    As a weekend golfer who happens to be an engineer by education, I love and respect your work. I have learned so much that has improved my game. Little changes in equipment can make a world of difference. BTW: Thanks to you two I had the perfect specs and the Ben Hogan Co
    is building my irons and wedges right now. Also Matt's swing looks perfect to me when he is hitting from to proper side of the ball.

    Just received these with TT DG's a few days back. 3 range sessions in and could not be happier. Coming from Mizuno these offer zero drop off in feel. They are amazingly consistent irons. Ben Hogan nailed it. I do not believe these should only be considered for budget players. These stack up with the best of them. Also fwiw, in USA they are using Club Champion for fittings before ordering. Great review of a great club!

    Played hogan apex pro(like mike weir did way back in time) some 15 years ago and really liked them. This couldn’t replace the experience I had with Ian and his team when I got fitted to my jpx 919 forged... still playing them. Thanks for all the great videos. The tip about holding a 5i like and 7i to flight it down in the wind was absolutely gold. That's the next level of ball-striking I'm working on. Thank you for that...Yeah, three months ago, decided it was time to retire my Nike VR Pros and ordered a set of PTX Pros in black, S300 +2 degree upright. Have about 15 rounds in this far. I can honestly say the confidence I have gained playing the PTX Pros has taken my game to another level. They are butter when pureed and you get addicted to that feeling so they teach you how to hit them. I know what sounds weird, but that has been my experience. It took about 6 rounds to get the sweet spot dialed in. Now that I'm 15 rounds in...I'm absolutely blown away. Just pick a target that aligns with the flag and swing. Take the glove off because you're putting for bird. It's that simple. Best irons I've owned. Ben Hogan has a demo program also.
    Really would like to visit you guys for a fitting to make sure my specs are dialed in. Whenever the border opens I plan to do that.

  • @steinfonell4915
    @steinfonell4915 Před 3 lety +6

    I had Apex Edge way back. I play Hogan PTx since a few years back. Love them. Have the wedges from 48 up to 54 degrees. LOOOVE the wedges and a cool feature is the grip where there are some marks of where to place your thumb for consistency! When I bought my irons - the markings of the club were only in loft. Then they removed that feature and had the number of the club stamped instead. It was a bit tricky to move from: I take my 7-iron to use my 33 degree. But, once I got used to it, it was no fuss.
    All clubs have four degrees between them. I play 29, 33, 37, 41 and 45 degrees PTx. I have 48, 51 and 54 for my wedges. I do have a Hogan -Hi club which is 24 degrees and here is some struggle concerning decision making. DO I go with a hybrid or do I go for that 4.5 Iron? It is a wonderful club when you really hit it right but a hybrid gives me the security.
    Personally, I would easily buy another set of Hogan. Yeah - it may be a bit tricky when it comes to ordering direct from Hogan instead of from a pro-shop but at the same time, these are buttersoft to amend lie- and loft angle.

    I'm a downward trending 11 index. Bought the PTxPro in 2019. Absolutely love them. Wedges are superb. Don't ignore the woods, all are excellent. Only club I didn't love was the hybrid, but that is a shape/visual issue, not a performance issue. Really perfectly designed clubs at the best price by a significant margin.

    Props for doing an honest review of clubs you don't even carry! It's a timely review as well. I just sent back a demo set of Icons (6 and 9). I agree 100%, they are surprisingly good, and you do need to know your specs, or at least pretty close. They don't have a lot of resale, or trade in value either, another reason to be sure of what you want/need before buying. I'm probably going to go with 6-P Icons, 5 iron in PTX pro, and a 4 utility. I'm playing the Fort Worth 15 irons right now, and these feel better actually. I've ordered several clubs from Ben Hogan and they came in at exactly the requested specs. Pretty rare in my experience, coming from the factory.

  • @golf007sd2
    @golf007sd2 Před 3 lety

    It goes without saying that Ian's ability to judge an iron is second to none; thus for him to speak so highly of Hogan Icon and the company is very pleasing to my ears.... especially that I own and play the Hogan irons (PTx version). Over the 2.5 years, I have owned my Hogan iron, I have had two fittings; my last fitting resulted in a different shaft that better suit my game in order to lessen my dispersion. Regardless of the iron, a shaft change is something us players need to address after a given time period; moreover, if you have made improvements to your swing. In the end, a very impressive and welcome review by TXG...where class and professionalism is at a whole new level that can be admired.

