- I partnered with Hyundai to make this video. I wouldn’t have if I didn’t personally enjoy what their brand is doing. Someone needed to make an EV that appeals to people that like to tinker and play. Hyundai did just that.

I don't have much sympathy for people who buy a house near a track and then complain they are near a track.
It's incredible how stupid some people are, my local track was built in an old quarry on a mountain about 40 minutes from the nearest town yet I wouldn't be surprised if someone managed to build a house there and then proceed to complain about the noise.
This literally happens to every track around the world no matter where they build it.
Especially when the track is a historic one from 1957 AND one of the first developments in the area. They can go away, nobody's forcing them. It's not like in Australia where some dingus made an airport's path in a residential area and the citizens are arguably and for the right reasons, pissed off. No, they came here fully aware that the track was there.
You would have even less for people who built a house 50 years after the track was already there and has always been in use.
Sucks lawyers live off that sort of stuff. Slowing eating away at what it means to live in America.
Same thing with people near where I live complaining about noise from a private airport. Like what did you expect, you literally bought a house right off the runway, maybe you should move out and let the hobbyist pilots that want to live at a private airport move in. It’s not like it was a hidden fact when you were buying the house.
I don't dislike the Ioniq 5 N and genuinly am considering it as a replacement for my i30N...but 'neighbours' buying a house next to a 70 year old racetrack complaigning about the engine noise don't need silent race cars as a response. They need a huge giant and deafening 300dB 'F*CK OFF' blasted their way.
They need to find new houses is what they need. That track is not only iconic for the area AND a historic landmark, it's also one of the oldest developments in the zone. Priority right. Given that the track (afaik) already makes noise concessions, these people can go eat a big one behind a Maccas.
Imagine Rob selling out this way? For a Hyundai? Hope he sells all his gas cars real soon.
@@eriklarson9137 imagine posting reactions that sound more like a bot then the guy you claim to get paid for content...
@@eriklarson9137 if Hyundai marketing paid to fly you to Laguna Seca and let you drive their cars around the racetrack for free, would you turn them down?

