I too have an XC90 2022 model R Design Pro B5D with all options, full leather, B&W stereo, climate pack, lounge pack etc! Your view of the EX90 is totally the same as mine. Potentially a great car spoilt by limited choice to make it yours. I have a 6th point that a really don’t like and it would even stop me getting one. The panoramic roof is fixed and can’t be opened! That would drive me mad!!! Seeing that roof above you in the video was getting me mad about it. Just don’t understand why they can’t have a roof that opens. Love your videos btw!

Hello. Sounds like you got a pretty amazing XC90 there 😎 Funny you commented about the panoramic roof, because if I should make a point 6 and 7 then the panoramic roof would be no 6 🤣 and no 7 would be the manual adjustment for the cushion extension. Was electric before, and also in my S60. Weird with manual in the new flagship

A dealer in The Netherlands told me that I can order a window shade that can be clicked on to the panoramic roof, to reduce sun light penetration into the car. Sorry, for a 100k+ Euros car I am not going to do that.......

Just hoping for the EX60 to be something worth while but not holding my breath. P*4 fell flat on its face. But if the EX90 has manual seat extensions there's no hope. I want electric adjustable steering wheel and inside mirror as well tied to drivers profile (that works...) thank you. On top of EVERYTHING on the seat adjustments being electric.

I was prepared to say you were being harsh BUT, I have to agree with you 100%. Thank you for your insights.
    1) Volvo can/should do sustainable sourced leather for a premium/custom order
    2) If Volvo want to charge premium prices, they MUST deliver a holistic premium offering
    3) If the long delivery window is to ensure the vehicle is of a certain level of reliability, the wait may be worth it
    4) Volvo has always been to restrained in the color offerings and that needs to change
Volvo has a history (even with their air-suspension vehicles) of not providing a fully compliant ride compared to their competitors. This needs to change as the prices charged demand an exceptional ride experience.
The BMW Group has never let me down and I suspect the fully electric X5 replacement will blow the EX90 out of the water and address every concern you described.

Hehe 😂 Great to hear I got your support and wasn't too harsh.. As a passionate Volvo enthusiast I expected the EX90 to really push the envelope, and continue the XC90 legacy. Modernised, but better. Now I won't say it's better than my previous XC90.
Regarding the air suspension I hope the EX90 will address this. Now Volvo have equipped it with two chamber air suspension. Instead of the one chamber from XC90.
      Let's see.
Excited to see how it turns out when it goes into production.

Hopefully Volvo will have capitalised on access to sister company Lotus and taken some consultancy on ride & handling but we all know that's just an unrealistic dream.
I don't see any reason why a Volvo shouldn't ride and handle well, and even when they don't handle so well, they rarely ride well as a consequence. A Jaguar F-Pace rides and handles very well, regardless of specification, so it can be done.

Totally agree with your comments - Volvo will pay a price for the lack of individualisation on such an expensive car in a segment where customers expect to have a choice. The availability of a cloth interior is admirable but it should be a no cost option alongside a nappa leather interior as offered by all competitors to the EX90. As for the limited range of colours, well they are more befitting of something in the Ford Kuga segment. No greens, which are very on trend, just one blue and a dark one at that, no premium paints etc.
I am guessing the steering column is still manually adjustable, which is unheard of in this segment and such as useful feature if you are particularly tall?
A late model XC90 in a good colour with leather interior looks like a great buy compared to its replacement.
I love Volvo like you but I don't appreciate the companies obsession with virtue signalling over luxury and choice. Cloth interiors and limited colours might not deter a potential XC40 owner but they will deter many potential EX90 buyers.
    Thanks for the review.

Point On, I Just Hope Volvo is Listening! We are in the US and the wife and I are currently driving the 2023 T8 heavily spec with all the bells and whistles. North of $80,000 I expect lots of Premium Leather and Wood. As a previous owner of 2021 BMW X7 and 2020 Porsche Cayenne S, I'm heavily comparing the XC90 to both. If Volvo continues down this road of cheap, sustainable materials at a premium asking price, then we'll have no choice but to reconsider any future Volvos purchases going forward.

I have accepted most of Volvos earlier transitions, like going from RWD to FWD and going from boxy to more rounded shapes. I even accepted the switch from 5- and 6 cylinders to 4-cylinders only. Despite all these changes, Volvos has always appealed to me. Especially the 90-series still feels luxurious. Also price was OK a few years back.
Now with vegan leather, bad infotainment, bland looks, boring colors and very limited customization of the cars, I don´t see the point of choosing Volvo. At least not for this price level.

So in all honesty, if you want to pull a trailer on a regular basis, simply forget about any electric car.. i am still excited because im in it for the size.. i miss driving an suv that feels like one and the xc90 looks like it might finally bring the suv experience to electric cars.. we shall see

I get it that leather is a sturdy and durable material in applications such as shoes, belts, bags and wallets, but as a material to sit on ... I'm not sure. Even with Nappa leather or lambskin sofas we need sofa throws to make them warm/cosier. Imagine leather bedsheets! I know there are perceived benefits of leather being more upmarket and luxurious.

