    HISD. Where the kids graduate at a rate of 30% . THAT is why the State has to take over.

      What is the states graduation rate for the schools they run? How many schools has the state successfully turned around? Different doesn't mean better, this is just a way to take local control from voters, and people stand behind it because it is the party they support doing it.

      Some of the poor performance is on the hands of educators but the majority of accountability resides on The Students and the parents.

      Our people need to start homeschooling our kids and teaching them real black history. Black history is world history.

    If those principals have been there for years and they have been inefficient in doing their jobs to educate and prepare our children for the future. They deserved to be fired. Enough games have been played with our tax dollars and education already. Enough!

    When they change HISD to charter schools, I hope the community insists on those corporations be non profits so you can really tell who is there to educate the kids and not just make money.

    The state does have the power to take over local govt including school districts, but that should only be done in emergencies, in which total failure is taking place, as a kind of rescue. Why was this necessary? What had gone wrong, if anything? Those aspects should have been discussed on this interview.

    Long time for such changes to have been made decades ago;
    HISD schools are part of the input funnel into the prison complex, by awful teaching standards, unqualified teachers and lowering standards.
    The educators and principals are incompetent and it’s high time the trash was taken out.
    Kudos to Mr Miles for making these changes!!
