    As a Czech, that was really interesting for me to see your reaction. I would never think of someone speaking english will play this it czech language. For us who grew up with the original, the english version completely loses kind of deepnes in the voices which means some of the characters almost blending together. That might be one of the reasons why this game mean so much to us.
    Keep up the good work :)

      Hele, ale už dříve se sháněly české verze hry, dokonce mám pocit, že se tam kdysi snažil někdo udělat nějaký mód, co nahradí české titulky těmi anglickými, jenže tam byly nějaké nesrovnalosti a snad to tenkrát ani nebylo dokončeno. Ale už tehdy projevovali zahraniční hráči zájem o českou verzi. Teď je to naštěstí snadnější, když si lze navolit jakýkoli jazyk a titulky :)

      @@Kristyna_Sulkova Moc se nedivím. U český jsou prostě emoce, hlavně když se Salieri nasere. Zatímco u anglický to zní jako by jenom četli ze skriptu a občas i mluví přes sebe, asi proto že EN časování bylo dělaný podle češtiny

      @Kristyna_Sulkova Před 3 lety

      @@dustojnikhummer Zrovna to, co zmiňuješ, mělo údajně i přímo ve scénáři zdůrazněno, že je Salieri tak moc bez sebe, až mu na konci toho řevu vyletí slina z úst (dle jednoho starého rozhovoru). Evidentně to tam pak nezakomponovali, ale vzhledem k tomu Molčíkově výstupu si to člověk dokáže živě představit, v angličtině nikoli. Každopádně angličtina je druhý originál, oni si jeli taky podle sebe, češtinu neslyšeli. Originály jsou tedy v podstatě dva, první český a druhý anglický originál, anglický vznikl nezávisle na tom českém, proto je tak odlišný, a tedy pak i ostatní jazyky, které měly za vzor právě angličtinu. A lip-sync byl automatický přes program.

    As Dan Vávra said - Antonín Molčík as Salieri and Marek Vašut as Tommy was the best voice actors to work with. They was in studio till night time and tried to understand those characters and made best job they could. RIP Antonín Molčík.
    About half of Czech Voice actors returned to remake, but those voices are quite old now. But great anyway. So we have same Tommy, Paulie, Sam, Frank and det. Norman, but different Salieri, Sarah, Ralph, Vinnie and Luigi. Even tho Ralph sound same as original.

    Never thought I'd see this on the channel :-D . As somebody who played Mafia only in Czech hearing their English versions is....weird. You can tell that the Czech version was the main focus, English versions seem to me like the lack emotions and less reflect the situations they're in. But it's a very good thing that there's an English version, so more people can experience it. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to Remake voices. Most of the same voice actors are back, which is awesome for us Czech fans :-D , makes it even more nostalgic.

      Mafia 1 was made by a small independend studio in czech republic.They had really small budget and it shows in some parts (especially dubing). Also, voice actors had to use their own imagination (mostly), they didn't have those cutscenes, but only sript on paper.

      The studio wasnt that small, at least for its time, it already had a few successful titles on its name, the budget was also OK, I mean they got quite some voices into the game for both the English and Czech versions, as for the dub itself, yea they didnt have the cutscenes, but they had good direction, at least for the Czech version, where the devs did the directing themsleves. The main focus of the game was for foreign market.

    OK, I played both versions many, many, many years ago... OK, nearly 21 years ago (that makes wanna cry). My favorite voiceovers are the original Czech and the Definitive Edition English voiceovers. Although, they really messed up the recording of Sam's lines. It sounds like they recorded them in an untreated room. The English version has a way better sound mix and better clarity. The old Czech version lacks clarity but has a lot of character. Especially when the characters are shouting at each other. It really does feel like there's a distance between them.

    Before remake I wanted to finish Mafia 1 again... and because I already played it multiple times in Czech I wanted to go thru in English... however the obvious lack of passion and emotion in voice over turned me off and I have to switch it to Czech again...

    Now... I'm actually sorry for you not understanding it. I have realized, that the czech dabing is much richer in terms of vocabulary. It uses words, that underline the story and the characters in a spot-on way, and it uses much more vocal expression, making the game emotional and movie-like. I think you could feel that. Plus there are a few catchphrases, that I'm propably gonna remember for the rest of my life. The english version felt kinda robotic to me... Remember, this is just how I feel about it. I don't mean to swank, it's just one of those things every Czech gamer should be proud of. Peace!

    Hey Roxy, the main point might be. Voice acting in CZ at that time was pretty in good shape. Not like nowadays. But the new voiceover might be the same for the main characters (same actors). Vavra (writer) told that his main vision of the story was re-written. His main story point was that friendship in mafia just sucks and they will betray each other once it just starts going down. Not like in the rewritten version.

    The thing is, it seems like the voice acting on the English version was weird. Dan Grimaldi played Frank, and Matt Servitto played Sam. I know both of them from The Sopranos, and neither of them sound like they do on the show, even though Dan Grimaldi plays almost the same character.
