French Toast - You Suck at Cooking (episode 116)

- French toast is one of the most popular things to eat in France, in some people's minds I'm pretty sure. All it takes is egg, bread, some other stuff, and a bit of confidence to make you feel like you're eating breakfast on the other side of the Atlantic. Unless you're already on the other side, in which case, welcome home.

RECIPE
Throw your bread around somebody’s apartment and let it sit and get stale over night,
Or don’t because who plans on making French toast the next day?
You do. So throw that bread around the apartment.
Good breads for French toast include: brioche, Challah, French, artisan white bread, sandwich bread, some other kind of white bread, , and bread that is white
Then take:
2 large eggs
3/8 cup of milk
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Wangjangle into a smoothie and pour it into a hubcap
Then dip your bread for somewhere between 1 and 30 seconds and flip it and dip it again for somewhere between 2 and 29 seconds
Put your pan on medium
Melt butter and if you want you can add vegetable oil because it will raise the burning point of the butter so it’s a good idea if you’re making a lot of French toast
Then throw the French toast around the apartment to really show everyone who’s the boss of this joint and squirt maple syrup everywhere as well

Genuinely thinking about YSAC as a real human being with emotions and a life instead of an obscure, omnipotent entity with infinite knowledge to the universe who just so happens to have a cooking channel unnerves me in a way that I can't explain.
It helps to think of YSAC as a character independent of the true person running the show to prevent the cognitive dissonance between divine intellect and simple mortality.

I live in France, I am French and this is the first time that I do not jump to the ceiling when I see a CZcamsr making French toast ... yet my grandmother never used to put these nails, screws etc ;-)
But thank you from the bottom of my heart for respecting our grandmother's recipe. For the record in France we don't call it French taost (we're not chauvinist at this point anyway) but here we call it pain perdu : lost bread.
Because grandmothers didn't throw away dry bread. , they made a great dessert. And it's even better when made with leftover brioche ...

"Pain perdu" in France is mostly the same recipe and is used with old bread, thus the name which means lost bread.
Glad to see that there are other variations of this recipe. We rarely use cinnamon in France, I should give it a try next time.

You can see that he was tired after putting all those screws in the bread. he didn't do the epic chorus outrosong he usually does.
The simple beauty of the intro was the only thing holding me together, just the assuring voice that I, just a simple man was sucking at cooking. I knew this, but did I really trust myself with this knowledge? I needed a sign, When the last couple of episodes were void of this intro that was the only identifying item for my status as a chef. I can assure you that others may feel the same, and we’re mourning the loss of our beloved intro. It seemed as if Jesus Christ had risen, as the lovely and upbeat melody of our most beloved intro rang through our ears, after such an abrupt hiatus. Thank you, and bless YSAC. Amen.

I litterally searched for the recipe for french toast YESTERDAY and was vastly disappointed that i didnt see ysac, but i guess the cooking god heard my prayers after all
Every time I made french toast, the eggs would get cooked and I’d end up with sweets eggs attached to bread. I don’t know what I did wrong 😭
I'm guessing not enough milk plus make sure you really wangjangle it good. I had a couple more eggy ones as well so I milked it down more

Also make sure that you let the bread soak in the mixture a little bit. Doesn’t have to be too long or you’ll end up with bread pudding though... But not only will the eggs not become eggs, the center will be some melt in your mouth deliciousness

In french, French toast is called "Pain perdu" so litterally "lost toast", I was expecting a joke on that so hard and I didn't get one.

Here in Finland we call this "köyhät ritarit" which means "poor knights". No idea where that comes from.
In Romanian we call it pâine cu ou ,which means bread with egg . No idea where that comes from either

Also fun fact: "German Toast" also was used as a name in english-speaking countries for quite a while, no idea why it's now associated with france (but then again, french fries aren't french either, so maybe making things more french is just an american habit).

putting sugar in the egg mixture gives a nice caramelization on the french toast as well as wastes sugar because some of it doesnt dissolve
