Google just released their latest "A" phone, the Pixel 6a, and it's got some awesome things going for it for the price. But there is a catch or two; this phone isn't perfect!
Google did send me this phone as a member of Team Pixel, but they did not pay me to produce this review. The sponsor of this video is NordVPN, not Google.

Who cares if a phone is made from glass, plastic, or metal. Everyone puts a case on their phone anyway. I say use the plastic cheaper material
Plastic phones are garbage wtf are you talking about? Do you want a house made out of good wood or paper plates stfu
Wireless charging.
Lighter also
I don't
I don’t put a case hee hee 😛
My 6a just arrived. Feels great! The size and weight is preferable over my 6. The 60 Hz display isn't a deal breaker. The haptics are nice.
This is exactly why I traded in my pixel 6 for it
Does it heat?? I want to buy but my brother is demotivating me he says it heats and finger print issue is there...plz suggest me should i buy this ...as i have saved money from so long so should i invest plz give a honest opinion.
@@garimak3035 Mine got warm during the initial setup. During regular day to day usage, the phone runs normally(cool).
@@tpad6 Tf?😂
Why would you do that?
The pixel 6 is overall better...AND YOU HAD A PIXEL 6!!😂🤦♂️Why trade it?
@@Ugnexe #1 reason: it was hurting my hands from the weight.
Today was the first day using the 6a, I'm so much happier with the size and weight. Hopefully the 7a has 90 hz and the new camera sensor
I traded my Pixel 4a. As a person who moved from one a-series to another the things that annoy you don't bother me like 60hz, which the iPhone 13 still has and sells in the zillions, or the battery life as I am getting a full day of my use out of it. It's a matter of perspective. I think it's a good update for the a-series.
My Galaxy S10 is 60hz and never had an issue. Smooth as butter to me. I don't mind the thicker bezels, what I don't like on some phones like my S10, is the stupid curved edges that distort images and videos.
excellent video, thank you - I just bought the 6A and returned my 2020 Iphone SE
I pre-ordered my 6a and received it on Friday evening. I too have found the battery to be lackluster in contrast with my 5a. I traded my 5a because of overheating while just using maps. While I know some reviewers reported overheating on the 6a, I decided to gamble. Hoping it improves with software updates. I will say I miss the rear fingerprint reader. The speed and being able to do with from a pocket without looking was fantastic. But also I loved the slide down gesture on the reader that brought the notification tray down for me. I didn't realize how often I'd been using it for years until I can no longer do so.
I'm really not looking forward to losing the slide down feature when I leave my 3a XL, LOVE that feature.
It may take a few days for the phone to optimise battery life. Initially it will likely run every app on your phone until it works out what can be put into sleep or even deep sleep and then it should improve.
I miss the rear fingerprint reader as well (allot). Besides that I've gotten used to the 6a already
Great video. I like your impartiality with these phones.
Can you make tech rewind on s20fe?
5g one with Snapdragon.
Hi, thanks for your video. I live in Mexico near US, do you think It worth the shot change mi IPhone 11 for this pixel 6a?. I hope you can help me.
Do you think the stuttering on certain apps will be fixed with updates?
Definitely possible. Only time will tell.
It's not noticeable
这款手机支持google fi 吗? esim?我在中国大陆地区能买到吗?
Dude u look good in beard🌟
Only 4 hours on the 6a battery? I consider myself a pretty active user and the battery has been lasting all day and still at 50%.. What exactly are you doing with it during those 4 hours? Charging your EV?
How is your experience after using...plz tell me i am confused in buying as here in India its expensive so should i invest my money in it
Did anyone face issue with bottom speaker not working?
