      In addition... What is that about? Les Misérables is about the lives of the most miserable (heh) layers of the French population in the end of the XIXth century.
      I'm not even sure that coal and even less oil is ever mentionned in any significant way??
      I could have made sense (in a very thin, stretched way) if that was Germinal (about the lives of coal miners). But it's not even that.
      That would be like protesting against meat production in a flower shop.

    • @samanthaburns6956
      @samanthaburns6956 Před 3 měsíci +14

      Understandable but also Les Mis is about revolution and humanist morality being at odds with the state/law. The play is literally about people coming together and fighting corrupt systems which actively harm them. Like this song is about disturbing the peace to achieve a greater goal, it is theamatically appropriate that it is disturbed.
      This sort of activism is also not about getting people on your side as much as disturbing policy makers so they are forced to concede to your demands. British suffragettes did similarly unpopular protests by breaking into parliment and vandalizing shops.
      Also there is evidence that revolutionary media that provides catharisis makes people feel like they have accoplished something causing them to behave more complacently. So disturbing the song might actually deprive viewers of that false catharisis and drive them to do something positive.
      Also this might just be the ADHD talking, shows with malfunctions are way more fun to watch.

      Everyone gets harassed but after interacting with thousands of people in an interactive acting position, there is sometimes this line that a lot of people are just willing to cross more willingly with women. Talked to someone that worked in a rehab center that confirmed this and I remember going through school and seeing the respect a male teacher got compared to a woman teacher. People will act up more, like a power play, because a lot of the time women are expected to be polite and submissive. I've had to learn to be a huge ice queen at times and not let people walk all over me. Watching the meta in videos/streams of going and bothering women in a very predatory way and then going and harassing men and tricking them really grinds my gears.

    42:41 Oml, I work janitorial and knowing that this has become a trend made me shudder. Don't do this to staff, it's incredibly frustrating to explain to someone "doing a public service" that they need to stop before they harm themselves or others. You hit it on the head, companies use approved cleaning supplies to prevent allergic reactions from unknown chemicals, even I'm not allowed to bring in my own cleaning products to work with because the company could get sued if someone has a poor reaction to it. I'd say she could get a real job as a janitor, but unfortunately it's not as colorful and glamorous as she paints it 🙄

      Quick question. I know this probably isn't as big of a problem as the health and safety risks, but what about any issues relating to labour-exploitation or breaches of contract with janitors/cleaning companies?
      To clarify, in the case of contract breaches: if the restroom owner has signed a contract with a company or individual to clean said restroom, and one of these "public service" incidents occurs, would that in any way affect the contract and/or the working relationship of the restroom owner and the cleaner(s)? Also, on the subject of labour-exploitation: would a "public service" incident be something an outside body could hold the restroom owner financially responsible for? To cap this off, is there anything that can be done to reprimand these "public-servants" in the event that their actions - in the absence of existing health & safety problems - only caused financial, legal, and/or business problems to fall upon the restroom owner and any associated partners or employees?

    • @mommy2libras
      @mommy2libras Před 3 měsíci +2

      While that sounds good and all, you have zero way of knowing if people might have an allergic reaction to the products you DO use. It has nothing to do with "protecting the public", it has to do with what chemical company gives you the best deal. Don't pretend like they aren't all made of harsh chemicals that someone could possibly have a reaction to because that's crap. I've worked in many hotels, from top rated resort style hotels to interstate pits where people live and sell dope in the parking lot and every one uses whatever chemicals are sold to them by whoever they have a contract with. Hell, at the nice hotel, I went through sneakers fast because the cleaner we sprayed on the bathroom floors ate through the soles after a couple of months.

    34:02 It is WILD to me that I had this experience once. I live in Brazil. I went to a federal public school as a teen. One day, a friend of a friend comes back after missing A WHOLE WEEK OF SCHOOL because he was at freaking Disneyland. He was talking about the trip to all of us, and the prices of stuff. "Oh everything is so much cheaper over there! I saw a GAP hoodie for X amount of money!" he said, smugly pointing at the GAP hoodie that I wore to school religiously, clearly trying to one-up me. And I simply had to tell him "mine was free". I got dress coded one day for wearing a red coat to school and they took me to some school assistance room where they told me to pick out a dark blue coat from the shelves. I saw a folded one that seemed to have a nice, big hood and instantly grabbed it. I just happened to be a GAP zipped hoodie. And they just let me keep it. It was my favorite thing to wear to school. Then that incident happened and it became even better, I freaking loved that hoodie just for the look on that dude's face

I can't blame the girl for trying to share her experience, even if it is a bit eccentric in a way. I've heard my French teacher actually complaining to us students about how, "Many Americans don't have respect for our culture. They look at the French language and think it's something they do not need to learn." This was within only the first three days of class. I'm not saying that what he said is wrong, I see his point, a lot of people can be a bit dismissive for other cultures, however I'd expect that it is wrong to assume that nearly every tourist or foreigner thinks in this way. If you want more people to be interested in learning about your culture, and respecting it, you shouldn't start critiquing those that might actually have an interest.

      @@MilieLitre I mean, only a few decades ago people were widely denied jobs because their ancestors were Irish. Google "American No Irish Signs" if you want to see examples of this. Being descended from Poles who immigrated a few decades before (for example, all of my great-grandparents immigrated from Poland between 1900 and 1950) doesn't make me Polish. I'm American. My family has kept various cultural practices from Poland, but I am not Polish. However, we've been discriminated against until surprisingly recently for it. So I get why a lot of Americans have tried to hold on to our ancestor's cultures, because for a long time we were discriminated against for them even when we tried to assimilate. But Irish-Americans aren't actually Irish, Polish-Americans aren't actually Polish, etc. And a lot of people need to understand that.

      However, if you, or anyone else, is actually doing some research on genealogy or keeping traditions alive, ties with Poland... I think that's great 😃

    As someone with clinical OCD who has random items or locations that I obsess over, you just have to learn that the world cannot always accommodate for you. In my own home I have my set of cutlery, my plate, my bowl, etc. and that’s okay because the people I live with know that these are ‘my’ items and are happy to not use them as we openly discussed this. If I go to the shops and ‘my’ carpark is taken it can certainly be difficult mentality, but that’s my problem to deal with. I’m the one with OCD and I’m in a public space. I have to work on managing my obsessions, not just blame the random stranger who has no idea I even exist. It can be hard to rationalise sometimes in those mindsets, but calling the police and doubling down is just terrible….

      A lot of them go to places where they don't know anything, not even the language and stay pretty much confined to the military campus because it's the only place where they have some semblance of familiarly. It can be pretty isolating since you're pretty much stuck in this small space and they're not there for any reason other than because their spouse's job brought them there.
      What's worse is finding out that the locals don't want you there either. So many of these natives come to work/socialize on the campus just to make fun of the foreign residents behind their backs or even right in ear-shot due to their inability to understand what they're saying.
      So I guess it depends on your reasons for coming there:
