As a kid growing up in Kansas, that '69 team was my dream team! And the defense - 6 HOF players out of the 11 starters. Easily one of the greatest defenses in NFL hstory. Jim Lynch was a solid linebacker, a ferocious hitter, and versatile ... and he was the #3 LB. FYI, my childhood hero was Buck Buchanan! I loved watching those AFL Chiefs!

People give a lot of credit of that mid 2000's running game to that amazing o-line -- and rightfully so-- but they also had the best blocking TE in the game in Jason Dunn, and one HELL of a FB in Tony Richardson. T-Rich was one of the most underrated players of his time. Great receiving threat for his position, great with the ball in his hands, but an absolute MONSTER lead blocker.

Lmao i always wondered when Patrick wore that jersey, if that was a Montana or if he goofed, and jumped the gun in 2022 and bought a Toney jersey 🤣

A lot of young Chiefs fans here bellyaching about one of the greatest Chiefs QBs being on this list. I guess if you didn't experience him coming to town you wouldn't understand. We lived off his playoff run for decades until Alex Smith finally won a single wildcard game.

@@Richard-mq7wf There have only been three great eras in Chiefs history. All three under a single coach. Hank Stram, Marty Schottenheimer, and Andy Reid. All three of them coached more than one QB. Stram had Cotton Davidson, Marty had Steve DeBerg, Dave Krieg, Steve Bono, Rich Gannon, and Elvis Grbac, and Andy Reid had Alex Smith. But those weren't the reasons that those were great eras, it was the superstar QB's: Len Dawson, Joe Montana, and Patrick Mahomes that elevated them above all the rest. Dick Vermeil and Trent Green came close to reaching them, but if you can't win a single playoff game, you can't be included with the best eras.
There have only been 9 QB's in the history of the Chiefs that started for more seasons than Joe Montana: Len Dawson, Mike Livingston, Bill Kenney, Steve DeBerg, Elvis Grbac, Trent Green, Matt Cassel, Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes. Only three of them deserve to be in the top 50 Chiefs, some might argue for Alex Smith but it's a pretty weak argument.
In light of all this, added to the vital importance of the QB position in football, the arguments put forward by those trying to exclude Montana are insipid and delusional.
Only 4 QBs in Chiefs history, elevated the team around them to the point of national relevance: Len Dawson, Joe Montana, Trent Green, and Patrick Mahomes.
The Hall of Famer Warren Moon played in only 3 games for the Chiefs. The arguments being made against Montana would make perfect sense for his inclusion in the list.

I understand why you might put him on here, but Montana does not belong on a list of the 50 greatest Chiefs. Yes, he helped create a new generation of Chiefs fans, yes, he got us to our only AFC championship game in a span of nearly 50 years, but he simply didn't play long enough with the team to be considered.

@@ryanwhite9437 You are the one espousing the idea that other people putting Joe on this list is untenable. With the advent of free agency, players are no longer constricted to just being on a single team. Neither do they go into the Hall of Fame as a member of a team. Every team they played for is given credit for the players who reach the greatest height in individual NFL glory. Why do you hate it that Joe Montana is on this list? Simply because it goes against your opinion? Isn't that extremely arrogant? Why is it that this malicious narrative is so prevalent in the minds of fans? That a player has to play almost his whole career on your team before you condescend to allow him to be called yours.
You also think only Super Bowl winners should be allowed to be on this list? I don't know what Joe Montana did to you to make you despise him so, but he gave a little boy (who only had Derrick Thomas and his city), an exciting reason to love his team. I scoured my football cards to find the best QB in the league and became a nominal Dolphin fan so I'd have another team to play as, when all the other kids wanted to be the Chiefs. I might have become a true Dolphins fan if it wasn't for Montana mania. You can't just look at numbers and dates to determine who is the greatest. How players made people feel is the most sure test of greatness there is. And you keep denigrating him solely because he didn't last long enough for your made up standards.
I have been having this argument for a while in these comments so I'm sorry if I got to heated. It's just so agitating that so many so called Chiefs are grousing that one of the 4 greatest QBs to play on our team is on a top 50 list.

@@ryanwhite9437 Than why is your opinion better than the thousands of Chiefs fans who disagree with you? Are you saying that a player has to be drafted by a team and play most of their career in order to qualify? I actually lived in MN when Brett Favre joined the Vikings and I'm not sure they wouldn't place him on their own top 50 list. You do know know that they have not won a Super Bowl yet and have been a mediocre team for a long time with the occasional great player coming through. I don't think Brett Favre is definitely a top 50 Viking, but I wouldn't disparage a Vikings fan who put him on theirs.

@@bryanmyers5620 where did I say my opinion was greater than anybody's? 🤔 If you look back to my original comment, it's a question. Clarifying the parameters of what qualifies as "one of the greatest chiefs of all time". And IN MY OPINION, you've gotta play for the team longer than two seasons. I'm not gonna get triggered and flip out on other people who disagree with me on the Internet like a child. I simply don't agree with them.
