- Christiaan van der Klaauw is a brand specialised in astronomical watches and for the great pleasure of a special collector they came with a bespoke watch integrating their miniature planetarium on the dial.

if I got this correctly it displays the movement of planets around the sun in real time and the last one takes 29,5 years to do a full circle?!
WOW!!! What kind of gearing does it need to have to make that possible?! it really blows my mind!!
Yep, pretty cool!!!
Thanks a lot Marc Andre for this wonderful coverage on the epic masterpiece watch from Christiaan Van Der Klaauw
Yes! Great brand! Wonderful couple that run the business! Would love to see more of these guys. Reasonably priced too in the watch world!
Will come I hope ;)
A great piece of art. Thank you so much for presenting this company that I never heard before. So freaking beautiful ❤❤❤
And there's much more to be seen with this brand!
Christiaan van der Klaauw never fails to amaze me. Great video and great to see they alway go for automatic watches.
Their watches tend to be less expensive than the other brands if I'm not mistaken.
For such complications and craftsmanship they are indeed well priced. All the best
One of my favorite brands, absolutely stunning unique dress pieces! I almost got the feeling this CEO was a little displeased to be answering questions however. Great video nonetheless!
I agree with you really really unique watch. I didn't know this brand but it has been a huge nice suprise. Great job with the video. And about the CEO .... yes he looked not very confortable with the Media, but he has been really polite and patient jajaja maybe he is only a little bit shy
I guess so, because I've met him many times and he is much more outspoken when you talk to him without a camera in his face ;)
Maybe because in English? Online video has really changed the game with regards to how CEOs should act. Too many people disagreeing with you personally and it harms the brand too. I try to be more forgiving with eccentric personalities if they produce great products.
The CEO is Dutch :)
vos vidéos sont trés intéressantes. Je les consulte très réguliérement. vous êtes toujours aux bons endroits, avec les bonnrs personnes et vos questions bien posées à propos. Mes remerciements
The only thing I want more than a bespoke timepiece is a bespoke automobile.
I have met Christiaan at BW 2016, have talked to him for 1 hour. Cool and down to earth guy, like all the Dutch
;)
van der klaauw to me is like a best kept secret in watchmaking! great astronomical watches!
Mark you should make a video only for your new 👓!😎
This will probably come, because they really seem to intrigue a lot of people ;) Best to you
WOW! stunning pieces! great reporting!
I never thought I would say these words but . . That rotor is beautiful!
Ephemeral design, logical analysis of the design aesthetic. Another interesting shoot with a compelling maker. Thanks! Certainly more to come. Your positioning of the usual behemoth brands with these niche watch artisans certainly separates WTV from the crowd. Great stuff, "MA!"
And you can go for MAD ;) thanks a lot!!!
Aye, aye, "MAD" Soon to be Hollywood Mover & Shaker MAD !
Would love to see b-roll of the assembly or a computer model showing the mechanism in action. I can only imagine what it takes to keep all those planets correctly aligned.
Magnificent piece!
Lovely dial engraving, one of the better works I have seen in engraving department . Certainly beats Lange engravings. Cute complication, but none of those orbits are perfectly circular. In a sense , visually it is pretty and amusing, but planet complication itself is very simple.
That's true but nevertheless something super cool I think, quite magical! Have a great day
Is there a video on Akrivia coming up ?
I am yet to see a video about this brand on youtube
Now that’s a complication! Sweet!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly sure CVDK usually use an ETA 2824-2 movement that have been heavily modified. Lovely watches too.
Yes you are right that is in my opinion not so good
AMAZING
incredible....
Anyone has any idea how precise they are in keeping daily time? How many seconds does it gain or looses? I got the idea that they can be very precise when I read about Real Moon getting a 1 day error in 11.000 years, but how does that craftmanship translates to daily measurements?
Has anybody made a moons of Jupiter complication? They visibly change their position daily so it might be an interesting "useless" feature on a watch.
I like your thinking ;)
It is a great piece of craftsmanship no doubt. yet as well as numerous independent watchmakers, this gentlemen also needs strong design support. It is impossible to read the time even though I enlarged the window full size in hd. Moreover, Choosing a dial character full open till the bezel and no reflector ring, at least fashion the hands in different colors for ex blue steel, black or chromium. Hands are so confused with the arrow and the bow engravement in the back side. But great complication, great concept.
wow, quá đỉnh ❤️❤️❤️
How come you've found out my new timepiece Marc??
April's fool!! LOL
Nice piece! Will try to discover its lucky owner here in Dubai
Good hunt ;)
Marc, are you guys back in the office. Making sure you received my video for the road trip.
On our way back today!! But still plenty videos coming... And we'll indeed check all the videos received in the next days. Best to you
He speaks englisch like louis van gaal. I think.
That seemed like a real uncomfortable interview! You had to really force him to give you more than one word answers to your questions. Well done after all. Very impressive timepieces.
I know what you mean and I think it was the camera that triggered this, because he's a really nice and smiling chap otherwise!
What about Pluto?! To me, Pluto will always be a planet.
Too long around the sun apparently for a wrist watch ;)
I think the technical limitations that Daniel mentioned could be overcome if the planets' movement would be segmented in the number of years they take. So Pluto would do either ~250 clicks, or a multiple of that, but still show it's relative position, only with slightly less precision. Point is, it ain't a technically impossible achievement.
It takes 248 years for Pluto to make a full circle anyway
Jim Morrison's son: when the music's over turn out the lights
Were you guys drinking before the interview with the Swiss girls? bro seems drunk
Donnie like!
Seems like van der Klaauw has some work to do on his english and PR skills. Still deserves respect for developing this movement, although I prefer it inside VC&A's Midnight Planetarium. Anyone know how they went about calculating gear ratios and such to make the planetarium as accurate as possible?
That's really a subject I would love to go more in the details of.
Perhaps a future video? Personally, I'm dying to learn more about the technical aspects of making unconventional watches like this
well we know that he's dutch....
yeah, make that the cat wise..
Brecht Transt he speaks with a little dutch accent a little bit.
Christian does not sound or act like a nice man, however his timepieces are works of magnificence and beauty, simply astonishing.

Questions on winding mechanisms were unprofessional.
It is a rather unknown brand, so the questions are not exactly "out of the ballpark". I did like the explanation of why it is important to be automatic. But it does feel like the interviewer had trouble doing the job.
I really don't like the attitude of this guy nor his looks!
He's got a condescending tone. Don't like him.
Disappointing spokesman , 0 coherence .
On the other hand when it comes to the watch itself ... well the engraving is exceptional , but honestly the overall esthetics is dull and mechanical concept has already been done in so many more watches before
