Good video guys. My favorite historical shotgun. If you ever do another one, the 11's magazine thread is the same as an 870's. You can purchase a longer replacement tube and avoid having to fabricate one. But DYI is the challenge
Please continue making these mad scientist custom garage builds. We in the comments will be happy to provide inspiration. But there is a horrible lack of this kind of gun content on CZcams
Looks great bro, I think the baby poop finish and porting would really bring this project to a perfect conclusion. Personally I am keeping my eyes out for a barreled receiver Auto 5, or just a receiver, I just can’t bring myself to cut up a fully put together firearm for a project like this. I am going to give it to my gunsmith and have him make me a Rhodesian Browning Auto 5.
wow great job man ,,you should think about becoming a qualified gunsmith ,awesome job in an awesome industry around allot of really nice good quality people ,,and allot of gun nerds like myself ,,the industry is desperate for gunsmiths !!!
Yeah I’ve looked into it. sadly I don’t really do well in old men’s clubs. Not wired for hazing, bullshit, or know it alls. If I ever went to school for it would literally just be a hobby business for me personally. Trades are super cool, but infested with little dick syndrome.
It's buy once cry once It is a term to describe the purchasing of an expensive item, of excellent quality. If you buy a lesser quality and then have to buy the thing you wanted in the first place.
Too late now but really no need to slide the saw when cutting a narrow piece. Lock it if it has that option & bring it straight down on the piece. Not guaranteed to prevent blow out but might work better. Also not sure why you didn't have the springs & bushings in place on the mag tube when fitting the 2nd fore stock. I always have the butt on a solid surface with the gun upright when screwing on the forestock cap. Grab the barrel & push down on it to engage the spring-loaded locking pin. You going at it with vice grips was hard to watch .....
Yes that’s why I said the vice grips were the wrong tool for the job as I was doing it, it hurt me to. I latter spent time reading the Browning forums and the magazine tube cap on A5’s are only supposed to be finger tight I was over doing it 100%. The blow out was kinda a hard one to negate since that fore end was covered in a hard lacquer finish that really didn’t want to be cut. And I couldn’t really fit the whole thing with the spring or bushing installed since it’s a ridiculous amount of force on the spring pushing forward, I could never hold down on the spring and do the necessary work on the wood I’d need like 4 hands. Plus with the extended wood fore end it’s even more awkward to assemble, with a standard 4 round mag tube you’ve got a foot of barrel to grab and push on, with this setup it’s like 4in of barrel to grab which is just a pain. All in all I’d call it a successful project especially since I’ve never done this kind of work ever in my life. Just watched CZcams videos and jumped in.
@@henryburness3580 it has a bolt release like an M-16/ar15. So when you pull back on the bolt handle it will lock back and you can drop a shell right into the action, and when you push the bolt release button on the side of the receiver it’ll load the shell you placed in the action automatically, after that it will load from the magazine tube in standard semi auto fashion. You can also just load the magazine tube, and then pull back on the bolt handle and it will automatically take a shell from the magazine tube and loaded it into the chamber.
It’s all in the video if you watch it all the way though, only things I order were a extra mag tube, front have guard and 8 round 12 gauge spring. How I did it all is in the vid.
@@thesecretjuice yes if you watch the video you can see the process there was a lot of measuring and looking at photos of other Rhodesian A5’s online, this was my first attempt at a build video and CZcams doesn’t like in-depth tutorials around firearms so I sadly had to make it kinda vague on a lot of this.
Why go through all of the trouble, I have a real Rhodesian A-5 all i needed to do was add a Briley + 4 extension with the swivel sling mount. For $119.95 shipped, no hassle, cool factor, and it looks great, now it is a 9 shot A-9.
I personally dislike the aesthetics of mag tube extensions, having the full wood stock set and welded mag tube also ups the reliability since your not dealing with a threaded on adapter.
@damienthomas6655 -- You don't get it, I'm not knocking what Max did, you can achieve the same thing with a high quality Briley + 4 extension with the sling swivel feature for $119.95 delivered. You would have a 9 shot A-9 that can easily put back to stock configuration.
@@chasgiles1292 I appreciate the comments! But if you’re not super mechanically inclined or invested in doing this yourself for the sake of just doin it. You’ll probably never understand, yes I could have just bought plug and play parts but where is the fun or craftsmanship in that?
I know Remington model 11’s were used, since browning had to move production from FN to Remington until the end of the war. Stevens models 520s and Winchester model 12s used during the war as well. But the only photos of the extended mag tube models I’ve seen of A5s were in the Cold War era specifically the Rhodesian bush war. There’s only between 200 to 400 factory extended magazine FN models in the US.

Wood work lessons might be a worthwhile investment.
Good enough for government work
Learning hands on as ya go is always best! 👍
Classes sound too formal 😂
Nice work!
That is a really cool project. I love those shotguns.
Thanks
That was fun. I have 3 mod 11's
Fascinating video!
Thanks

Does this a5 auto load ? From bottom to chamber
All A5’s are semi automatic and load from the magazine tube.
@@MaximusOverhead what I mean with the action back when you go to put shell in magazine tube does it automatically pick it up and load

yea, maybe with a cheap Chote or other cheap extension. the Briley is super heavy duty and has the sling mount in a better location.@@MaximusOverhead
