    I didn't know that Bucks Fizz covered this song, was just watching episode 1 of the new season of "Dynasty" (the remake), and this song was used near the end of the episode. I thought I was hearing things. As Bucks Fizz were unknown in America. I googled it and then found out about The Romantics original. It still felt great hearing the song on a tv show in October 2019 !!.

    I've never ever heard of these people before. How can that be? I was even in the UK in the early 80s, lol, and oddly, I came home with the first Stray Cats' single which we hadn't heard in Canada yet. It just amazes me how different things are now with exposure. I also thought this was a Romantics' song, and I'm glad to see I at least had that much right. Amazing.

    • @ChasD
      @ChasD Před 8 lety +4

      +jacquesjunk Bucks Fizz were originally formed to participate in the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest, which they subsequently won! The song they entered, "Making Your Mind Up", went to number 1 in the UK charts that same year. They then went on to have a string of hits in the UK in the early to mid 1980's. They even became more progressive with some of their later songs (or rather those writing the songs for them did), showing that they actually had a lot more depth than just that of a fluffy manufactured pop band. Quite an underrated group as a result of the 'pop' label that was stuck on them right from the start.

    • @rjmcallister1888
      @rjmcallister1888 Před 7 lety +4

      True. As a working radio DJ back then I don't think their labels (RCA and Polydor) knew how to market them in what was becoming a much more fractured music market. Our loss, at least until now. Their later records should have been hits over here.

      Lisa Piper I think this one was kind of make or break time for them, as their previous couple of singles flopped - London Town only made #34 and Rules of the game #57. Different vocal styles were used by Bobby and Cheryl on them, which may have been a factor. Bobby even said in Smash Hits his voice was treated and he sounded like a munchkin. Not a lot for Cheryl and Jay to do on this one, have you seen the tv performances with them writhing around on the floor? The b side Don’t Think You’re Fooling Me was written and sung by Bobby too. I think he might have been planning to go solo around this time, having had a bit of success with his Big Deal single, the tv show theme. Their 1985 single Magical, the first to feature Shelley Preston was very rocky like this too, but flopped, #57. It just wasn’t them I think, plus I guess it took the public a while to warm to Shelley until New Beginning.

      The Romantics is a power pop and new wave band from Detroit, Michigan, United States, formed in 1976. The band's first show was on Valentine's Day at My Fair Lady Club, in Detroit Michigan, opening for the New MC5 in 1977. The Romantics achieved popularity in the United States, Canada, parts of Asia, Australia, Europe, and Hispanic America during the first half of the 1980s on the strength of the band's songs and music videos. They were influenced by 1950s American rock and roll and 1960s North American garage rock as well as British Invasion music
      Bucks Fizz is a British pop group which achieved success in the 1980s, most notably for winning the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Making Your Mind Up". The group was formed in January 1981 specifically for the contest and comprised four vocalists: Bobby G, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston. They achieved instant attention with the dance routine which accompanied the song, involving a skirt-rip. The group went on to have a successful career around the world (albeit ignored in the United States), while the UK remained their biggest market, where they had three No.1 singles with "Making Your Mind Up" (1981), "The Land of Make Believe" (1981) and "My Camera Never Lies" (1982) and became one of the top-selling groups of the 1980s. They also had UK Top 10 hits with "Now Those Days Are Gone", "If You Can't Stand the Heat", "When We Were Young" and "New Beginning (Mamba Seyra)". Their worldwide record sales have exceeded 15 million.

      I had to check the OG for that "awesome driving guitar riff" and was surprised it DID have the main riff in it, but the only thing missing was the 2nd rhythm guitar, which was just strumming chords... The extra guitar didn't really add anything to the song, since the actual driving force was the main riff, which is emphasized more in BF version.

    When you're talking in your sleep
    I hear the secrets that you keep
    When you're talking in your sleep
    When you close your eyes and you fall asleep
    Everything about you is a mystery
    You tell me that you want me
    You tell me that you need me
    You tell me that you love me
    And I know that I'm right
    'Cause I hear it in the night
    I hear the secrets that you keep
    When you're talking in your sleep
    I hear the secrets that you keep
    When you're talking in your sleep
    I hear the secrets that you keep
    When you're talking in your sleep
    I hear the secrets that you keep
    When you're talking in your sleep
    I hear the secrets that you keep
    When you're talking in your sleep
    I hear the secrets that you keep

    Nadal znakomity utwór muzyczny. Świetna sekcja rytmiczna i z fantazją poprowadzony udramatyzowany wokal.
    Still a great piece of music. Great rhythm section and vocals dramatized guided fantasy.

    The opening guitar riff sounds like it was inspired by the Steve Miller Band's intro to their song 'Abracadabra'. But quite a good pop song regardless. Wasn't this the single that had just been released when they had their terrible bus accident and Mike Nolan was so badly injured he was given the last rites?

    A good cover of the Romantics' 1983 US hit. We didn't know much about your stuff over here, but this and a live bit on the "Ultimate Anthology" CD I just got show they knew about our music.
