in our pass? No worries my lord, we've slaughtered countless invaders"
"Yess.. our prize is close.. whats thisss? so many bones litter the pass .. heh heh .. rise, rise! children of the hydra!"
Friday night with coffee and WHFB, better than tv. This was great, well played, fun game with strange twists. I believe in dreg sabotage too, dispicable fiends.
Mate, I live for these narrative driven comments!
Bruhs. I'm sick with corona right now, and watching this between naps was really cool. Thanks for that, and keep the 6th ed battle reports coming, best edition imo.
Glad we could ease your recovery time my man!
So many games coming out! Haven't watched this one yet, but very excited about all the content. Great work 👍👍
Thanks mate! Have started expanding my pool of opponents and getting a little momentum going. Feels good!
Love all the Battle Reports you do. And pretty much every time you face a new opponent I want to start a new warhammer army. I just started a Skaven army after watching your last battle report. Now I must resist printing off a Vampire counts army...
Hahahah I know right! VC are my next major project!
Thanks heaps dude! Loving the positive feedback from the community!
At 47m when your cannon is shooting at the Dragon the misfire on the bounce doesn't result on a die roll on the table it just thuds into the ground. page 122 of the Rulebook.
"if a misfired is rolled on the bounce roll then this merely indicates that the ball has stuck in the ground and does not bounce". Keep those Dwarf Cannons firing Bro!
Indeed sir! I did catch it in the edit. Feels bad 😫
Another great battle. Looked like you both had a ton of fun with it!
It was indeed a fun one my man! Cheers 🍻
Glad to see your subscriber base picking up steam! I hope it encourages you to keep up the awesome content, and maybe gets the attention of more people in the area with interesting armies!
Fingers crossed my man 🤞🏻 Getting super close the monetization threshold! 😄
Love these! I like change of armies but the enjoyment from you playing the game is always the same!
Cheers champion! 🍻🏆
The square bases bring back so many good memories, I want me wood elves back
Feels bad looking back on models/armies lost to the winds of time. I'm super glad I kept what I've got.
Another Victory to my Favoriten Army. Well done
Cheers mate!
It is about 15 years ago, that I played Warhammer Fantasy, but I think a Missfire on the second roll (bounce roll) of a cannon just means, that the cannonball doesn't bounce but just hits the ground where it first dropped. You don't have to roll on the missfire table in that case. But as I said, it has been a long time and I started 4th Edition back in the days, so maybe I recall it wrongly. /edit: just read some of the other comments, and it seems, I remembered correctly. Yeeha. After such a long time ^^ BTW man: Great Videos, keep them coming. If you are looking for a realy realy great modern Tabletop Game, I recommend looking into A Song of Ice and Fire - The Miniatures Game from CMON
You are indeed correct sir! Well remembered! I did put a note on screen saying as much, as I caught it in the edit. Did it not come up?
Thanks for the kind words! I have been looking at a song of ice and fire for AGES, but just haven't pulled the trigger. It looks awesome!
Good show! It's always nice to see Vamps vs Dwarfs.
It's a tough match up for the Vampire Counts, but a fun one!
Those Undead definitely bit
more that they can chew! Great match! Really thought he might have the chance in his turn 3 or 4 'cause all of that dwarven machinery debacle. That move forward with his stinkin' flies infested general was daring. Smart for you to go forward with the infantry though. I see the channel is rising, but so does my alcohol intake haha. Cheers!
Hahaha cheers champion! 🍻
Warhammer Fantasy is my jam! Great work fellas
Cheers mate!
I think you forgot to add the +1 to casting from the Necrach ability a few times (e.g. at 1:06 for the Curse of Years).
Yeah man. We forgot it for most of the game! Woops! 😅
I really love your videos guys, you are legend!
Just a couple of rules mistakes during this game:
- The vampire courtier uses 3 dice in his first spell, he can only use 2, he is a level 1 wizzard!
