- Join me as I share my favorite bands and albums from my teenage years in the 1980s using only physical media like vinyl records, cassettes and magazines. I’ll also share some fun stories related to this music and what it was like growing up and being a music fan in a world of limited media and technology.

The fact that you still have Stephanie's record in mint condition waiting for her is awesome
you mean squeek??
Squeek😂😂
Squeek's*
"hell fvcking cool" 🤣
Len is aging better than Ralph Macchio from Cobra Kai...
From karate kid 1984*
Besides probable genetics, he seems like a laid back dude who isn't under chronic stress.
Len would have been fun to have in my class when I was in High School.
He should be Ralph was born in 1961 & Len was born in 1970. So that’s what ELEVEN (11) years younger than Ralph?🤨 Yeah, I’d say he’s aging better by a whole decade! ✌🏻
Where you into groups like Voivod or World War Three?
I was born in 71, this is exactly how my life played out musically too. I became a guitarist for 33 years!
🤘🤘🤘
I was Born in 1970, and for me it started in 1984 - 85. But Didn't start watching MTV & getting into Metal until 1986.
I do Reviews & stories too. Guys like this just remind me of how i got into Metal slightly too late. But has been a Huge part of my Life for many years
Dude, you've had Squeek's Queensrÿche record for almost half a century I don't know whether I should laugh or cry 😭😂😭😂
Great Video Len 😉! Born in 1972 here 😊
My 11yo daughter calls me old and rolls her eyes when I talk about those wonderful 1980’s
But when you look around these kids today are copying just about every bit of it…. I taught I would never see the day when the Mullet would make his return 🤩 I got mine cut off all the way back when Hair Care Harmony was still in business…. I love the feel of your small town I was born in Cleveland Ohio and my parents moved us to Piedmont Alabama when I was around 13 and talk about culture shock 😔 there was no hard rock not even light rock I remember putting on MTV and David Lee Roth video on there and my grandma walking in and about had a heart attack lol especially when he was shaking his goods in the camera…
Keep up the good work and helping us remember those great memories my friend.
In 1988 I was 16, turning 17 and my best friend, and fellow high school drop out, worked in a little gas station booth. We used to have like 8 under-age friends drinking beer, smoking, etc. in that little booth. Imagine walking up to pay for your gas and there's like 8 teenage metal head stoners partying, and playing metal in the tiny booth. People, understandably, looked freaked out. One time, we were all drunk and decided to cover the front glass window with spitballs. When a nice, young teen girl came up to pay, my friend stumbled forward, and wiped off all of the pitfalls, and was standing there in a cloud of smoke! He was "Hey man, how can I help?" The girl, seeing all of us stoners partying, just laughed and paid for her gas, and was like "party on gentlemen". One friend got her number, running out the back door or the little booth.
Hell yeah!! I love this!!
@@LenEnders We are very close in age. Your videos bring back so many good memories of my life - I feel like I knew you, even though I was in Manassas, Virginia, with my single, alcoholic mother, in a degenerate trailer park! My redneck neighbors would "tell on me" to my mother, after she would go out of town and I had friends over. Thank you for the nearly endless supply of great video footage! Peace
@@LenEndersDid you ever have a kick on FireHouse or Night Ranger?? I sure as hell did!!
@@soaringnewengland1970 both actually!!
@@LenEndersThat’s awesome!!! You should do a collection video of all the 80s stuff you’ve collected…
Born '65 first year Xer! You are spot on.. StonR 80s was the best time ever!
My dad was born in 1970, he was a teenager in the mid to late 80’s he loved every kind of 80’s music, from pop, rock, new wave and heavy metal, he bought albums and shirts, and taped the music videos off of MTV, some of his favourite 80’s bands and artists were Billy Idol, Prince, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna (who he had a huge crush on) Duran Duran, Van Halen, Motley Crüe and Guns n Roses, just to name a few
First concert for me in 7th grade was Priest with Great White opening! Defenders Of The Faith tour.
