    My daughter is exactly the same! She understood everything explained to her by 14 months, knew her whole alphabet and all their sounds at 18 months (maybe before), could count to ten and even add at 2, but she had delayed speech and everything she said were one hour wonders. She had lateral movement and used "dasch" to indicate everything. She knew she couldn't say things and it bothered her. She's 5 now and has been doing speech, but her speech teacher at the school is not trained in apraxia so I don't think it's as helpful as it could be, but I'm homeschooling her and the program we're doing has such good phonics and letter sound practice that she's improved more without speech therapy than with. I heard her first k sound over Christmas break and her first sound two days ago. It's amazing! You'll never get tired of hearing all of the steps forward and improvements they make. It does get better and it will continue to get better.

    My 31 year old daughter has verbal aprexia, phonological awareness, and learning disabilities. You need to watch your son for learning disabilities as he gets older. Early intervention is great. Keep it up with Finn.

    Thank you for sharing your story. I had a similar experience where our pediatrician at the time ( I found a new one and the new one listened to me) just jumped to diagnosing my child with autism. If I didn’t fight and push we wouldn’t have known it’s was Childhood Apraxia.

    I'm going through exact same thing with my 2 year old boy. I cried the whole time I watched this. He seen a speech therapist today and she thinks he has Apraxia so I spent the day researching this as I've never heard of this before. It's an exact fit. I also feared it was his vaccinations. What other testing should we have done? For genetic? Or heart or brain you said? We live in a small town in Nebraska so any huge hospitals are 5 hours away.

    Wow, Momma, my story with my 3 year old IS THE SAME. I’m sitting here crying watching your video! I felt so alone with this. Our pediatrician was so dismissive FOR YEARS when I brought up my concerns that she was losing words after age 1. Finally we have her diagnosed properly and in the *right* speech therapy, seeing the same kinds of doctors as you now. Even the dropping, my daughter falls out of chairs randomly. Just sitting there and *plunk* hits the floor. I just thought that she was clumsy but surely it is related. Not quite what your son does, she will completely hit the ground when walking also. But she doesn’t qualify for physical therapy because she passed their test (walking on balance beam, etc.) It was suggested to us to put her in Music class, swimming, and gymnastics to help with motor planning and building core strength , so that is our next step. Thank you so much for sharing this. (We also had her vaxed). Best wishes on your journey. ❤

    Autism is absolutely an easy diagnosis. As a speech therapist in training, autism was my first knee jerk when you said he had speech regression. However, you can NOT slap this diagnosis without a proper evaluation!

    • @KristenWatson
      @KristenWatson  Před rokem +2

      He has had all those tests but that was when he lost his speech and started having drop attacks, they wanted to rule out seizures. Every doctor kept jumping to autism instead of digging deeper. We finally got the right diagnosis and we are so happy that we can treat the apraxia properly. Stay strong mama ♥️

    No one will tell the parents real cause, but THAY (not parents) know the truth. It is a new condition in the children population in last decade all over the world. It begins after first year, just when a child start learning to talk. Think deeply and analyze what had happened. I wish for all kids all over the World with this problem to chive speech in line with their coevals.

    Literally in the same boat. My little has this weird way of talking like she draws out words (like kiiiiiiiichuuun) for every word and she has a hard time with volume. Are any of these signs of childhood apraxia? All doctors want to diagnose with autism but my heart says its something else.

      I am in the process of making an update video. As of now he still sees his speech therapist regularly but is still experiencing difficulties. He cannot pronounce the sound that ‘S’ naked and something he has a long delay when trying to think of what to say. My husband and I can understand him most of the time but there is still times we have no clue what he’s saying. Overall we are so thrilled with his progress and how confident he seems ♥️

    I am babysitting a little boy who will turn 4 at the end of June. I only started watching him in January, twice a week. He talks a lot. When he says a more novel sentence (for him), he may start the first word off well, but then it all falls to pieces and become unintelligible. I'm having trouble finding videos of kids who are closer to 4 and obviously, there is a spectrum of severity. I don't feel like he's severely impaired, because he can say a lot of words without any intervention. On the other hand, he's old enough now that we should understand more of what he says. He has some extenuating circumstances. He is being raised by a grandfather and a teenage sister. The family lost the grandmother when he was 1 and COVID was a spectre. So, I don't know if he babbled and I don't think that the family was focused on his speech challenges because he has had growth. I was just wondering if in your circle of support for Finn, if anyone could suggest where to look for more info on mild-moderate apraxia in a 4 year old. I mostly only see videos of younger children OR older children who are more severe.

      Sorry just watched you said it wasnt autism. My little boy is autistic and non verbal now at 3. I believe he has apraxia. Its harder to treat with his autism but they dont diagnose until hes speaking but he isnt consistently saying words. I looked into lead posioning but in our case its genetic autism
