On an outboard, this would require the removal of the lower unit, but that’s not the case with the Moomba Mobius. We’ll start by locating the water pump housing and removing a cover that will give us access to the impeller.
Normally, this would be enough: we would remove the impeller from the engine using a set of pliers and then slide a new one into place. Ours was stuck, so we needed to take the additional step of removing the impeller pump housing to remove the impeller. Once removed, we put the housing back in place to proceed with the normal Moomba impeller replacement. Only this time, we’ll apply some marine-grade assembly lube to make it easier to remove the impeller next time.

The impeller includes some lube for the vanes so that the impeller will move more freely on startup since it will be dry. Once we’re done getting grease and lubricant on everything, we’ll close up the impeller housing.