DUUUUUDE!!!!! You still have that Motley Crue album with the Pentagram on the cover? SWEEEEET!!!! I had it also at the time, but then one day my little brother broke the album so when I went to go and buy another I could only find the album with the newer cover on it. Couldn't find the Pentagram one anywhere. So good to see it again. Great album that I still listen to today.
@@AwesomeGenX 🤘🤘🤘🤘
You should do a collaboration with Eric and Darrell. You guys are awesome. So answer a burning question. What are some of the bands that you re-discovered in the late 90s early 2000s that you didn't remember from the 1980s that you fell in love with?
Examples for me: Babylon AD, Trouble Tribe, Roxus, Helix, and Sweet FA to name a few.
Born in 2001 but have had many similar experiences with the same bands. Love this video and all the old clips/albums.
Very Good video, I regret Cutting up My Hit Parader & Circus Magazines, But i had to put pictures on my Wall.
Love the Judas Priest Poster in the background, speaking of them, I am going to see them live next year in April! 🤘🤘
I lived in a small town in Iowa in the 80's and we had MTV; I can't believe you lived the 80's without MTV!!!
Man your dad sounds like fun and cool dude
I have all those magazines still the metal ones
I will tell you about CIRCUS mag I started to subscribe to it in 1985 of June and I still have them all with acid free backing boards and bags from those years
It’s just nice to know there are other people like me out there because I thought I was the only one saves these magazines when everyone else would be cutting them up
Congrats, man! 53 today.🎉 I was born in ‘78 and Def Leppard’s ‘Hysteria’ album in 1987 was my first cassette ever purchased. There weren’t a lot of black kids listening to heavy metal back then, but I never cared. 😅 My parents always called me a ‘One Man Band.’
Dude, you're like 46-years-old, man.
This is awesome, because Motley Crue also hit me in a massive way when I was in 7th grade. It happened a good 20 years later, but man, after that, my life changed forever. I saw them live in 2010 with Poison and the New York Dolls. I'm still a metal head and I'm hoping to see LA Guns in February.
Lender thank you for taking us on your time travel machine , we really appreciated, thank you
Means a lot to hear this. Thank youuuuuu!!
❤❤❤
I am and always will be a Metalhead for life 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻 Cool 😎 video Len 😁
Glad u liked it!! 🤘🙂🤘
Metal4life
Watched all of your videos, dude, and this one is brilliant. You have lived a mirror image of my life. I am 1 year older than you. But the records they have the fun and frolix. Exactly the same s***, love your videos our music taste is exactly the same
So glad you enjoyed this & thanks for continuing to watch. Rock on my friend!!!
Happy birthday len!!!!...mines on th 15th December
Thank you and happy early bday to you 🤘🤘
It almost brings a tear to my eyes to see this. I have/had most of the albums you showed. I was never a big fan of Slayer, but at the same time I've seen them live 5-6 times🙂 I was surprised to see that you had Stage Dolls. Saw them live in the 80s, and now most recently in 2021 and 22.
Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Saxon, Alice Cooper, Def Leppard were probably my biggest favorites in this period (and still are). + and of course a whole bunch of other bands.😀✌️🤟🍻
Great stories! - an old school thrash metal guy that also enjoys hair metal
Dude ! I swear you just described my music list ! Lol...like we were best buds back in the day ! Live the memories you stir up with your awesome videos !
Another killer retrospective video, Len. Crue's "Too Fast For Love" and Loudness' "Thunder in the East" we're the soundtrack to my teenage summer of love (1986). Shortly after, I began to listen to heavier thrash bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, etc, and wouldn't admit to still liking the old "poser" bands, but it was all just a front. Too Fast for Love is still one of my favorite metal albums of all time.
You uploaded this video at the PERFECT time because I’ve been trying to put together a kickass 1980s metal playlist and this helps me out a ton! I’ll def check out your playlists too! Happy Birthday Len, keep doing whatcha do ❤️🤘
❤❤🤘🤘🤘
I will never forget my minidisk player. I painted every single album for hand!
Len, I need you to know that you’ve been a big music and fashion inspiration for me, and I thank you for that
I'm beyond honored!! Thank u for letting me know ❤
Doing it the old fashioned way....one piece at a time📸🎥📸! Nice collection of historical information.
