The new star has already risen.. Parker Valby Please do a story on her as no one stays on top forever. Congrats to Tuohy in a superb high school and college career getting pushed and pushing others to greatness.
Great video. I Love Katelyn Tuohy and have for several year's now. I look forward to seeing her continued progression and cheering her on at the professional level. Big Fan! ❤
I'll say it.. Love PRE... & I'm putting Katelyn in the same elite class BUT... I know what fuels her & I pray when all is said & done she is ok mentally. That is my hope.... Awesome Katelyn!!
FYI I am a huge KT fan and have followed her career from a young age (around 14 ish) Change Title to : Greatest AMERICAN High School Cross-Country runner. She is no where near to being the Greatest ever. There are numerous runners from outside the USA that are MUCH better performed in Cross Country at younger ages. In much higher levels of competition. Including Zola Budd from South Africa who won TWO World Senior (not just High School or Junior) CC Titles ate the age of 19 and 20. As a teenager she won numerous titles at High School level, in South Africa. It could be argued that even Mary Slaney from USA, a running prodegy in her teenage years before breaking numerous World Records on the Track, performed better in XC as a High Schooler.
I just watched this for about the fourth time and I congratulate you on your very nuanced and insightful analysis of KT's cross career. The only bone I have to pick is you could have doubled the length (granted with much more work) and covered her indoor and outdoor exploits between winning the NCAA outdoor 5000 in 2022 to breaking Simpson's 2009 5000 on May 6, 2023 with 15:03. During that time, setting indoor collegiate records in the 1500, mile and 3000 and the outdoor 5000 plus winning the indoor 3k and 5k NCAA champs, with her 2022 XC individual stuck in there too, possibly the greatest year and a half stretch of any collegiate runner except, maybe, Jenny Simpson, several of whom's records Katelyn beat. We'll get to see what Parker accomplishes in the next six months, but I doubt she will eclipse KT's overall achievement. I'm afraid she will once again break down. But maybe not. Good luck to both of them and I hope we see a couple of head-to-heads during the 2024 indoor and outdoor seasons.
011624 Just watched this for about the tenth time and I am still discovering nuance and depth in your scripting and production values. Your work is a palliative to those of us suffering Tuohy Withdrawal Syndrome, and the proof is that I have to watch your vid when it shows up in my feed, every single time. So what's next? I'm hoping KT goes to Millrose, although it could prove a PR setback notwithstanding the result, even if it hit a personal goal. If she is working toward the Olympic Trials, it would probably be pointless to push it now. But, it's a guess what her fitness and sharpness is right now relevant to where she wants to be this summer. Listen to the Boss Lady, Katelyn, and no sneaking in rogue Sunday afternoon 15 milers, if the Boss Lady said take the day off.
OK. '22 XC '23 indoor was Touhey. '23 Outdoor was a split Touhey N Valby. '23 XC is Valby. Can we agree it is to early to say who is better. If we go to cumulative results NCAA I give the edge to Touhey. Hopefully we can look forward to a great rivalry.
Students of XC and track will talk about KT forever, just as we still remember Mary Cain, Jenny Simpson, Mary Decker Slaney and other greats. Now we get to see her earn her chops as a pro. Who can say what will come next? Check in same time in 2028 and we'll see what Katelyn is doing.
Good point. There are comments on some of the non-CZcams blogs that her performance in the 2023 outdoors, Nutty and the NCAA champs prove KT has reached the end of the line. I say bullshit. But if I were advising KT (actually, peripherally, I am-- somebody in her entourage is reading what I'm writing) I would try to damp the natural enthusiasm and motivation to try for the Paris games. Think about the truly epic possibilities of testing her unresolved rivalry with PV. For once I would say to these brilliant artists of the most difficult of all the endeavors of athletics, commit to competing this winter and spring head to head and both will profit mightily, in self growth, contractual value, and in NCAA legend and lore. In high school XC history, think about the intense fight between Katelyn and Kelsey, through out their girl years, and here they are apparently roommates and fast friends, probably lifetime friends. There is much to be gained by engaging in personal combat with Parker, much more than because NCAA rules say it is possible.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!! Was just speaking with others about her using her eligibility and staying at NCSU another year and going after Sisson and Simpson's records while getting stronger. 2024 is simply too soon for KT to attempt a Olympic bid. Battling with Parker another year, assuming she stays at Florida, would be big for both heading to the Professional ranks. If I were her parents, I would definitely push her to consider staying if it was in her heart. That's also a conversation to be had with the potential coach and group she would be possibly heading to to train with after college. Many dynamics for sure. It's so exciting to have PV and KT in our stable of Elite American women and I just hope the powers around them, offer the best advice for both to accel without the outside interference and hubris about what others have done. Your post is Spot On! @@Philobiblion
