  • What would you do if you paid thousands of dollars for your child's party, and when you show up, the public facility says the party you paid for is canceled because they don't comfortable?
Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation did release a statement detailing their investigation of the incident.
Here's what part of it said:
"Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation (LSPR) has completed an internal review of the cancellation of a private event scheduled for August 6. The review identified missed processes and miscommunication that led to the cancellation. A sincere apology is owed to the Evans family and our Lee's Summit community. LSPR strives to be a respectful and inclusive organization where all members of our community feel welcome and appreciated. Inappropriate language, social media posts and behavior are not acceptable and will not be tolerated." ~ Joe Snook, Administrator
On Thursday, Roland Martin spoke with Chris Evans and his attorney Ivan L. Nugent about this disturbing incident.

Once I feel discriminated against by a business I never return. I know it’s upsetting but we as black people need to realize that no matter how much we yell it won’t make certain businesses treat us fairly. We just have to permanently boycott these places when we find out that they are like that. I know we feel like we shouldn’t have to because we are American but why would you want to give your money to and go to a place where you we’ll be mistreated or made to feel unwelcome because of the color of your skin? But since the party was only for up to 250 they only had enough employees to take care for 250 any more is a violation of safety which of course they wouldn't do. Yep. And they started filling pools with cement in some Black neighborhoods which led to mostly little black boys sneaking out late night to pools unsupervised and Drowning. So there is a story behind t be stereotype that Black folk cant swim. If multiple generations never learned to swim because public pools and beaches said "whites only" what happens? Unless you were the rare upper middle class Black families who could afford a pool in their backyard, learning to swim would be a challenge because generation after generation never had the opportunity to learn. Summertime for most Black folk in the hood as even an 80s kid like me was turning on the nearest fire hydrant and getting splashed by cold water! My first time in a pool was in high school circa 1998 at a white classmate's house. And by that time I was happy just wading in the water on the shallow end. 😆

Once that birthday party was posted on social media it was a wrap simple as that. Let not forget the numerous phone calls from anonymous people who wasn’t even invited or knew the teenager period. Sounds as if the park already been down this rabbit hole and stopped this fiasco in its tracks. Again rent the entire park out but they only had 5 lifeguards & under staffed. 250 people? Truthfully, you can't control what gets passed around on social media unless you have some type of "cap" built in (rsvp, etc.). How many of us would want to be on the other end of this ordeal where you are constantly turning away ppl "beyond the max" because they saw a party on social media? I would not. On another note, if this was INDEED THE CASE, this facility should have canceled with this family BEFORE the day of the party and given their money back. Please research before just claiming things to be true at face value. The agreement stated only 250 people are allowed and they are not suppose to advertise it all over social media. They did and 500+ people showed up.
They broke the agreement, so the pool tried to reach out to the family when parents of attending kids reached out with safety questions or how to get there. This is how they found out the renting family broke the agreement by advertising it. They tried to call, multiple times, they tried to reach out to go over the agreement one more time before the day itself so that the pool wouldn't have to cancel; The family did not respond so they canceled the party and instead the renting family still just showed up with 500+ people.
Y'all yell racism at everything and this is why nobody takes us serious. Do a little more research, because this is how it went and if you break an agreement before the event even started.. and your party gets cancelled before hand but you don't respond.. how is this racism? They did not know beforehand who would show up, all they knew is that one of their renters clearly broke the agreement already.
You can not go into an agreement, then break it.. then yell racism. This news outlet depicts a very biased reenactment of what actually happened. We can not keep using the race card, do better people.

This inhumane behaviour, compounded by her lack of professionalism, makes her a poor representative for the park. She should be terminated from her position. There should also be an investigation into other park employees who were responsible for the cancellation and these employees should be fired as well. In addition the park staff who made the offensive social media posts should be fired. Finally, I suggest a boycott of the park and suggest that this boycott be covered by nationwide media. May the good Lord 🙏 help guide you to do the right thing! I'm very ashamed in 2022 that there would still be haters like the staff at the establishment. EVERY PERSON IN THIS WORLD SHOULD KNOW What's GOING ON AT THAT PARTY. SHAME ON THESE STAFF MEMBERS.

This makes me so mad. I’m from Kansas City, MO and my family and I recently moved from KC to Atlanta, GA and this is one of the MAIN REASONS. I would’ve had to move to a place like Lee’s Summit, or another suburb of KC where they treat black people like this for my girls to be in a safe neighborhood and go to good public schools. We lived in Raymore, MO before we left and had to deal with funny acting white people in that area.
Although I can’t fully protect my young daughters from dealing with racism I knew I could minimize the hate they’d receive for the color of their skin by leaving KC.
I managed a T-Mobile store in Lee’s Summit, MO on Chipman rd, right down the street from that park for 3 years. I dealt with racism in some form pretty often. When they asked “where’s your manager?” while they looked towards one of my white associates and I replied “I am the manager” those white folk mouths dropped. I’m an unapologetic black man, with spiked culturally styled hair, and not nearly a crossover type of brother so they were shocked. I was very professional and treated every customer as an equal, I didn’t code switch no matter the race of the customer.
I hope this family sues the City of Lee’s Summit for so much money and wins. Therefore, we can see true change in the culture of KC this type of stuff has to stop I spent 36 years of my life in KC and I’m sick and tired of seeing and hearing about situations like this.

Did they do a head count have have it on video evidence, or are you just taking shit about 500 people because there's a claim of an estimated 500 people? You did research my ass!

They could've been smart to say they're understaffed.
& even that isn't the case They hired security as well.

So are you saying that the black neighborhoods were unsafe for your kids? Because that's what it seems like you're saying.
On the one hand you're complaining about racism and then on the other hand you're saying that the black neighborhoods weren't safe for your kids.