I would not mind having someone with so much historical insight in my gang🎥!
Len!!! He's back!!! Happy birthday, man, you're my hero!!!
First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
second... now we want a sequel of this video about the 90s!
Thank you!! 90s version on my list!
24 y.o here! I love the 80s and your videos :-) 🖤
Aww... thank uuu!! 😊☺️🥰
Love the video dude, as always, thanks for sharing all these awesome stories! ❤
Was nice to come back to your vids. Nostalgia and feels all the way.
Amazing video! Watching your videos as a soon to be 18 year old makes me so jealous! Wish so much I got the chance to grow up in the 80s... A few days ago I bought the "Queensryche - The Warning" record and I absolutelly love it!! Everything was so much better back then!
Hell yeah!! 🤘🤘 Go out & live life my friend. There are MANY adventures to be had!!
Really enjoyed this Len. Born in 68 I had very similar experiences growing up in the 80s. 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Born in 66….first concert was Ozzy in 81…after that, Scorpions, Metallica and my number one Iron Maiden (still is)…1983 and beyond I was all punk, DK, Black Flag and my number one (Butthole Surfers) still is. Thanks for sharing Len.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Happy Birthday Len, we all enjoy your videos! Stay cool and keep looking young.
Man, I so glad to see your new videos, small rays of positive...thanks 🤘
Welcome back LEV,thanks for sharing this👍
Love your vids dude! I was born in '98, so i missed almost all of this stuff, but growing up I'd listen over and over again to cassette tapes that belonged to my dad. That made me into a metalhead for life lol. Greetings from Brazil!
Love your videos please never stop!
This was awesome! Nice trip down memory lane
So happy to hear you mention Janes addiction they were integral in changing my mindset to music I love them!
Love this video so much! I have been watching it since it premiered even though I'm commenting now! It's such a great insight and documentation of a magical time growing up! We're a year and two months apart. I graduaded high school 1990. So your timeline is close enough to relate album memories and I was just a grade behind you. By 1985, I was strictly into the Thrash bands and not so much hair metal. Our beginning timeline is similiar with Ac/Dc and Priest! The Cinderella record was cool to me! The story of "Squeek" is so cute and endearing. Good times! Thank you so much Len🤘!
I love watching ur videos, I love the vibes of ur friends, and how happy you guys seem in some of the old videos. Plus, ur a year younger than my dad lol
Really dig the channel. You are a few times further around the sun than I, but I totally relate being a fellow 80s/90s kid. I was in grade school during the 80s but listened to and was familiar with this type of entertainment. Thanks for the trip though time! Peace!
Love it, excellent narration, differentiating between that time & now with technology.
Love your content its such a blast from the past... simpler time back in the 80's ❤
Love your vids bro. They are edited so well and I’m always bummed when they end. Well done. Thanks for sharing this amazing history!
Makes my night to hear this. Thanks so much!!!
You brought soooo much back to me! I remember waiting for the radio to play those same bands so I could record them on tape. I forgot about that. I wish I still had those mixed tapes! You saved everything and seem to remember everything in the correct order...that's incredible! VERY well done video!
Dude, that is so cool that you have all of that stuff still. Great video!
Fricking awesome. You rule!!! 🤘🏼
No worries.. I loved everything from glam to black metal.
This video is extremely well done! I was just going to watch the first 5 minutes but you got me hooked for the whole video. You're quite talented at this, please don't stop making videos!
Thank u!!! 🙂
Hey man, love your contents. Now I wanna get back into metal music collecting
Very interesting, glad to see you alive
Awesome vid!
Same favorite bands and albums in the same order.
i just love u len, cant wait to listen to your playlists
😊😊😊☺️😚🥰💕💕
This made me laugh so much, loved it! Made me remember driving from PT to Tacoma the day after a snowstorm to see that Motley Crue show Nov 85, I was definitely all in on the Crue at the time. I just had two bucket seats for my best friend and me and two other friends rode in the open back of my Datsun pickup in sleeping bags and blankets and I don’t think they have thawed out yet.