Excellent, and truly deep dive into KT. Who knows what's next? If she goes pro now, sticks with Adidas and moves out to Flagstaff at 6900 feet, or wherever, to train with her friend and coach's daughter Elly Henes, could she qualify for Paris? I don't think so, because we have an extremely strong US class of pro middle distance runners like Monson, Morgan, Cranny and Henes; any of whom could beat KT in a time trial on a given day, right now. I have always thought the '24 Paris dream was a pipe dream. If she has not already reached the pinnacle of her achievement, and she does continue with a slow, incremental development tested at well-chosen events, then she could have an outside chance at a medal in '28. But at what event? The 5000? I doubt it. 1500? Also unlikely. So, that means at this point in her career she is focusing on the considerable, and to many, consummate achievement of merely being an Olympian: representing our country on the premier international stage, a great honor, but hardly substance or succor to her myriad fans. Honestly, I wish she would graduate next month, apply for grad classes and apply to Henes for a grad assistantship in the athletics department while continuing to train with the girls, benefit from the world class staff and facilities and use her remaining eligibility head to head with the best of NCAA including Parker, in winter and spring 2024. Watching a real rivalry between Katelyn and Parker unfold would be unparalleled drama for women's athletics. It would not hurt either KT's or PV's NIL deals either, and I think would strengthen their contract logistics when eventually turning pro.
Uh oh, Katelyn chose North Carolina STATE, not North Carolina…. That might seem like a small, negligible difference. However, UNC and NCSU are rivals, so I have a feeling a few people might be a little mad at in the comments section hahah 😬😂
what's this now/? Katelyn Tuohy again?? OMG yes... such a littel cross-country celbrity i meant to say.... but today is new years eve & me & my family go on "Sunday Road Trips" where we go to all these little-ol corner filling stations in these little ol one horse bible belt towns out here in corn-field country-girl land i mean... and we get our bags of chips & our ice cold sodi-pops & drive around out in the country so i don't have much time to watch these today...er? i mean? plus it's new years eve tonight too & i imagine the agency is gonna drag me kicking & screaming into St. Louis tonight so everyone have a blessed day & new years i mean.
I believe her secret, which is surprisingly similar to Parker's, is to spend more time in the gym than running. The reason so many high school phenoms fade when they get to college is the unspeakable truth of biology. Girls turning into women naturally put on weight. Precipitating an eating disorder to stay competitive inevitably leads to disaster: look at Mary Cain. Katelyn's secret is maintaining a high strength to weight ratio. If you look at pictures of her you can see amazing muscular definition. As long as she maintains that strength, and, when she eventually starts training at altitude, she will continue to improve. I hope she continues to have the mental strength that allows her to train and race at the highest level.
Those of us who appreciate talent and gutsy performances know exactly who both of them are. Why discredit either one of them when they are both phenomenal runners?
Small tidbit, I love that Kelsey and Katelyn have been around together for so long. I hope they go pro together
It would surprise me. Kelsey is very keen on attending veterinary school. She just HAPPENS to be one of the greatest American runners.

Amazing video as always
She has absolutely immaculate running form. A joy to just watch her move.
Your videos are the best!
Great video! It be awesome if KT got to keep her high school/middle school coaches. They seemed to understand her training and got results
Wonderful video

Well, Elizabeth Leachman has arrived
Yeah , but right now it’s the Parker Valby Show🥴... Don’t think anybody is talking about 3 yrs ago.... Did you watch Nuttycomb and the ncaa last week🐊

5th place, starting sick was a monster performance at 2023 NCAA CC.