Hyundai dropping some cash on influencers rn
between rob and misha, i can only agree
anything to get the 12 rotor running boosted 🙏
Maybe, but you'll be a good boy and watch Daddy Dahm make money regardless, because unless you have 5 million dollars to pop in Daddy Dahm's belt, you're watching this for free. Capisce?
Realest comment here. Thank you.
Yeah because big CZcamsrs and personalities are going to throw away their following and trust just to get a 1 time cheque from Hyundai to say good things. Just pure cope from people who can't handle Hyundai getting any recognition
Rob pronouncing Nordschleife almost perfectly is making me very happy for some reason :D
Imagine moving into a house next to one of the most iconic race tracks in the world, and complaining about the noise. People are absolutely ridiculous.
Same with army shooting ranges...
The synthesized sounds were terrible, but what hyundai is trying to do here is really cool. I can appreciate the engineers trying to keep the cars engaging for enthusiasts
it lets us know what the driver is doing which is nice, as a passanger it lets you know if they are about to punch it so you dont hurt your neck
Tell them to make the N74 and I'll consider getting a Hyundai
they making 100 of them 50 will be for sale... the other 50 will be for factory team racing
@Elios0000 dang I thought it was just going to be 1. Well at least, if what you say is true, that would be cool, but they will be expensive.
I'll take n64
@@Adam-FRbut what's nice is since it got VERY good reception
They might make a line up in that Design style, let's hope they actually make retro futuristic cars cus that's what I'm hoping for as well
I agree nothing like a new electric hyundai that looks like a hodgepodge of 80s and 90s nissans but also kinda DeLorean ish. Definitely the coolest hyundai
Gran Turismo 1 called, they want their soundclips back
Ain’t gonna get it back😂
@@JohnLee-db9zt Hyundai is keeping it xD
You should be able to import the song you want 4 rotors song in an electric car would be sick
Or an 11,000 rpm v12
3:55 Rob will find a way to get the sweet sweet sound of his 4 rotor into that car, complete with the quick release hood and smashed window features we all know and love.
I can not lie the fake engine sound is super corny 😂
Yeah, but it's not like only EVs are doing it. All car brands from cheap to expensive are enhancing their engine sounds through the speaker system. I always laugh my arse off whenever someone plays with the sound system in their car, mods it, and thus disconnects it from the brain box and they then post questions like "i changed my audio system and my engine sounds rough, how can i fix it?" (paraphrased, reddit/quora and other websites). It's literally one of the most hilarious things in car history.
I think thats the point. It certainly has other sound profiles too....
it sounds so retro lol, like from an 90s video game with synthesizers sound
Agreed, I think it would be more tolerable if the fake engine sounded more like Gran Turismo or Assetto Corsa's fake 4-cylinder engine sound. Whatever the OEMs are doing it sounds too fake. Personally I would want to hear the actual inverter sound on an EV, if you remove the sound deadening or put a microphone near them there is a cool high-pitched whine that sounds different at low power vs high power. The Ford CobraJet 1400 EV drag car is a good example: czcams.com/video/Jxmjt1KUk-U/video.html
I can tell you've never truly tracked a car and understand how important dynamic feedback is to driving enthusiasts.
Completely unrelated, but on regards to the flock around Laguna Seca, unless they were born in 1957 or before and have lived in their houses since 1957 or before, they should have no right to sue for silence on the racing track, the end.
None of the neighbors actually mind. Its this one guy and maybe some others that made this fake ass committee to sue with.
@@banana1658 Seems like it's people looking for cheap land to buy, and pushing their luck given their success in forcing small venues to close with 'noise complaints'.
the 1995 forza noises in the speakers is not appealing in the least, but the rest is really cool
Do you know what the Mustang, the BMW M5, S4 sedan, Porsche cars, Cadillacs and Ferraris have in common? You guessed it, engine sound enhancement systems pipe fed through the car's speaker system to enhance the sound of their engine making them sound louder or bassier or both.
What's your point there, what... are you trying to tell us with that statement of yours? That cars who fake sounds are not appealing? Because that's pretty much the whole market from cheap to expensive.
It has tons of different sounds you can pick from
@@wiktorjachyra1869 Gross.
@@aserta Blame on those engine sound standards. But even those cars have their natural engine sound, something electric cars don't
@@asertaso what's your point? He doesn't like completely artificial engine sounds in an EV that are only there for the aesthetics. And I agree with OP, it honestly does NOT sound good, sorry. How is that the same as ICE cars having sound boosting pipes? You're comparing apples to oranges my guy. The ice car has an actual gas engine making REAL engine sounds that you can make louder with an exhaust if you want. You gonna download straight pipes for your EV? 😂
“We’re dropping everything to finish the 12 rotor!”
“Wait wait. We’re dropping everything to get ready for Pike’s Peak.”
“Wait wait wait. We’re….reviewing electric Hyundais….”
he’s gotta recoup the 12k crash or something
It's wild that people move to areas near race tracks and then complain or sue to have them closed due to noise.
I know someone that bought a house mid winter and didn't realize what he signed up for until the legend cars started ripping the circle track every Sunday. Like a normal person he just sold the house and moved.
First time *ever* I have ever dropped out of a Dahm video in the middle.
That hot lap awesome to watch, Robin could really throw it around, I'll always be a rotor head but you can't deny how far technology has come
It's like the woman at the HOA saying, I can't believe they built a race track here and the old man who owned the track pulled a picture of the track out and he pointed at it and said which tree was yours by the way? it was completely undeveloped around the track. They built houses and moved in and immediately started being Karen's. Wtf???
As a Hyundai tech I’m so hyped to see you doing this. as someone who’s took training classes in the N chassis and understands more then the average about them. Its awesome to see this car having the influence it has

37 million. Now what?
I love how you appreciate the cars for what they are. No prejudice, just what was seen and experienced.

Gotta love rob posting on a Monday
Congrats for making a $70k hatchback (I want one)

