      @@classicminidetails8887 it's nearly there, just an exhaust leak to sort out and some minor fettling. I got the engine started for the first time back in September but I've had a rough month and haven't touched it since. I don't have a brake servo on mine so it was interesting to hear your thoughts having driven both with and without, it's something I might consider adding later but I want to drive it first.

    My brother and I bought a brand new blaze Mini 1000 back in 1972. Loved
    that car. Polished to an inch of its life. Fitted a flick switch to give
    the wipers a flick wipe as that wasn't available then on the Mini. Also
    fitted an under bonnet insulation kit as well as insulation for inside
    the car. What a difference that made! A burglar alarm paid for itself
    as cars parked next to ours were broken into while ours was fine. Air
    horns were a necessity to prevent taxi drivers from cutting you up. One
    blast was enough to make them hesitate then it was too late for them to
    change lane. Happy days.

    Alex , l reckon if someone offered you £100K for that van right now you'd say rearrange two well known words ! Something's are priceless ! That headlining just needs tightening all round , a good trimmer would sort that in a couple of hours. Regarding the rear pillars . I'm pretty sure that a cardboard trim fits down the length of the pillar covering and thus protecting the lamps . On the right hand side it was cut around the filler neck /pipe. If l'm correct you will see 4 or 5 odd screw holes down the edge of the pillars. My first car was a 1963 "flat roof" mini van. 504 NOD . (£55.00p) in 1970! It was written off about 6months later picking my brother up. Some old boy in an oncoming Elf turned across my path , no where to go and end of ! Well, enjoy yourself !

Your father would be right proud of his Son and what he has done with his life. I am also in a wheelchair, but I am confined to a power chair. I think the van is fantastic. If your alternator light is on it means you are running on battery power. you better get that fixed immediately before you run out of battery power and you are stranded by the side of the motorway. Keep that smile on you face! I right chuffed to see the van completed.

    I did not really like my unassisted brakes in my Van. Like you said it's more of an on/off feeling. The first time I drove it it was in terrible rainy weather almost reared another car who suddenly braked to take a freeway exit. With the servo you dont brake harder but it feels more controlled and with less effort, at the time it was more to my liking

    • @johndavey72
      @johndavey72 Před 3 lety +1

      OK. It's there because of the build process. For cost purposes the welding joints were folded outwards to make the spot welding easier and quicker. 3 panels meet at that point and to have them folded inwards would have been very much more labour intensive , and therefore more expensive. The drip rail moulding covers the joints. That's why the mini saloon has the same drip rail at the rear but has only has 2 panels joining . So when you hear that someone has deseamed their mini you now know what that means. Hope this helps.

    Hi Alex, great video! My first car was a K reg mini van, in the UK. Had lots of fun in that some of which was even legal. I paid £30 for it, in 1981. I was already a bit of a petrolhead, but that little van cemented it. I also managed to put a bigger engine in, as I had a mate who totalled his 1071cc Cooper S, but we managed to swap the engines over before the insurance company collected for scrap! I am also now a wheelchair user (I wasn’t then) but like you, enjoy driving on hand controls (now in South Africa). It has taken me 40 years, but I have finally got the car that I wanted, which is a bit of a step up from the little mini van!
