The police need to be held responsible. 77 minutes to engage the shooter? I'm not a parent but this just devastated me.
I am not a parent either, but we do have beating hearts.
This was heartwrenching already, but now knowing that they waited 77 minutes is just insane. Those poor kids never had a chance, the LE failed these poor babies and teachers!!!😭😭😭😭 Its about like letting a wild lion or tiger go into a cage and maul everyone for 77 minutes before stopping it. Smh

I think we should be upset about gun reform. Blame the politicians. Not the officers, teachers, families, etc. We are only bystanders and we have a voice that’s strong enough to project the bigger picture. Don’t speak out of anger. Use that anger where it counts.
Please think. What are you rushing into and where? You are unarmed and rushing in, who do you shoot? Where do you go? You become a casualty and now in the way or they have to rescue you.
I know the pain of losing a child to violence. When I got there I didn't know who did what. Was my child dead? Who to check with. It is a nightmare of emotions.
I believe teachers should be allowed to conceal carry. You trust these people everyday with your child, but won't trust them to protect them in the event of someone rushing into the classroom to kill them. These are the most vulnerable people. These cowards pick these places to attack. They attack Innocent children. Why isn't there someone there with a gun to protect them? Unions, parents anti-gun lobbyist etc... ask them.

I’m a teacher, I’d love to homeschool and teach kids in their home. Going to school may disappear soon. After Covid kids have been home for a long time, at least that was safer. Now they know what it is to be home and studying online, at least they’re SAFE.Wven though kids didn’t get contact hours and missed out on learning and social time, but THEY WERE ALIVE. Learned a bit less , fell a year behind but they were home with family.

Imagine being a child and being terrified of something as simple as going to school. Some children can’t even go outside and play because of high crime in their own neighborhoods, now it seems they aren’t safe at school either. My heart is with these families. I am so sorry 💔💔
As a former certified police officer out of manatee county Florida, we were trained to go in and stop further action by a subject who is a active shooter utilizing deadly force immediately. I am absolutely gutted the chief of police and officers alike did not make the right calls here. I do thank the USA border officers ignoring the chief refusing his orders going into the school to take the proper actions. In my opinion, the chief needs to be terminated and arrested held accountable on 21 counts of involuntary manslaughter charges just based on his call alone misguiding his officers. The officers should be made to do a mandatory *non paid* retraining course for their failure to override the chiefs orders in which each officer could of done the moment reports came in regarding anyone shot as deadly force was indeed justified at that time forward. The school resource officer on duty should be terminated instantly and face accountability much like the chief also.
Children should feel safe always at school and never face such terrible situations. As a father and as mentioned a former law enforcement officer. My heart much like the world's is broken over this situation may all impacted regardless if you known those murdered say prayers for all those whom lost loved ones of these little angels and may they rest in peace. Send condolences to the families as well.
Was this shooting planned by people in high positions who want to ban then Second Amendment (the right to bear arms) ? Were the cops following orders to not intervene or allow anyone else to intervene while the massacre was being carried out? How many people (including children) get killed each year by knives and blunt objects? Let's ban knives and blunt objects.
In countries (like Latin American countries) where they make it very difficult for the average person to get gun permits, crime is rampant. The criminals can easily acquire guns but the decent people can't, therefore they have no way to defend themselves. Great for the criminals.

It is much appreciated and I feel the same way about the situation on wishing that I was present to save lives much as you did during your deployment overseas. You and other service members of all branches has my deepest respect as Americas heros. It was just my public service with the oath I taken to serve those within my chosen county. The phrase *to protect and serve* is what I felt my calling was much like your was with *Semper Fideles as in Always faithful* .

Whoever made the decision to delay breaching that classroom needs to be fired and fired quickly. Even if there hadn't been phone calls coming from inside the classroom (which there were), any rational thinking person would proceed on the possibility that children might still be alive and/or in need of medical attention and not simply assume that everyone was already dead. Not meaning to pile on law enforcement because it was an incredibly chaotic and stressful situation, but you just can't afford to mess up on something that basic when the stakes are that high....
My son last day of school was last Thursday 2 days after the shooting, I didn’t want my son to go to school. It hurts everyone.

I don’t think age has any factor on mental illness or Psychosis. I agree that an 18 year old should not own a semi-automatic rifle, nor any citizen for that matter. They really have no use besides gun shows and for recreational uses on a range or your property. You can’t use them to hunt, you shouldn’t need to use one on an intruder if you have a shotgun or handgun. I do think it is a little ridiculous that I have to be 21 to purchase a handgun for my home, or concealed carry, being a young woman living on her own in our world now is dangerous. But, I only have to be 18 to buy a much more dangerous weapon that has rapid fire. We need to restrict out gun laws with common sense, background checks and mental health evaluations every year. It’s quick, it’s effective and it saves lives. The gun laws we have in place make zero sense, and I don’t think age has a factor. A person can be 18 or 25, if they want to kill, they will. It’s not the gun that’s dangerous, it’s the person with their finger on the trigger.

To edit this, why is it that when I turn 18 I can go into the military and use even deadlier weapons under the age of 21? They have background checks and mental evaluations as well, to be able to use these weapons during training. So the problem doesn’t seem to be age, it seems to be the lack of important restrictions and requirements for owning a gun.

She was on the ground crying her eyes out while two people were comforting her, and the cops were literally just standing there while her daughter was killed. It seems to me that the only thing they needed was the courage to go in and get the boy, but it also seems they were cowards. Instead of doing what they were supposed to do they were more worried about saving their own skins instead of the children's lives.
Now the excuses are coming for their lack of courage, and they are trying to save their reputations.
It's just horrific what those beautiful innocent children had to endure. Sadly, I just don't know if there was anything else that the police could have done differently, because at the end of the day, when police officers are faced with DEATH, I just feel that it comes down to whether or not they are willing to die to protect the lives of others. It's difficult to imagine the decision that each officer must make under those circumstances and the fear of never seeing their own children and families. You have to ask yourselves, are these officers willing to put their life at risk or sacrifice their life to save another person. All I know, is that as a mother of a beautiful 2 year old little boy, I can say for certain, that I would do anything, anything, anything, to protect my little boy, even if I have to sacrifice my life to save my child, you better believe that I would do just that without hesitation. But what everyone needs to understand, is that the LOVE of a MOTHER or FATHER is far greater than ANYTHING else. I assure you that all those parents that lost their babies to this terrible tragedy, if given the opportunity, they would have stormed in that school without thinking twice to rescue their beautiful child- risking it all. That is the saddest part of all. These parents were deprived of their natural instinct to save their child. That in itself, is simply heartbreaking.
Those aren’t my children. Those aren’t my neighbors. I live many states away. But I would have rushed in because it’s the right thing to do.

When we get married and have kids, we are signing up to take care of our children-raise them, love them, and protect them the best we can. However, sometimes the police have to help us-in this miserable logistical nightmare, they messed up. No place for cowards on the police force.

They should never have waited so long to go inside. This happened at my sons high school 2x. There was several ways to get in the school. As we parents spread the news. We stormed the doors, grabbed our kids & got out of there. Every school should have a plan for parents to rescue thier children cause we know we can't depend on anyone else! Only a parent will risk thier life to save thier child's life.