Dang Car Reviews now!!!
We getting hyundai content instead of 3 rotor, 4 rotor, 12 rotor, etc...?
It helps fund the better content. Do you get how that works?
That simulated car sound was disgusting brother eeeh
brother eeehhhh, whats that brothaaa.....
why?
Facts
U can turn it off i think,
But it's an audio indicator of the Torque load on the car so it's pretty nice but I'd want something that's more "electric" than just simulating an ICE vehicle
Actually, is not that bad when it is also simulating gears, it is quite funny.
The synthetic noise is silly, but controlling the driving dynamics with software is interesting.
Imagine a disjointed drive (4 independent motors) and independent suspension on all 4 (with control) having that ability. You could basically program the thing to be flatter through corners than a pancake. Super interesting. I think someone played with one of those self extricating Mercedes Benz SUVs (the ones rappers buy because they go up and down like they're on hydraulics) and is making test runs. He or she shows up on the Nurburgring every once in a while and that SUV is extraordinarily "handlable" for its overall shape and purpose.
Did you get to race with Engineering Explained? That'd be a sick collab
"I partnered with Hyundai to make this video." No really? I totally thought you would make this exact video if they weren't paying you. Lol!
classic rob ending
Did you ask Robin why he’s not coming back to PPIHC this year in the Wolf? Weird that he’s competing in one of these this year instead of going for king of the mountain again
The great thing is to have fun on the track you do not need to get a brand new Hyundai. The Model 3's are now getting down to the price where an everyday enthusiast can own them - $20k is not unheard of, and there are shops (Mountain Pass Performance, Unplugged) that can get the rest of the necessary toys for another $1-10k depending on the level of prep you desire. In a reduced power format these are great lappers and fun to drive and very inexpensive. You can also go crazy and get a Plaid like we did for the @teamPGR car and be one of the fastest out there in time trials. All while making no noise and still having a ton of fun. The future of the hobby is bright! We just need more tracks like Laguna, AMP, etc to get DC fast chargers in the paddock. Always great to see and talk with Rob at the GL events.
It's easily the fastest car I've ever had the chance to drive hard. So happy HMG opened the taps on this one.
18 min charge to 80% is insane 😮
Cool car - unlikely I'll ever be in a position to buy one but the efforts by Hyundai to be a fan favourite is great. Love to see passion in peoples work.
You conceded right away, no more loud gas when you welcome in its replacement
I love seeing Rally mentioned more and more in Rob's channel and social media.
Didn't Hyundai have BMW M engineers on its N team?
biermann for example used to head Bmw M, yes. he spent the last few years at N.
Albert Biermann ❤

I'm not really in the market for either since I prefer old turbo Mopars (2.2 turbo 1 and 2 cars and I have an SRT-4 Neon).
I guess I just thought "cool and established team might do cool stuff with new company" and thought to ask.
Rob giggling like a kid in a candy store is my favorite thing
I love the artificial noise
They are trying and with angethegreats engine simulator it could be incredible
I like it, this is a EV i'd own...
Grats on the 38
now if the the major manufacturers would stop making ev's look weird for the sake of doing it.
I'm very interested in these. I currently have a stinger so I have some understanding of the KDM market but I currently have nothing else that has kinda large storage capacity with a focus on driving dynamics with a decent amount of power regardless of EV or ICE drivetrain. If we ever get something like this ionic 5 N that has closer to 300 mi of range and under 40K, i might make the jump. The Ionic 5 is close to that practical zippy larger than sedan car but we're not quite there
That corkscrew!
Rob Dahm won by a nose!
Track time is awesome, no way Rob would pass up this opportunity
I REALLY hope the Rivian R3 is a more sporty, race-y oriented little car. I have no doubt itll be fast but i hope its fun
Rob Dahl isn’t much of a track driver. He’s into straight line performance 🥱
You know the guy from Hyundai is a car guy when he has a martini strap for his apple watch hahah
An electric Hyundai? Who does your Advertisement bookings?
When it's such an odd video you know it paid damn well for him to accept, I'm sure it was worth it.
Rob was driving the honda insight before it was cool. And we are still waiting for it to be cool
Who else is gonna pay him to drive Laguna Seca? I would drive a golf car on Laguna Seca if somebody paid me to do it. Take the chance, get the experience.
@@youtubeuser443 agreed, most of us pay money to drive at racetracks in our own cars that have to get fixed they break. I'd love to drive a Hyundai anything around Laguna Seca, especially if they pay for the trip.
I rented one in San Jose and nearly snapped my neck pulling out, wasn’t ready for the instant torque. It is certainly a hell of a vehicle.. it just doesn’t have the range and I almost got stuck in the middle of the mountains.
Hyundai is killing it with the design lately, take notes BMW
Not here for a 17 minute commercial.
Rob getting faster, dropped a 38, bro has been training
I know your analogy of cars and music, but the major difference is, you can listen to your favorite old songs whenever. With the shift to cars becoming electric, our favorite cars are going to become less and less attainable
The Ioniq 5 N is a beast
Factory tires?
It doesnt seem at all like hyundai would try to force a stupid idea on me by really aggressive marketing
" Force " ? By... making something you can watch... or not ? Those monsters!
Imagine if all of the cars use Supersonic sound mode, the track will be full of sonic booms
Ask the Hyundai engineers to leave the sound profiles unencrypted by accident. A modded sound box would be so much fun 😂
Damnit you skipped the pro driver part on how to properly take the final turn. 😅
Sounds like RIIIIDDDGGE RACER on PS1, haha. These things are interesting for sure super sick
One of these in Canada ran over a small object with minimum damage but it nicked the battery they had to write the car off because they were quoted 61500 Canadian Dollars for a new battery this happened twice
One of these? Two of these? Also, the car costs about that much, the cost of the battery replacement is beaching between 11 and 15k USD. Get your story right, it sounds BS.
@@aserta agreed, this sounds like complete BS. There would have to have been way more damage to total it than just the battery packs
@@theheadone another canadian here, from western canada. this is in fact true. the owner noticed some issues and had the car towed to the dealer, the battery pack protective shield had minor damage and the dealer informed them the battery would need replacement. several other dealers were contacted and similar prices were given. the car was a 2022 model, and the price of a new battery pack with install was $60k, $10k more than the car cost new.
because the battery pack had physical external damage insurance got involved (here in bc we have a government run insurance monopoly called ICBC) and the vehicle was deemed a total loss and the owner paid out.
@@Sharkey_t That's crazy, it sounds like they just didn't want to deal with it so they set the price ridiculously high.
Is this track in G.T?
Yeah it’s like buying a house near an airport and complaining about the noise
as a child of the 80s and 90s; hyundai and kia will always and forever be piles of trash.
It's about time some of the bigger companies stopped trying to make all EV boring.