Also the lack of buttons has been taken to the extreme and doesn’t help safe driving and the new steering wheel is worse,
and only two window buttons a la VW ID4?
Non open-able sunroof is also worse
The XC90 is a better car in everything minus maybe the LIDAR. Id go with the XC: better interior with real leather, useful physical buttons, better steering wheel, the sunroof opens

First of all i would like to thank Kristian for his videos and for his love for volvo.
I have a XC60 R-Design MY19 and even if i like my car, i think the competitors are way ahead of Volvo. Volvo reinvented itself after Ford and was on the right path with the latest models (XC40 for example) but somehow started to impose too many restrictions. One after the other. People that buy cars in this premium segment, like to have at least a couple of options for their own taste.
The graphics of the infotainment system or the cluster's car in Volvo for example... everything is so poor and simple... everything so watery ... look at a bmw x3 or a x5 or a GLE or a Glc... audi models or even Porsche, the amount of technology way ahead... way better... more sophisticated, more stylish, more refined, more sportive... it seems Volvo is getting like a brand for old pussi** ... it even irritates me sometimes.
And if a bmw or an audi is not less safe than a Volvo, so why Volvo needs to be less dynamic than a bmw or an audi?? my XC60 sucks the way it corners. Nice car overall but the way it handles... while cornering... driver doesn't feel the road... it is such a filtered steering wheel... it doesn't communicate what is going on the road while cornering more aggressively... seems like Volvo thinks so much in safety that took away the unpredictable sharpness and reaction of the wheels... everything so numb and filtered.
Typical philosophy of old people that just want to relax while cruising and can't be surprised, if by any chance someone gets scared and turns steering wheel more quickly and have an instant reaction from the car's direction ... to prevent this, volvo dedicated its know-how of safety and created numb cars dynamically speaking.
and nothing is worst than a "numb car" for people that like to drive from time to time, more enthusiastically.I like suvs but I also like driving. and I appreciate some good twisted roads.
in the past Volvo had great engines. look at them nowadays. only 4 cyl. colours are boring and interiors not as special as the others competitors.
I could go on and keep going. The only thing I like in this ex90 is the rear lights and especially the front ones. and the seats with Bowers and Wilkins incorporated. All the rest for me is a big no. it's a xc90 with a different front and tail lights.
If Volvo keeps going down this path for sure my last Volvo forever. and another thing that i think... ex90 really but really isn't worth the price. For that price range i would go to a X5 or a Porsche or a GLE. Not saying ex90 is bad but for me it really doesn't worth spending that amount of money and the time of waiting for a Ex90.
Lately Volvo is getting boring and too bossy. no leather, no top maximum speed, no this no that... no hybrids after 2030 or 2035, (I'm not sure which year) no diesel already, no combustion in a few years, etc.
seems like Volvo plan to make cars without getting assured everything is running OK , and then releases a bunch of software updates over the years. My XC60 is from 2018 and from that year to today, it still is getting a list of updating issues... like for example Drivetrain optimisation adjustments. for real?
See also what happened with Google Android automotive incorporated in these recent models. A lot of bugs and problems with the system. I think Volvo is letting Chinese people of Geely decide its future. A bad future for me in my opinion.
Of course that Geely owns Volvo. so now no one can do nothing about it.
For me I am out of Volvo forever. I am just waiting 2 more years and I'll go to the Germans.

Interesting take! Thank you for your honest opinion on this :)
I've gotten into Volvo by getting my customized XC40 D4 a few years back as a company car and just completely loved (almost) everything about it. I can't wait to order me an EX90 as we'd love to go bigger for our hobbies and dogs. It's a lot of cash to put down, so I can hope to scrape up enough to order it some time soon. My thoughts:
    - The wait time? Gotten used to it - had to wait a year for the XC40 already...just builds up excitement :D but I agree with you, slightly annoying ;)
    - The limited options? I feel overwhelmed by other car manufacturers and how many choices you're given. I feel glad that Volvo takes over a few choices by limiting extreme customizability. Also, it is great in my opinion for going for a used car - not needing to worry about how it was configured. If it had the two or three important packages, it can't be too far off from my "dream configuration".
    - Animal-free interior? Sign me up. Market-wise yes, it is a bold move. Personally, I'd even pay the extra to not have any animal-derived material that I have to sit on for a couple of hours during my commute. I much prefer fake leather over real one. As a side note: Technically, the interior is not even vegan if you count in the wool blend seats ;)
Either way: Gorgeous looking car and can't wait to see some on the streets - even if it's just in the summer of 2025 :D
    Cheers from Switzerland
