    I remember seeing a 67 Mustang while on a trip to Japan, naturally I assumed it was a U.S service member stationed there but instead it turned out to be a 30 year old Japanese dude wearing some stupidly expensive clothes. Especially seeing as you can get regular skylines here in new zealand for the same price as a civic, and the R33 GTR sells for the price of a basic new car. Sure the R32/R34 would be worth more than the R33, but they wouldn't be hitting these $100k + prices that they do now.

      Didn't know that, but one of my former English students, a 50-something stationery/office supply shop owner, introduced me to the movie American Graffiti. It took a middle-aged Japanese man to show a 20-something guy from America an American classic. I'm pretty sure he drove a Corolla, though.

      Wrong. Anytime the road has any curves whatsoever, I would not want a massive lump of Mopar iron in front of me. But that makes sense because I drive a car with a much smaller lump of Turbocharged Yamaha/Toyota iron behind me. So I guess I would say that?
      You know when I would want a massive lump of Mopar iron? When I’m exiting that curve at WOT and the sickness (you know the one) takes hold and suddenly I’m thinking 300whp isn’t quite enough like I thought it was. THEN I want a Mopar (but I still want it behind me)😉

    When I was over in Japan, saw some dude with a modded Chevy truck, styled after the low-rider scene. As a Californian, I gave him a thumbs up and praised his truck. He was beyond stoked to get compliments from a American. Saw lots of modern modded Challengers, Chargers and Mustangs while heading to Super Autobacs near the Wangan loop entrance. Im just surprised how the hell they fit in the narrow streets of Japan.

  • @mexicanspec
    @mexicanspec Před 4 lety +29

    There is nothing surprising about this. This has been going on for decades. When I worked at a Chevy store back in 1987 a Japanese buyer came over and bought 10 step side pick ups. They were anything from 2 1956 Fords to some '70s and '80s trucks. They also bought a few new Pontiac Fiero Gts, we also had a Pontiac store, which I had to modify to comply with their laws there. I heard stories from way back about the Japanese taking their old American cars, like a 1959 Cadillac, out for a Sunday drive collectively, shutting down the highway and having lunch on the hoods of their cars. There should be nothing surprising about something that has been happening for a long time.

    I was in Japan several years ago and it was really cool to see an old Dodge van and a 1970 Challenger drive-by. It was so out of place but it just looks so good. I don’t know if it’s still there but there used to be a place west of Tokyo called Ken’s Mopar‘s and that’s where a member on a forum that I used to belong to found his dad’s old 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A there and he bought it from him and brought it back to the United States.