Mazda should let the 767, 787,787B and 792P do a 24 hour full send run there every week for the dumbass neighbours there.
Rob, a rotary swapped Hyundai when? 😂
Damn 😮
First they'll complain about noise. Next is the contract the track has with the state/county. Next is traffic.
@0.29 they paid you...
Hyundai is actually nice. I just disliked that weird speaker revving sound in the beginning, but during the track it didn't sound bad tbh. At the end you get a quick car with low center of gravity and maybe with awd that is quite good at a racing track...some ev's are really not that bad
Sounds like pixel car game engines 😂😂😂
This car from a distance looks like a GTI but had a collision that ripped off the bumpers
As far as electric goes, I am into these.
Got any 12 rotor news?
BeamNG had that engine sound before Hyundai.
I bet the kia boys waiting for this so they can steal this Korean beauty 😆
Hyundai is actually on point these days. i cant wait to get one of these
They should've refined the genesis coupe more
The problem with this car is the price, here in the Netherlands, it costs € 73.995 That is simple just to much. And not even a little bit to much...
The problem is the weight. 2235kg (4927lbs) is ludicrously heavy. This car is heavier than a goddamn Ford Bronco.
You know what, I’m not a Hyundai fan. BUT, this stuff they are producing is not only cool but trying to restart the performance market of cars once again. My one wish is that the car was a smaller hatchback, something GR Corolla looking. Anyhow, I’m glad Rob had a good time, and got some sponsorship money. Hope to see more rotor stuff soon!
As corny as the sound was it seemed very usable to learn to gauge your speed with.
But those poor rotors are going to need almost yearly replacements on any car that sees snow. The motors are doing so much of the braking, it’ll be hard to keep them from rusting.
Just like people who live in a golf course and piss and moan when a stray ball hits their property.
Is an electric rx seven now that would be cool 😎
The astronomical amount to change a battery out, nah bro I’m good.
how much does it cost then?
Why would you want to change one? They've already been proven to last a long time
It's 11 to 15 k quoted according to google on a 66kish car. Who pays you people?
Go look at the price for a drop in motor in any performance car that’s in this price/power range. Yeah, a hell of a lot more than a battery so what’s your point?
All the posters complaining the synthetic noise was bad.
IT WAS A JOKE
It's free, It's optional, You can turn it off or chose something else.

Karen's that buy houses next to something annoying to them and then try to shut it down should be used for science experiments.
Fake noise sounds worse than a cheap child's toy.
Unbelievable
You do know most expensive cars augment their engine sounds with speakers these days, right? The BMW M5, Ford Mustang, and Acura TLX, to name a few, use an active noise control system, which plays pre-recorded engine noises through speakers.
@@aserta yes indo know that.
The difference here is that the sound is worse than a cheap child's toy car.
Let me know what you're struggling to comprehend.
@@procatprocat9647 The difference? I see no difference. It's the same cheap child's toy car for all those brands (and more) given that if you shut down your speakers... you hear almost nothing from inside the car.