Another sweet video man, This was awesome.I think it would be cool if you did a video like this for the 90s :)
I really appreciate your linear production approach. Keeps my attention the entire way through.
Thank you 🙂
Happy birthday! I appreciate your content so much Len. Never stop. 🤘Also that story about your dad was hilarious.
Happy Birthday
i had that same Motle Crue headband =)
And you probably have seen it, but the GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS concert at the Tacoma Dome in on youtube, What a great Show,
You are a time capsule of everything I love. And although Motley Crue isn't coming with me to a desert island, their first album is fantastic and still listen to it and love it.
Man great video as always Len!And love those desert island disks love em both!Cheers
I remember liking the same bands but really gravitating to the heavier ones like the big 4 and bands like Overkill and DRI. My bedroom walls were a shrine also. I think back and now realize that while a metal mag might be full of the hair metal pics a guy had to work extra hard to get a pic of the bands I worshiped. I mean for every 10 pics of Vince Neal you may see one of James Hetfield. Those rock rags were damn near as sought after as pornography back then, LOL. Sic video Len being about 3 years younger than you and from Yelm I totally get it brother. :)
Edit: My first concert was Van Halen's Monster's of Rock at the old Kingdome in Seattle. Wow! it was so good with Kingdom Come, Metallica, Dokken, The Scorpions and Van Halen all in their prime, it ruined every other concert after that for the next decade at least, LOL.
Wish Len put a video out once a week! I relate so much 🤘🏼
Wow! I forgot all about those glowing black light posters!! Those are awesome!!
Happy Birthday!!🎉…What an incredible video! This brought back my childhood memories. I’m a Gen Xer myself! I remember these bands, songs, style, this whole era…You just took me through a time warp & I loved every second of it. I also remember SuperStation WTBS! It was actually one of my favorite channels! A lot of good shows were on that channel😂…I live in Washington too, I grew up in Burien & I’m still here but now I’m in Federal Way. So your videos always hits me in the feelers…Thank you for putting in the time it takes to put these videos together. I absolutely love these nostalgic feelings that come from watching your videos❤
Washington in the house!! I'm super pumped that you enjoy my vids! ❤
Nice one Lendo, I'm 3 years younger than you lol, I pretty much listened to the same bands at the same times all the way over here in Scotland!
Ayyye happy birthday broski. I’ve been watching your videos for like 4-5 years and I must say I look forward to you dropping those nostalgic vids. I’m only 36 years old but I feel like I’m there hanging with you and your friends. Love you love your content. God bless and keep on rocking 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏽🤘🏽
Thanks for sticking around my friend!! 🤘🤘🤘
Happy birthday, Len! Sending all the best birthday wishes your way! 🤗
Been a while Len, good to see you again! Our stories are quite similar for sure. Quiet Riots Metal Health and Def Leppards Pyromania were surely two early faves that I still rock out to till this day. Ozzy was my first concert as well, my old man took me~1981 with Rhoads for the Diary of a Madman tour at the Palladium in NYC. Sounds like your old man and my old man should have "got together and went bowling"...lol Happy Birthday to you and Merry Christmas Len.
Fuck yeah!! Thanks!!!
Awesome Vid! Thanks for sharing. I was buying compilation cassettes a lot when I found Accept Restless and Wild! Hooked!
Love this channel!!🤘🏼I discovered Def Leppard in ‘83 and the gates of Metal opened for me 🔥🎸🖤🎤🔥
You featured some great classics! I love that Quimper Sound Records is still open, how cool! Thank you for documenting our great past, they were fun years!
✨📸📺📼✨
PS Happy Birthday! 🎉🎈
Thank u!! ❤️
Your editing just gets better and better, I’m so impressed! Thank you for making genuine quality videos!
It really means a lot to me to hear this. For real! 😊☺️😚
Bought a camera the other day and I’m filming everything in my life, big inspiration from you!! I’m also keeping every concert ticket stub too! Hopefully I can have as much things from my youth as you do when I’m older
I love to hear this!!! 🤘🙂🤘
Badass! The exact same bands I listen to. How fun it must have been to be a teen in the 80's.