- You forget to check fear in the charge of the great bats, this could potentially let the dwarfs hitting on 6s
- the terror check is taken at the begining of the turn (or when you charge or be charged by), not when the terror unit ends near of the enemy unit
- banshees doesn´t need general presence to march, IIRC
- you forget the necrarc +1 to cast (a permanent power, they add this 1 to all their cast rolls, also the courtier) most of times...and this was important, because several important spells just fail because this single point!
- flying units moving all their movement when they fail the charge, not just half of it. And you can only redirect charge if didn´t be able to charge this second unit at the start of the fase, so flying units (and specially if they are big targets) have it very difficult to redirect charge
- remember that undead units can not flee as a charge reaction (you didn´t do it, but thought about it with the courtier)
- the handguns firing at vampire courtier on turn 5 should be hitting on 6s, because they move and were at long range
- Be careful with "remains in play" spells. The damage of them is released at the start of the magic fase (so you can´t prevent it if you dispell in this same fase), BUT in the moment that his caster try to cast another spell, the "remain in play" spell is automatically dispelled
In any case, great game, very exciting, i am really looking forward the next video!
PD: i am a Vampire Counts player, and I would like to recommend a few tactical ideas for the vampire player:
- i would try to play gouls in smaller units (5 to 10 miniatures), trying to get the flanks of the enemy. Remember that you can flee if a powerful unit charge to you, so you can also use then to distract big enemy units
- i wouldn´t get in combat with spectral units against big rank&file units: they will just win you with static resolution. Banshees are just for shooting, and spectral host is better trying to get the enemy flanks. If you can´t do that, just let the enemy charge at you. At least, you gain time
- I always invoke zombies in new units instead of skeletons, because they do the same job and have more options to reach the minimal invoke number
- Be more agressive with the zombie dragon. It is a very risky bet in a list, and i don´t think it is the best option (but i also play it, with a necrac lord as well), but can do a lot of damage if you use it properly. In this game, he could potentially charge the general dwarf unit in the flank...and obliterated it. Moreover, in combat you are protected of enemy artillery, so i recomend you put it in a flank and get in combat as fast as you can. Breath attack is only for these turns when you don´t be able to charge (or only have a frontal charge against a powerful unit)
- Necromancers are valuable units, but very fragile. When the fight draws near, they should left his unit and remain at the rear
- I would use dire wolves in smallers units as well, 5 miniatures, and use them to attack artillery crews and distract big units
Happy wargaming!
Thanks for the rules clarifications man, and thanks for watching!
Just seen your comment now. Great advice! I didn't realize Banshees dont need a general to charge! "A Banshee is treated as a character on foot for movement" of course! That will come in handy next game.
great to see Dwaine. Enjoy his tagalog vids
Just discovered your squarehammer batreps - kudos for keeping the flame alive, and have been enjoying what I've watched so far. Hope you keep 'em coming! I started playing 6th ed back in the day with Beastmen and just dusted the ol' goatmen off and been giving them a refurb having learned of the impending release of The Old World by GW. If you're ever looking for an opponent hit me up as I'm not that far from Brissy ... Anyway, can't wait to see your next match up!
Thanks heaps dude! I'm always looking for more opponents with painted armies keen to film a game with me! Swing me a message on the Rogue Element Gaming Facebook page linked in the description and we'll get something sorted!
Hell yes! And also, nice dwarf tshirt!
Thanks my man!
Oh! Nice, new opponent! Not seen it yet but filing on some models, perfect background! :D
I feel my Ash-ork should have been there helping the Dwarfs (!) against the skeletons and the Necronomicon though.. ;)
I really like that you have a little bit of narrative. makes it more interesting. I feel like I am missing out on the hobby if I don´t have atleasta few named characters and some fun background. Otherwise I could play chess..? hehe..
Looked like a good game!
Hahahah, your Ash-Ork would have been right at home indeed! Though I think the Dawi would have taken quite a bit of convincing to except his aid.