    I found this to be a great piece of insight into what can be gained from playing a blade in general. Would love to see you guys do some more videos on that type of overview of a type of club rather than a specific brand or brands. It would certainly allow me to make better informed decisions going forward when considering what I'm looking for for my specific game, especially as I didn't grow up playing golf and so though I've got down to 8 hcp quickly, I am having to simplify information to achieve a broad understanding and contextualise what I learn. When I was fitted my striking wouldn't be good every time so i got mizuno 919 hot metal but I will remember this for when my handicap continues to improve. Thanks guys. Hope this is some constructive feedback for future video ideas.

    The V-sole came out on the Scor and then the TK wedges and irons long before Srixon had it. Scot was the innovator of that sole. Not sure if the parent expired or how Srixon got it but they were not the innovators. I do play Srixon irons now because of the V-sole and I still play TK-15 wedges. The best wedge I have played in my 53yrs hands down.

    I love the modern Hogan irons, the PTx Pro and these Icon blades, they look so good! I'm off a 15, I have often thought about buying blades to practice and see how i go out on the course. My current irons (TM R7) have a quite a bit of offset and are very strongly lofted, and i tend to pull draw my irons these days and visually i find i'm just going to over do it with the draw. Any time i've tried a friends' blade they fly so much higher (traditional lofts) and straighter (not sure if this because of the lack of offset or i just find it it easier to return the face square) though, of course they punish you but you're also still in play.
    Landing approach shots into greens high and soft is the way to go! Great video guys and always good to see Ian hitting clubs!

    I bought a set of these in the black finish in May. Some of my favorite irons ever, exactly what they were talking about in consistency but also consistent gap between clubs, I think mostly due to the exact 4 degree loft difference. I literally hit the 7i to my number about 8/10 times. I hit the 4i better than I thought I would and I hit a lot of em to make sure I can still find the sweet spot. My set was $500+ cheaper than Titleist which is my other favorite and I can't see myself ever paying that much for what I can get with Hogan's

    I’ve played Mizuno blades for the last 15 years, always with x100 shafts. Just received my icon irons a few weeks ago. They are quality forgings. I find the ball flight to be a bit more penetrating with the hogans, especially in the short irons. Great feel and amazing price.

    Ordered my Icon black 2 weeks ago, they are backed up bc of Covid. Usual turnover at 2 weeks, they are 29 days now. But I did a demo with the icons, standard everything, they are breathtaking. My measurements are 2 in over standard and 3 degree up, and I still hit the standards well. These irons are the best blades on the market. And at 800, its a no brainer.

      For what it's worth, and for anyone reading this - I went to club champion and tested a number of cavity-backed players irons. Came down to the PTx Pros vs the P770s - PTx Pros had better distance control, better and more consistent spin numbers, and didn't get the occasional flyer off the face. P770s felt a bit better. Both went the same distance. Went with the Hogans for 750 as opposed to 1.2k+, plus they look WAY better.

      I can no longer play my ptx pros. The offset is too much. I’ve switched to mp 33’s and see similar distances when I take in to account the degrees vs number on the club. I might give these a try with the demo program.

      @@Redmarkviolinist I have the same story, did the demo program twice, s300 shafts 1st and the numbers weren’t great so I did the kbs. New a guy that worked at golf galaxy and he let me do a head to head against all the new stuff, srixon, 790, mizuno. Hogan’s came out on top in almost all metrics. Distance was almost as far and that’s before I knew about the 2 degree difference with other manufactures.

    These are going to be my birthday present in a couple of weeks. The nostalgia factor is huge being from Dallas/FW and my dad had a set of the original hogans. Challenge is I am 6'5, mid fifties, swing speed 117 (driver) and they wont send me a demo to my specs. +1 length and +1 upright. I have played blades since 97. Good ball striker. Best handicap was a 4...but don't play enough now. Not sure how to decide if I want the combo blade/PTX set or not. You guys are studs. Thank you for all your great work.

    Beautiful blade and awesome review TXG. I had the privilege of demoing the icon iron. Wanted to see how the KBS shaft felt over my norm x100. Found my timing was a little off. Are the two shafts that much different or has the covid rust taken over??

    An excellent channel. A cerebral, erudite critical thinking approach to equipment fitting. The key takeaway for me being that both Matt and Ian deliver repeated, consistent swings which serves as a baseline for tinkering. Once us golfers accomplish that then fitting becomes imperative to fine tune our individual swings.

    I have been playing Hogan apex blades from the 80's which were basically NOS quality besides the wedges which are pretty worn for the last four or five years and love them. I read The Modern Fundamentals of Golf five times so i figured why not. The two Iron is wild.

    The review I've been waiting for. Fantastic work guys, by the looks of it they have a bit of meat behind them with traditional lofts and blade look. Playing blades normally you would have to club up to get yardage on say a normal cavity back. Would you say they are close to mp20 mmc or titleist t100's???? Spin/yardage