Just discovered your channel today and what a coincidence is your birthday, LOL. Happy Birthday!
This is so well put together and so interesting. Thank you from a 2000s kid haha
It means a lot to me to hear that. Thank u 🙂
Damn Len.. That short Ricky Kasso video, I read that book in middle school...we were already into sepultura, it led to morbid angel and deicide! Stuff got wild man!
I read that book too! "Say You Love Satan" I still have it
@@LenEnders we really started off with some kiss albums notably the "god of thunder" song. Me and my best friend stole from his older brother aka "Mick" from Slipknot... Yeah i grew up with his little brother Andrew Thomson. He passed away but lemme tell ya we went on total metal crusade! Love your videos Len! It pulls me out of a bad time. Thanks! 🤘
Just re-watched Ricky 6- based on the case.
Happy Birthday Len! Love your videos! keep them coming :)
Happy Birthday Len! 🎉 (a day late) Thanks for the awesome videos. I’m 45 and wish I was aging as well as you. 😁
Ur too sweet! Thank u so much! 😊❤️
Len- Thank you so much for the Quimper Sound call out! In Metal we trust.
Anytime!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I had 2 of those black light posters as a kid in the 80's!
The ac/dc one and the iron maiden. I also had a judas priest screaming for vengeange one
Yeah! We did, too!!
wow dude was watching your channel about 2 years or more ago and you have really upped your fuckng game man,Kudos and grat job dude, will support as soon as I recover from Covid ! In 23 years time when you ready for retirement ! Much Love from Cape Town South Africa.
Born in 1989. But I still grew up listening to the artists and bands in your video. My dad always had the classic rock stations playing in his car, and my older brother born in 1982 had a lot of physical media of these bands that he played a lot.
So because of my dad and my brother, the first time I ever remember having a favorite song was when I was about 5 years old, and it was “Jump” by Van Halen from their 1984 album.
And my all-time favorite song to this day is one that I never heard in my life until right after I graduated high school in 2007. In fact, I heard it for the first time when I was driving to Radio Shack to get some kind of audio cable so I could play my top 25 favorite songs I listened to during high school at my graduation party. And the song I’m referring to is “Animal” by Def Leppard, from the Hysteria album (1987).
Brother you are a lucky guy to have documented so much of your life. I don't think too many of us who are 53-54 yo have footage of ourselves as teens.
Great video that pretty much mirrors many of our music journeys from the early 80's through 1990. Just didn't get into the hairbands like Poison, faster pussycat or Cinderella. Love the blacklight posters.
Thanks!! Rock on my friend!!! 🤘🤘
Whoohoo! Nice video Len! Back in full form! Missed you, you son a witch! 😉
What an incredible video!!
Another superb video len! Love what you do bud! 😊🤘
Thanks!! 🤘🙂🤘
Happy bday fellow 53yr old metalhead brother🤘🏼it’s always good to watch your videos. They remind me of how my life was here in LA except we had better access to new metal. KMET 94.7 Friday night mighty metal shop was pretty much all we had until March 1986, knac 105.5 was launched. That was the best place to listen to anything up til 1995, when their contract expired.
Looking forward to watching the next one!
that was so much fun!!!! please post more stories about urself
Happy Bday Len! As always loved your video. I’d kill to have that black light Freddy poster!! 🎉F-Yeah!! ❤🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank you! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Creem magazine was a source too and I did the cassette recording thing also!
Thanks for taking the time. Great video. Enjoyed the journey.
It means a lot to hear that, thank you
My teenage years (mid 2000's) was dominated by Limewire and short hardcore punk songs. I only had an MP3 player with VERY limited storage, so I had to be selective of what went in it. My go tos were Misfits, early Black Flag, Descendents, Ramones, etc.
I recently bought a bundle of Circus mags from '85 for an advert I am collecting for the art. Its for Iron Maiden done by Derek Riggs. I am 37 (as of tomorrow) and was not around for these so besides the one advert I am genuinely excited to read and collect them like you did. They look to be in perfect shape so maybe they did the same trick you did ha ha. Another awesome vid!!
Thank you and happy birthday 🎂 🥳