I feel the same way about the narrative dude. It's a big part of the enjoyment for me.
@@rogueelementgaming Probably, but it´s okay, Ashork doesn´t hate the stunties back.. he just enjoys krumping them now and then.. if they hold a grudge about it.. It´s their problem.. ;)
And they seem to be upset when he raids the breweries now and then...
Yeah! I love that you mention some back story.. Makes a huge difference.
Randomely listened to this on a long drive ! Made my day ! 6th was how I started WFB and this made me want to rerun some games !
Great energy btw.
Does anyone know where we can find the rules et army books for 6th nowadays ?
Thanks mate!
You can also use the Rune of Forging on the bounce misfire as long as you didn't use it on a misfire for the initial distance. I'm pretty sure you said you took it.
The Rune of Accuracy gives the grudge thrower Magical Attacks without needing the FA one.
As much as i love 6th ediiton, Dwarves' is the most overpowered armybook in it.
Playing against them always looks like an execution to me :(
The report is great though and the quality is fantastic!
Keep it up!
Cheers mate! Glad you enjoyed it in spite of your misgivings!
The ghouls needed to take a panic test because of a unit beeing destroyed in combat near them
He cannot fire into combat. It says if u startet. That attack doesnt scatter
Just so you know fleeing and persuit is not slowed by difficult terrain or obsticles. But I don't think it would have made much difference the way you resolved it. (pg 74 & 75 of the combat section if that helps).
Terror tests for being within 6" are done at the start of the turn (of the unit taking the test).
Ah, cool. Cheers my man!
Love me some vampire counts, great to see. Which army book would this have been?
Keep the good work boys 👍
Thank you! Will do!
All your opponents are great in front of a camera.
I know right! Pro's, the lot of them.
Important rule: Fleeing units and pursuing units are considered skirmishers for the sake of difficult terrain. That means they move their full move speed. If it worked as you depicted you wouldn't have caught and destroyed the ghoul unit otherwise.
Also skeletons have hand weapons as well as spears in 6e. The Vampire Counts player should have used hand weapon and shield for the parry save to his armor on charge.
43:00
Don't the fell bats cause fear not that it matters now
havent played warhammer in years, d6 wounds on partially covered stonethrower hits sound off though. as far as i remember its only the central hit thats d6 wounds. can someone confirm?
Nah, it's d6 anywhere under the template my man.
Love VC. The boney bois have been the ones for me since the mid-90s.
Saying that, at 4:48 your boy Dwayne says his Lord on Zombie dragon is 435pts. A Vamp Lord, naked, is 585pts when on a zombie dragon. With lvl 3 and a full compliment of magic items/powers he would top out at 735pts so don't know whether that's just a brain fart from me not hearing it correctly, or Dwayne was 300pts up in the battle?
Yeah, there was a little readjusting of the list before the game and this probably got missed. Woops!
Oooh, VCs! That's a different one.
Hell yeah it is!
Great bat rep again. As to the zombie dragon shooting into combat, its not allowed deliberately ,(p60 players may not chose targets engaged in combat). You cant choose units in combat as a target (unless youre skaven), the section you were referring to is supposed to cover scattering templates or accidental overlap (say using a breath weapon on a viable unit and it then catches a unit behind that happens to be in combat).
With the Zombie dragon charging the war machines, you cant redirect into a target you could have initially charged, only ones you couldnt see. (also flyers failing charges still move their full move)
Thanks Ed!
Yeah, I've already been corrected on the Zombie Dragon breathing into combat. Woops!
It doesn't say anywhere that the target of a redirected charge needed to not be visible. Just that if their is a choice between multiple targets it has to be the closest one. It does mention it in the example, but the example is not the rule.
Good to know about flyers moving full distance on a failed charge!
Cheers for the clarifications and thanks for watching!
