    Thanks my friend. Kreg conveniently forgot to say that you have to put “pressure on the back of the clamp assembly. I re-did that procedure 10 times without success until i thought……must be a youtube video on “how to”. Thank you-jb

    That’s a great video, many thanks. Looking to buy a K5 soon I hope. One question, albeit long. The piece that slides up on the jig to set the depth - is that the depth (thickness) of the wood that you are boring the hole into or the other piece that the screw ends up in? Also the setting for the collar on the drill bit, are you setting that for the thickness of the wood you are boring the hole into? Then (finally) how do you choose the correct length of the screw. All of this is assuming that the 2 pieces of wood are different thickness’. Oh sorry, another thought, does the length of screw vary if you screw into the edge of the board or the front face, as available clearance will differ.

      Complicated lol. Its all explained in the manual. There are many variations depending on the situation you have.

    Dear Brian,
    I have bought an aluminium version of a pocket hole jig years ago. I have to say although it has it's uses, personally I am not a great fan of it & therefore seldom use it ((nothing wrong with product). I guess it's the same as with biscuit jointers, some folks swear by them, personally I prefer using a doweling machine over the Festool Domino which apart from the price condemns me to buying their silly priced dominoes. I do realise pocket holes are very strong & handy, it's just a question of preference & what one is confortable with. Kind regards.

    • @ForestToFarm
      @ForestToFarm  Před 5 lety +1

      I agree there are lots of ways of doing cabinets and joinery. Some are better for one application while another is better in a different situation. The Pocket hole jig method is not the fanciest by any means but for the average guy wanting a good end result and not having all the many expensive tools required or skills required to do decent cabinet and other fine wood working the Kreg pocket hole jig is an economical and effective solution that does a great job of producing a quality end product. My friend who is a cabinet builder uses the pocket hole jig as one of his main tools and he produces some high end cabinets that are setting in gated community houses. He has a current job going for $45.000. He has lot of work and what he likes about it is its fast and effective with good end results that people are standing in line for. Hope your trip is going well.

      No problem, I understand and I agree and your method is a more classic method and in the long run a stronger way of doing things. They are all good but its all in what a person wants. I guess in today's demanding world its all about production and getting it done the quickest way possible and still having a result the public will accept and enjoy.
