Teenage me definitely made some very questionable decisions and the story surrounding the rise and fall of my first car was no exception!
Come with me on a journey to the year 1989 and learn about the birth and violent demise of my very first automobile.
My story is aided by the actual VHS footage and photos from the time plus cartoon storyboards illustrated by me.
This story took place in Port Hadlock and Port Townsend, Washington in the year 1989.

i was that Derek type, one day me and my mate got drunk on cheap booze and started to blast music in the basement, we found there bags with old clothes of my parents from the 80's and 90's my friend chose some fancy red blue sweater with golden buttons, a 90's kid cap and oldschool jeans i found a nurse costume and some badass silver coat, we went to the streets dressed like that suprisingly no one beat us up but we bought more beers and a champagne, this took place in 2013 i think.
Len was so ahead of his time it's like he knew that one day this would be the closest to time travel humanity could possibly muster

Great story. When I was 18 my dad bought a red 1969 mustang, with a big rust hole on the side for 500 dollars. We had it fixed, and re painted red. It was so good looking. He also bought wide tires and mag wheels. I loved him, and the car.

I wish I would have bought a video camera back in the late 80's and do what you did. I grew up in Columbus, Indiana (Class of '89) and the town was an architect fans wet dream. My car was a hideous yellow 1972 Vega station wagon and had an odd smell I couldn't get rid of. It had the luggage rack on the roof so my friends would take turns hanging off the rack. Dangerous but good times and nothing to document it all. I envy you, but appreciate you sharing your vintage videos.
That car was most likely scrapped but we need to band together and find it if it wasn't lol . As a child of the 80's and a fellow Voorhees fanatic that hood would go for big money as art.

wish i had a vhs recorder in my teen years, so grew up rock n roll or at the least i thought so and to go back and listen to some demo tapes of the many bands i played in turns out we wernt as good as we thought but still got me laid

I remember being 16 and doing something similar. I would go to the dollar store to buy a fake cell phone antenna. I'd put it on the back of my car so it looked like I was important and had a expensive cell phone lol. Looking back I feel so stupid now! 😵💫

As a person that was born in 1989, I gotta say: best fucking year of my life. Seriously though, awesome vids. As someone said in one of your other videos, this makes me feel nostalgic about a period I never truly lived in, strangely enough. By the way from your earlier videos you seemed more into more "extreme" metal around 87 and then turned mostly to hair metal. Perhaps you could do a video documenting your musical preferences through the 80s and into the early 90s, and mention the impact of MTV and your closer environment and what not. Anyways, greetings!

Reminds me of my first car, which I had to "steal" from my dad every weekend when he and my mom would go to their country house. It was a 1983 Buick LeSabre station wagon with faux wood paneling... Whenever I hit the town, I never failed to get compliments from others...

You're a great story teller! My husband graduated in 1984 and I graduated in 1985 (we got married in my senior year but our son, now 28, wasn't born until 1994) so we were guilty of loving fluorescent day glow colors too. 😁 It's a real pleasure listening to your tales going down memory lane with the videos and illustrations (I hadn't laughed that hard in a long, long time). Grew up about 10 yrs behind you but can relate to this so hard. Me and my buddies had a shitty 1970s chevy van with a 3 on the tree that we rolled around in with expired tags and no title. Never got pulled over either - good times

I honestly laughed out loud when I saw the actual paint job. My first car was a 1976 Fiat station wagon, similar in style to that AMC Hornet, but a bright, acid green. The Fiat broke down 9 times in 8 weeks, but I did give it a super cool pinstripe effect. I remember it was having trouble running without stalling, and then I realized it had been driving without any motor oil for a month. It worked much better with three quarts of oil. It was sold eventually, and I inherited my dad's 1982 VW Rabbit L with a 5-speed and 52-hp diesel motor.
Len, your videos are awesome. So many of us grew up at exactly the same time but we don't have pics or vids from our youth. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful nostalgia.

I'd like to go back to the Summer of '89. One of the best summers I ever had. The pop culture (movies, games, music, socio-cultural environment, etc.) was totally awesome.

I can't believe there was a whole set, or should I say a whole bunch of teens on the other side of North America, I am from Ontario Canada, that were just like me and my friends! I stumbled onto your channel quite by accident and am totally happy to say Thank You Len for reminding me of the good times ! Man things were better back then, we just lived our lives and did whatever the hell we wanted without a care or worry, then reality set in and we were forced to grow up! Thank you so much!! Yes, I did the illustrations myself, which ends up taking me FOREVER because I'm an extremely slow at drawing. I suppose I could hire someone to do them for me but I like knowing I did it myself. Pretty much all of my story type videos feature my illustrations

Hey Len, I love your channel! It is so cool how you documented so many things and held onto them. I am 23 now and I have been randomly taking videos and pictures all the time and hope to look back on them someday as well :) Did you and your friends ever do anything wild at an amusement park?? I worked at Cedar Point in Ohio for 2 summers on a rollercoaster and it was the best time of my life. Would have loved to see what a place like that looked like back in the 80's. My friend had one and we drove it everywhere man. It never broke down. We wrecked and rolled it over and just rolled it back onto its tires and fired it up and took off. You couldn't kill the amc. Lol. It was maroon with the simulated woodgrain on the sides and had a 6 cylinder engine in it. Gave 100 bucks for it and it looked like new

WARRANT!!! Your videos bring me back to my happy days! Your editing/illustrating on this one was rad! I turned 16 in 1984. My first car was a 1966 Volkswagen Bug. My dad customized it for me and had it painted Cotton Candy Pink. I STILL dream about that car; so wish I had held on to it. Can't wait for your next video!

If not at that moment; then when? The longer you wait the less likely he experiences life and grows up. It was the right move. Kid werent afraid to venture out on their own back then. But nowadays they never leave home. Sometimes staying with the parents until 25 or 30! Or indefinitely! That's pathetic!

Len Enders I’m envious you have these. I wish I would’ve done this and see some of the things I did but from another perspective. How many times did you shake your head and say to yourself “What was I thinking?” Ha! I know I would be! I’m 57 so mine would’ve been from the early to mid 80’s.

Yes. It was a giant boat of a Chevy. We lived in it on the streets of Hollywood for a few months before it broke down on the freeway. Then we ditched it at a gas station

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think we should get rid of the internet and smart phones. I don't think our brains can handle so much information so quickly.
It doesn't sound crazy, except I think we should get rid of the smartphones and keep the internet. Using a computer at home is super helpful, but staring at the phone wherever you go is toxic.
It's not like we can't its not good and make us easily addicted. Current trend is big on making us hooked to their site, platform, hell even CZcams.