@@rogueelementgaming no worries and loving your bat reps, can't wait to see more! Re the redirect, it's part of the faq in the chronicles (annual 2004 p80
Q: can a unit redirect a charge against an enemy unit it could have originally charged?
A: no. You can only redirect a charge against a unit if could not have declared a charge against them normally but can now do so due to the enemy fleeing
Although from what the main rule book says, absolutely get why you played it like that. It's not particularly clear.
Ah, sweet. Big thanks for the clarification my man!
@@rogueelementgaming no worries fella, I've been caught out by those damn annuals and faqs more than once! Love the positive fun vibe you always have too. Exactly what the hobby needs
Don't Necrarch get +1 to their magic rolls? Why wasn't that factored into this game?
Cool a new vid! Also your dwarf themed shirt game is one point! Where did you find that one.
Thanks man! I found it on TeePublic.
Let’s see some empire soon
Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
Great battle report yet again. Really entertaining, even though the vampire player played it really badly imo. You also made a mistake when it came to the zombie dragon using the breath weapon on the dwarf warriors at the 1 hour 10 minute mark. According to a QA answered by Anthony Reynolds, you can't shoot breath weapons into CC unless you're skaven, the source would the the Direwolf FAQ compilation.
Thanks mate! Yeah, we played that wrong. Woops!
Great batrep! You forgot the Fear checks a bunch of times, tho! Your LD is high but not THAT high.
Did I? Bugger... When?
@@rogueelementgaming 32:23 you have to check Fear to see if you can Stand and Shoot. (Edit: I'm looking the rulebook and I guess I dreamed this rule?! I though if you failed yuour Fear test your only Reaction was stand still or flee) Also when the Vampire Lord won combat and outnumbered you, you automatically flee, you don't even check LD. Those are from the top of my head. There also some rules that I don't remember very well. Can you even fire breath template to a unit engaged in melee with one of your units? I thought that was something only Skaven could do. And don't you have to check LD to avoid walking forward after you kill a whole unit in a single round of combat? A bunch of times dwarves destroyed a summoned unit of skellys and I think they should have make that check, but I'm not 100%. Also, Dragon is toughness 6 so your thunderers wound him on 6's, not 5's.
Great battle in any case. I make those kind of mistakes all the time and they are part of the game. Really fun to watch 6th Edition.
@@GaryArkham the autobreak rule is from 7th Ed imo. And they are playing 6th Ed
@@leb_340 I think the autobreak is also for 6th edition. Edit: yeah, I checked. Page 81 of the 6th Edition rulebook. There's autobreak when outnumbered.
Okay, I've just had a good read of the relevant sections and:
Thunderers should have tested for fear when charged, but there isn't anything in the Fear section about it affecting charge reactions. Just that you flee if outnumbered and hit on 6s in the first round of combat if not.
You are correct I would have auto broken when the Vampire Lord beat the Warriors in combat (though they failed their test and fled anyway)
It mentions "a gout of Dragon fire" in the Template section beneath the Shooting into Combat section as an exception.
It is the players choice to overrun or not after defeating a unit in the first round of combat. No test is taken.
You're totally right, I treated the dragon as T5 in the last turn and wouldn't have wounded it.
Thanks for pointing out the errors my man! Always trying to tighten up my rules knowledge. And thanks for watching!
Just re-watching this great tussle now I'm building my own VC army and noted that the Zombie Dragon couldn't have re-directed it's charge into the Organ Gun as you can only re-direct into an enemy unit you could not have originally charged as per the Chronicles 2002 FAQ:
"Q. Can a unit redirect a charge against an enemy unit that it could
have originally charged?
A. No. You can only redirect a charge against a unit if you could
not have declared a charge against them normally, but can now do so
due to the enemy fleeing.
S. Warhammer Chronicles 2004 page 112"
You are indeed correct sir. Figured this out after the game.
You should make videos of the rules for the 6th edition WF. There is no videos on how the rules work I can find on CZcams.
