One interesting aspect of this tournament is the presence of “Superfan.” I forget where he presided during the NHL season, if at all. Other Canadian sports fan cheerleaders from this era include “Crazy George” from the BC Lions with his drum-beating antics & the “Flame,” the white-faced hard-helmeted Saskatchewan Roughriders’ fan who followed the team on road games & shot a flame above his head when his team scored a touchdown. Can you remember any other such fans?!?
A very underrated Canada Cup tournament this one is. Likely because Canada and the Soviet Union didn't face each other in the Final Best of 2 Out of 3 Games. In my personal humble opinion this one is the 3 best ones of the tournament 1976 to 1991 along with the 1976 and 1987 ones.
Game was in Edmonton. 8 Oilers on the roster, 3 Oilers coaches. Edmonton just won the Stanley Cup 4 months earlier. Then they win the Canada Cup. What a time to be an Oilers fan.
This was one whacked tourney , teams from every country playing very inconsistently through out the whole tourney ,with Canada leading the way . This game alone had Canada looking unbeatable then the Swedes coming back from 5-1 to make it a game , I don't think there's been a best on best tourney that was this unpredictable !!
It should have, by 'hockey justice' rules, but not technically. Actually technically it should have because the goal judge called it a goal before it was. There were some bad calls made by goal judges, but this one was really bad.
I still rank the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cup Tournaments the Best of the Canada Cup along with the 1972 Summit Series because the Soviets left out their Best in the 1976 one with Boris Mikhailov, Valeri Kharlamov and Vladimir Petrov missing from their Roster. I feel Canada was cheated out of facing the best. Quite possibly the Czechs would have lost the first Round Robin Match against the Soviet Union 6-5 if the Big Three played for them and Canada would have faced the Soviet Union instead of Czecholslovakia in the Final 2 of 3 Games.

@@bencallos812 I believe you're right. That goal should not have counted. My thoughts are that the referee was not able to make that call at the time. These days it would have been a Video Replay and surely called back. Frankly, that goal would not have changed the series outcome.
Well, Göte Wälitalo instead of Lindmark was the question I was asking myself. Fun fact: Kent Nilsson once knocked Wälitalo out in a SHL (Elitserien) game with a slapshot to his forehead. I was there. He was completely out for quite some time.
Lindbergh telled the trainer boork earlier that summer that he was not motivated to join canada cup because season started to early....Trainer boork replied and named lindbergh traitor
Shows how bad the goaltending in this era was when Pete Peeters was our number 1. Stayin? Nezland?? What the hell is wrong with the play by play guy's mouth?
In the first game of the final, the announcer (Ron Reusch) explained that the correct Swedish pronunciation of Steen was actually Stay-en. So that's what he went with, at Steen's request..
He was injured throughout the tournament, yet chose to represent his country when called upon, similar to Bobby Orr’s decision to play in the 1976 Canada Cup.
True. The Soviets, Canadians and Swedes were the best in this one. The Czechs didn't have the strong teams like they had in the 1976 and 1981 ones. The 1976 Czech Team was certainly the best one they had in all the Canada Cup matches.
Номинально- финал кубка канады. Реально- главный матч был ссср- Канада 2-3.
Thanks for the memories Brandon
Let’s Go Brandon
Even if we lost this loss is still legendary. Such a catch up! Our only CC finale.
The Swedes played with heart!
that 2nd goal of the game for Canada was such a beaut. The keep in the zone was amazing. Such quick hands by all
Can’t believe the place isn’t sold out, first one was illegal

The best team in Canada Cup'1984 was USSR-Russia.

Why isn’t the place sold out then?
I noticed in the final 2 minutes it was all Islanders at the forwards and Coffey and Robinson on defense.
what a game!
Aye lad.
LIKE FROM BAKU CITY. THANKS
To my opinion only. Gretzky. The best untouched and protected by the NHL player ! Again. To my opinion only .

No goal, penalty to Sweden IMO
IMO: No goal, but penalty shot because the Swedish D dove into his own net during a scoring opportunity.
Dove? Really?

Yeah that was not Brian Lewis's best moment... but they didn't have replay in that era so it couldn't be reviewed

It shouldn't have been a goal. The announcers admitted that. Bad break for Sweden.

@Ca Nadian thepride Why the ignorant attack on Ben. Callos. His question is legit. That goal should not have been allowed.
The commentator did not do his homework: Sundstrom is pronounced differently from Sandstrom: S-y-ndstrom or something to that effect :)
No...u have Tomas Sandström and Sundström x2 (patrik & peter) in this game.
Those were the days when the 'goal judge' had a lot of power. Thank goodness there are none now.
Messed Up Messier Goal
@@barrygregory913 Messihair was a dirty player ,I am surprised he never crippled any one.
How is Stastny playing for Canada?
Lots of empty seats, especially for being in Edmonton and many Oilers on the team.
LOL 1:44:07. Bossy is a cheater. He knows he is in offside, But he still tries to pretend he scored a goal.
A couple of Karens jumped on the ice after the game!
Those fuc*ers are everywhere lol

1:48:10 was really a two-line pass?
Why not Pelle Lindbergh instead of Peter Lindmark as goalkeeper for Sweden?
Johan Retsler
Cuz Lindbergh was too drunk

Всё правильно засчитали !!! Недавно в NHL,в Кубке Стэнли похожее было.....Тем более-швед сам в эти ворота влетел......
