    First of all, comparing a 19” to a 21” in a head to head shootout shows a level of understanding that even your son probably questioned you on. You can’t fix stupid 2+2 equals chocolate. Second of all giving stars for things that are more similar than different just to apply more stars to the echo takes me back to 1st grade school when the teacher gave special kids a star for putting there lunch in the correct cubicle with there name on it. Third, if your just mowing a normal front and backyard who cares how long it takes to recharge the battery because you will be done mowing until next week and you probably have a second battery for your weed eater you can use if you run out before your done. Lastly, if anything your comparison sold me on the stihl because it’s just as good and costs less and so does the weed eater that uses the same battery over me buying the 21” 510 and weed eater. Thanks

    The switch on the Stihl is not an on/off switch for the mower. It's for the ECO function. When enabled, it reduces RPMs for short and thin grass. That makes the battery last longer.

      I was going to mention that too…also the one compartment only stores a battery on the Stihl…they both don’t provide power to the mower

    You know the Shill has a 510 model with a 21 inch deck and 1 hour charge time.

    I've had my echo push mower for over 15 years. The appearance is nearly identical to the new one. The only problem is that I have worn the wheel bearings out. This video came up when shopping for replacement wheels. The battery seems to have a fraction less run time than when it was new, but it still lasts long enough to mow the whole yard.

    On off switch on the Stihl is actually used to set Eco mode on or off.
    Should have done a bit more reading on the Stihl

      Agreed not a good comparison. Definitely biased for the Echo product.

      Maybe he was basing it on price point, not deck and battery size? I thought that too when I started watching it, but likely the results wouldn’t have changed…I mean, the channel is called ECHO Means Business…so kind of tells you what you need to know

    Great video!! Man, what a tough decision! They both look like great options! I would probably go with the ECHO.
    1. Battery charge time
    2. Lifetime Warranty on the deck
    3. A little wider cut

    • @scotteger6271
      @scotteger6271 Před rokem

      I think for most people the decision is going to hinge on availability, as well as what else you might plan on buying. The battery on the Echo is pretty big, comparable to Stihl’s AP battery which they use on the RMA 510. If you’re looking at adding a trimmer or a blower, the battery size and weight might make the difference

      I live in a very moist sea climate, and steel decks rust like crazy. I would really prefer a plastic deck, but I am going to buy the Stihl anyhow. Echo is not sold in New Zealand, where I live.

      @@fmueller1 It's very wet here too so I just wire brush and oil base paint the under side of decks when they start rusting. Good for several seasons.

    Very helpful video. I really like Echo products. I own the gas powered trimmer and blower. I also own a gas powered Airens, the last of the classic professional models. I will likely buy an Echo with the extra larger batteries for my wife as she struggles with the Ariens. I have lots of lawn to go around for cutting. 😀

    I think I would give the Echo the green star for the individually adjustable wheels; as long as the front of the mower can get closer to obstacles.

    • @cptbardo
      @cptbardo Před 3 lety

      I've had the Echo for several years now. I have about 12k sq ft of bermuda to mow and it's worked well. But in my third year I started having issues with the batteries. Since the cells are packed so tightly and have no airflow, they have a tendency to overheat. If I use a battery and then throw it on the charger immediately, it can end up taking 8+ hours to charge because it constantly hits thermal limits. It actually ends up being faster to let them cool after using them before putting them on the charger.
      I'm certain that the poor thermal design affects their longevity. After 3 years, 2 of my 4AH batteries and a 2AH had all failed. I was able to get them replaced under warranty, but that doesn't bode well for the future.
      I really wish they would have just put a grill on the battery case and used a fan on the mower and the charger to blow air across them to keep the temps down. That one design element would have made these products an instant recommend from me. But as they are now, I worry about what's going to happen in year5 when I lose the warranty.

  • @bretthannah1132
    @bretthannah1132 Před 3 lety +9

    I like how you claim to be unbiased yet you compare a 19” stihl to a 21” echo, despite the fact that there’s a 21” stihl available. There’s obviously going to be a difference in performance when you’re not comparing an equivalent product..

  • @juliel220
    @juliel220 Před 3 lety +4

    still has a STEEL deck. and they have a larger mower available.

  • @victoryvisiontour
    @victoryvisiontour Před rokem +2

    Don't make your buying decision based on this video. It's very biased. 19" vs 21" deck is not an equal comparison. Area mowed in 5 mins with different decks sizes is meaningless. 40 seconds more runtime has absolutely no discernable difference in the real world. Battery charge time for Stihl 21" is only 1 hour. The switch under the battery cover on the Stihl is for eco mode not on/off. Both are great mowers. Watch other videos before making the decision which one is right for you.

  • @lewiemcneely9143
    @lewiemcneely9143 Před rokem +1

    Why not get the Stihl 20 inch and even it out and charging time for the Stihl is 1 hour. too. And the Stihl has the Economy mode that runs at a slower speed when extra power isn't needed to conserve battery life. It might've made a lot of difference in run time if it'd been on. You might ought to get your facts straight with your tests. I owned BOTH Echo and Stihl machines and BOTH have served me well BUT I ALSO have an 85 model SNAPPER that is my standby machine and still starts 2nd pull. STILL runs fine after all these years with the OEM engine. WE'll see how these electric jobs stack up against tried and true. And I'd rather have a steel deck if I ever hit something and the blade slings it.
