  • Hello there! Welcome to my first CZcams video. This is my Dapol 57xx, and I'd like to tell you about it. The goal of my channel is to provide informative and objective reviews on N gauge locomotives. I hope these videos will help the N gauge community as a whole and help my fellow Americans develop an interest in British trains.
Stay tuned. The Sonic Models 56xx is up next. See you in the next one!
Update: This is the second upload. I uploaded this video in 4k at 60fps. It's only showing up as available for 360p on CZcams, I'm not sure why. đŸ€”

Hey, great review, think you nailed all aspects of it, I really appreciated the fact that you ran incline and point tests. Great job! A shame about the burnout :/ Looking forward to more. Cheers, Hylt

I have a 57xx and it's one of my very best locos! It is both my smoothest and most reliable loco! I do run DCC though, so that may be the difference. It doesn't like being on a blanking chip on my analogue Hornby controller though, it tends to pulse somewhat, as does my J94 I just got. But with a 6 pin decoder fitted, both are flawless.
I have no issues with the cab removal at all I can change the chip in a few seconds, and the hand rails I find easy enough to pop in. But as you say milage may vary!

Great video, and a good review of the loco. As we are Dapol's warranty service provider and your loco is still under warranty, we would be more happy to have a look at the model for you. I know been outside the Uk, there are postage costs you would have to pay to get it to us, but the repair and return postage would be covered under warranty. Seems a shame not to have your favourite loco not preforming as it should.

Thanks! It really means a lot. I hope other people struggling with this model see these comments. I will probably end up sending you both of my 57xxs. I also need a spare dapol driveshaft, I'll be ordering one of those very soon.

Thats a very disappointing result especially since I need a pannier of some type so I think I’ll go for a 64xx as I need it to use with an autocoach. Looking forward to the 56xx review as I have one of these and it runs very well

I've heard they run better on DCC, but I have no way to confirm that.

Hello Dan, I bought the 38xx from Osbornes. I paid online but got no communication for weeks. When I chased them on the phone they couldn't find my order. They did get in gear after that and it arrived quickly but I really shouldn't have to chase them. Was worth the wait though.
My GWR tank is Graham Farish and it does run smoother than yours. I think perhaps you just got unlucky with a bad loco? But tell me, how does a guy in the USA end up with GWR? I think that's kinda cool.

Well, the GWR thing started because I loved Duck from the Railway Series books. Even after the 57XX kind of flopped for me, I was still curious about N gauge. The other factor in play is the cost of American N scale stuff. British rolling stock is much more reasonably priced. A single American box car can go for 40 dollars or more. As far as locomotives go, I can get 2 or 3 British locos for the same price as a single American loco. The only real downside is shipping times. Once you get used to it, it's not bad, just gotta be patient.

@@NGaugeUSA Shipping times can be a pain. I remember buying something on ebay and too late at the check out I noticed how many weeks it was going to take coming from China. I look very carefully now.

Bruh... Don't buy from Osborns models... They have terrible service. 8 weeks, that's insane... Buy only from Rails of Sheffield, Kernow models and The Model Centre. They are the best when it comes to customer service and shipping. I'm canadian, so I know the pain!
