  • My top recommendations for the best golf irons you should be looking at based on your handicap! While ball striking can sometimes be better or worse than your handicap suggests, this gives a great starting point for anyone looking at what type of irons would be best for their game. One caveat I'd throw out there if you are basing your choice on handicap, is understand WHY you are at your handicap.
    When I was around an 18, it wasn't my ball striking that was the problem. I just never saw a 3 putt i didn't like.
    Once I got with a decent putting coach, i dropped to a 6 handicap. I was using Titleist AP2 the entire time.
    So just adjust your scale accordingly.

    I just bought a set of T300s after using a set of hand me downs for 15 years...what a wild change to my game. They are absoloute rocket ships and the weight placement in the head of the club has helped enormously in my swing with much more consistent centre strikes because of the feel of everything. I've just returned to golf after a 16 year absence and was not a single digit player back then so knew I needed irons that would make my life as easy and enjoyable as possible. I tried pretty much everything the shop had to offer and it was a lot of clubs, in the end the Callaway Rogue ST stuck out for the consistency, distance and feel. 1/4 inch of the shaft length and hopefully being delivered to the shop on Thursday for range practice Friday and Saturday followed by 18 holes Sunday! Wish me luck....

    I hover around an 11, and after trying everything at Club Champion I ended up with the T300s in a stiff shaft. My launch angle, descent angle, carry distance, total distance, and dispersion all improved.
    At first I was pretty pissed I was stuck playing a "training wheels" iron, but I simply play them better. They don't feel great (like hitting a ball with a marshmallow), but they go straighter and longer, more often.

    I’m a 15 handicap and was recently fit for Mizuno’s. I really wanted the 225 Pro’s as I love the look of those irons. However, the JPX923 Forged provided me with much more consistent performance and are now in my bag producing great results. Just another example of why a good fitting is so important.

    • @anthonycarney3128
      @anthonycarney3128 Před 5 měsíci

      @@MrSupermugen not untrue but that’s why places like Golfbidder exist. If you were fitted for a nice set of Mizuno JPX 923 a year ago, and have already improved to where something more bladey would progress your game, provided you have looked after your Mizunos, they would still fetch a decent amount on resale. Same deal with moving on from game improvement irons. In fact, you’d probably have even more chance of someone bidding on your game improvement irons since new golfers don’t want to spend a tonne of cash on clubs they are just trying to learn how to hit.

    I've fluctuated between a 0-3 handicap over the last 10 years depending on how frequently I play and practice. Mizuno has consistently made irons that work well for me and I've played the Mizuno JPX 919 tour's for the last several years. From what I hear they are fairly similar to the Mizuno pro 223's. I like having a little extra forgiveness than a blade iron but also still keeping a fairly accurate club.

I went along to a Srixon fitting day and the guy pointed me to Cleveland Launcher XLs with stiff graphite shafts to raise my ball speed and, oh my God, it was like hitting butter. I'm a 54 handicap beginner golfer and bought a cheap used set of clubs which turned out to be forged blades. Not the best beginner set, but I reckon they will teach me to hit the center fairly quickly

    Nice video Pete! As a golf equipment geek here is my personal handicap scale list:
    25+ - Cleveland Launcher Halo
    18-25 - Taylormade Stealth
    10-18 - Srixon ZX7
    5-10 - Mizuno JPX 923 Tour
    5 and under - Callaway Apex MB

    I was fit into the Apex MB 21's and have to say even among the forged blades they feel and look over the ball better than any other option out there. I fell in love with them after the first swing, tbh.

    • @jeremysturgill7465
      @jeremysturgill7465 Před 10 měsíci

      @@mikeabel7577 I did. I spent about 6 weeks hitting irons before my fitting and among blades I hit most of them. Some examples, Titleist were underwhelming, Mizuno were very good (as usual) and the Ping blades were surprisingly nice, but the Callaway feel was, to me, better than any of them.

    Told my gf to choose the cobra t-rail clubs. She's only been playing for 3 months and shoot insanely far and in a straight line with them. But she 4-5 puts so that's another problem. But I'm amazed over how insanely good the T-rails have worked even though she tops the ball 90% of the time. She shoots longer than me when I hit it well :p

    Currently using some Taylormade Rocketbladez, uncle got me some when I got back into golf a few years ago, they are really forgiving but probably time for me to upgrade soon. Currently shooting between a 16 to 18 Handicap. Been thinking of the p790s or some Apex's but probably best for me to get fitted first most likely as I have never done that. Sometimes my home course has Manufacturer's range days/fittings so probably hit that next time I see one.

    MY first set of clubs werent baldes. After that i played blades all the time. They look good and the club forces u to hit the ball in the center of the face, otherwise there is pain 🙂. I must say the new blades are way better than the ones 20+ years ago. I use the callway apex MB and they feel so soft, when you hit the ball. Even bad strikes do not hurt. I love them. My next blades will be from Miura, if they feel the same or even better.

    10 handicap: Just picked up a set of Cleveland Launcher XL irons (Not Halos) to compare to the Ping I500’s I’ve had for a while. Launchers have a longer blade length than the Pings but honestly are very solid and feel just as good.

    I don't have an official handicap but usually aim to be under 90 (not getting it lately tho haha) and I play some buttery bridgestone DPC irons. But even with my higher scores I still really enjoy the challenge of taking my Australian Blades for a round. They are the original Australian forging model, forged the same year I was born 1975, and are a damn knife. The challenge of trying to be perfect in each swing is a lot of fun. I definitely think everyone should hit blades every now and again, have fun, who cares what the number on the card is.

    I'm low 20s index. Did a Titleist fitting when the first T series was new, ended up in T200 rather than T300 due to better flight characteristics. My main issue is that my short game, while pretty decent, starts on the tee box.

    Great video! I’m a 20 handicapper looking to get some new irons. My buddy has a set of taylormade p770 forged 2017, are these a good set for me? They’re in great shape and we are talking half the price of retail or even used in the same condition. In terms of ball striking some days I don’t fell like a 20 handicap it’s just bad course management and lack luster short game.
