  • Judging Stellar Blade by its cover and thinking that it’s just another stylistic action game or another souls-like would lead to the wrong conclusion. What Stellar Blade ends up being is a fantastic game that doesn’t fit neatly in any box because it blends so many genres harmoniously. Stellar Blade does feature ultra stylized action along with FROMSOFTWARE elements, but it’s also sci fi horror, part third person shooter and part metroidvania. It’s also dripping with inspiration from everywhere including requisite sci fi and PlayStation heritage with a very small list of shortcomings

Is Stellar Blade a day one purchase for you? Whats the next PS5 exclusive you are looking forward to?

No, but It will be like a couple of days after that I buy it.. I think this is going to be a great game, tho! I'm looking forward to some of those boss fights..

The boss fights were incredible, there are lots of them and they get challenging. The one in the video is very early in the game too.

@VDGMS Heck, yeah, that's great. How long was the game? Is there a new game +?

It took about 25 hours for me and I barely did side content. After finishing the game you unlock hard mode. The review doc said it would probably take about 40 ish if you were doing all the content on your first play

@VDGMS okay nice we'll that's a pretty decent game in length. I usually look for something close to 40, 50 hours, so that's good. Thanks for sharing this info!

@@VDGMS where's your gameplay ? The videos called Stella Blade Review

The review embargo said only to use the same 20 minutes of gameplay in your review to keep spoilers to a minimum. This part was pretty visually cool for a review and its clearly after the demo, and this whole fight wasn't shown in the trailer.

I think this is a fantastic game! I’m an old school type of gamer that still enjoys single player, campaigning games and this one has hit every mark for me that I want in a game like that. Thanks for reviewing it and cementing my feeling towards this game! Instant follower

Glad you enjoyed the review and the game. Depending on sales, it would be easy to see this becoming a franchise. Could improve some of the platforming areas and a few other bits, but solid foundation.

Nice review. It seems a shame to have stiff voice acting get left in when it is easily avoidable. Overall, it sounds like a great game that I'd enjoy. The blend of genres reminds me of Neir: Automata, butt shifted somewhat towards souls gameplay.

It sounds like you will. It’s more sekiro like with parrying being pretty essential to break stance but you could just dodge. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a sequel with such a good foundation to build upon. Thanks for checking out the review. Swing back and let us know what you think when you check it out. Did you check out the demo?

@@VDGMS I haven't played Sekiro or played the demo for Stellar Blade. I don't play demos as I don't like repeating tutorial sections which is what I think most demos give you. I always wait for a deal price, so it could be a few months before I play but I have Elden Ring on the go, so I'll be good for a while.

I’m the same way. Don’t like replaying the same section, but some carry progress over….like this demo! Keep it in mind before you buy. Gives you a good idea.
