I was the only white guy in the place and about half way through my set, it became Midnight at the Apollo as the room erupted into an arm-waving chant, “You done! You done. You done!” The club owner, fearing for my safety, slipped me out the back door and escorted me to the barbwire fenced parking lot. • @MorleyQ
    @MorleyQ Pƙed 3 lety +22

    I had an experience very similar to John Oliver's. I work in a science museum, and I sometimes do 15 presentations for audiences about a certain topic. I was doing a presentation about Newton's 3 laws of motion, and had just finished the 2nd law when the entire audience just gets up and leaves. I said, "Oh, you're leaving?" Turns out it was a field trip group and it was their scheduled lunch time.
    "Oh, okay. Have a good day."
    So I just...stood there, watching them all leave, holding a prop. Then it was just...silence, staring at an empty set of seats.
    A few minutes later, a couple visiting the museum peeked into the area and I invited them down. I ended up doing the whole presentation again just for them.

 It was here just a minute ago.” It was the biggest laugh of my set. It’s really good knowing that the legends experience the same thing. BTW

It is exactly like John Oliver described it, these tiny basement rooms with 4-5 people in them (including the comedian), and every joke is a flatline. The ones who are trying to get better always ask for feedback. A guy who did an hour and a half standup to 5 (down from 10 so half of the audienced bailed before the end) of us about living on a boat in this tiny room asked us, "What was the weakest part of it?"