I don't think I'm the man to do it. 🤣
loved the battle as always.... i like to save these up for when i paint my mini's and binge watch them... have your dwarfs lost yet on this channel?
Nice man. What're you painting?
So far, they've lost only once...
also congrats on the 1k subscribers......onwards n upwards
@@rogueelementgaming im currently painting my sigmarite mausoleum set and 10 ogres and a giant. recently got the mini's off ebay so primed and zenithal highlighted... also got plans to do my last orc chariot after seeing your lets hobby vid....got my juices flowing as it were hehehe
Did the ghouls not get a rank bonus for back rank?
No rank bonus for skirmishers my man
Vampire count army has too many hero choices. Taking vampire lord instead of count counts as a lord and a hero, and taking zombie dragon takes additional hero choice as well. So he could only have one other hero on top of him. Therefore he could have a thrall or a necromancer, but not both.
You are indeed correct sir
Also the lord was 745 not 400 whatever he said and the lord had more than 100 points of bloodlines/magic items
How can his level 1 guy use 3 magic dice
Why not flee with organ gun Crew
Does a tunesmith have 3 attacks?
No, just 2 🙁
It's just dawned on me that the vampire counts have too many characters for the points level. Vampire Lords take an extra hero slot as does the zombie dragon. So they effectively have 5 characters when they are only allowed 4. Not very easy to spot this one as its off to the side of the page near the unit entry.
Oh snap! It's an extra character slot for the Zombie Dragon? Gnarly.
I have doubs about that. Zombi dragon takes a hero slot, not a character slot. I think they are not the same. The same for the vampire lord, he takes a commander slot and a hero slot, but he is a single character. I think the list is correct
@@f.javier3802 Character slots are the total slots available. At 2k you can have 4 characters, Upto one character can be a Lord, Up to 4 can be heroes, but you may have no more than 4 TOTAL characters. A vampire Lord takes up a Lord and Hero slot (so two characters) and the dragon takes up an additional hero slot, so that's 3 character slots, leaving one left.
@@Mercenaryminaturepainter yes, you are completely right! I was reading and reading and reading the rule and I made a really mess...but it is correct, the list have 5 character slots, too many for 2000p
Hey! I have a 6th edition dwarves book. Maybe even a BRB for 6th.
Hang on to em bud. They're gold!
I think you re-rolled a cocked die in the first hour but you stopped the VC player from doing it around 1:24:00. Otherwise it was a great game!!
Yeah I could see how this looked in the edit. The dice I re rolled was cocked enough that a clear facing couldn't be determined, which is the only time I do it on the channel, though it didn't look like it from the camera angle.
After beating the summoned skeletons in combat you could have overrunned or reformed. But otherwise great batrep
Overrun yes, but there isn't a reform in 6th ed my man. Cheers!
Is this army still available, Dwaine? XD
Bahaha! It is available.... to me lol
please ask your guests to review at least their own armybook, if not the general rulebook. This game made me scream at the screen, so many mistakes on the vampire side: he didn't use his bloodlines powers, he charged where he shouldn't have because he didn't know the profiles for his units. It just feels so disappointing to see such a good set up ruined by a poor gameplay. Keep up the content, despite these misteks yours is still the best channel for 6th edition battle reports.
* Dwarves
Incorrect. In Warhammer it's Dwarfs.
@@rogueelementgaming Then why did you pronounce it as "Dwarves" at the start of the video? 0:35
Mate u need better dice. Get some other dice pls or learn to roll them propperly like dwarfs do.
first time visit, the unpainted vampire counts was a real turn off. sorry.
That's fair bud. Check out some of my other vids. Fully painted for the win!
Just steer clear of the first couple 😜
have you thought about playing some stuff like.. A small campaign? A couple of battles with a Skirmish game or two? Maybe have a look at the Albion booklet?
Was just in rewatching this as I painted.. Might have seen it only once and I had only commented once so.... ;)