Because one of the bottom speaker is not working on this device
2025 is way too soon. I still have my iPhone6 and won’t be going back to apple since they killed the Mini size. Idk which brand to choose
Love the pixel line
Hi, I just got this phone from xfinity. I make videos and did not expect that there would be no extra storage. What do I do when my storage fills up? I like to keep my photos and videos. I was using a samsung android J7 V. How does the pixel 6a compare? BTW I am a Luddite. I do my best to try to learn everything but this phone came upon me suddenly with a cheap monthly wireless bill. I wish I had a human I could ask questions of, but it looks like I have to do everything through a website. Thank you!

This phone is on everyone's radar, just not in everyone's region 😭😭😍
In North America, maybe but not in France. People prefer Samsung A series.
What’s more in North America, Pixel don’t go over 3% so this review of Mark makes me laugh.
Geek are not average people
@@iAfroTech it's available in France
@@romainth3 i didn't say it's not available on France, i was responding to his sentence, for me and as i see in Paris, Pixel are not in everyone's radar. Only geek. I have never seen anyone with a Pixel in the streets or at a party. 😉
Same thing when i travel in France.
People now Google but don't know really about Pixel.
Right know, there is a Google stand in Fnac St Lazare, major store dealing with Books, tech and other stuff but you will not see many people around whereas it is near entry door. People prefer going to 1st floor when they can find more smartphones and they don't look after Pixel.
Google could have at least put an option to go 90hz and made the charging faster. It would not have costed them anything but it’s obvious they are positioning this product in a way for consumers to go for the pixel 7 when it comes out.
Most people don't need a custom Google SOC in their phones. Even if Google released Pixel 6a with 2020 SOC with $449 price comes with 90 refresh rate, 12Gb RAM with 256Gb Storage and wireless charging - I'm sure more people will blindly praise the phone. 99% people buying phones don't even care about OS updates or security updates.
the cat in the picture is so cute
To much focus on hardware this pack the same chip as the Pixel 6Pro the software experience is what matters hardware is a preference.
yeah, even mkbhd thought it was glass back…
Dont overthink and over-analyze. Just buy the phone. I have it one week now (also owner of iPhone 13 Pro) and it is great in every department (camera, screen responsiveness etc)
I love my Google Pixel 6 Pro and 6a
The 60 hrz is fine on mine can’t tell the difference.
Drama queens
Yeah. Even 90hz on a devices with less than 7" inches screen is not necessary. In Gaming monitors and tvs it's the real deal to have faster refresh rate.
Can you make tech rewind video on Xiaomi 11t
I love plastic back. One less thing to worry about if you happen to drop the phone.
People obsess too much over the back being glass. The 6a feels every bit as premium as the rest of the 6 series to me. Then so many complained about the 60 hertz display. Real talk, it works and it’s smooth while saving on battery so who cares? Battery life is amazing on it and easily gets me through a day getting 6 hours of screen on time. Much better than the Pixel 7 I wound up sending back for poor battery life. It could use a brighter display, but otherwise the 6a is probably the best budget android phone you can get. Especially with it only being $299 on the Black Friday sale. For that price it’s an unbeatable deal. So much so I gave the white one I had to my brother and I’m gonna get the sage color when it goes on sale.
Why not more many contents?
Iam using one plus 9r can i upgrade Google 6a is it good option or not suggest me sir
No bro , 9R is still a great device and you will regret the decision , because 9R has less bezels and 120Hz screen , great build quality, better battery/charging tech.
If you upgrade to 6A you will get better camera and software support but the downsides are a lot compared to upsides.
So save your money and stick to 9R.(or you can buy regular pixel 6)
@@saireddy6463 but worst camera ⚰️
As long as Exynos is making tensor, pixel phones will have performance issues
Another new phone is it worth it.
I had it and returned it, constantly overheating even on basic tasks, warnings while using the camera and throttling while watching videos on youtube for 15 min. It even gave me a warning while calling someone. Other people i know that bought it are very unhappy aswell with this.
This sounds like they haven't fixed what made me sell my 4a. Even a 15 minute video call would cause it to overheat display warnings and shut down.
Liar
You should have waited for next updates.
@@andyH_England wrong
@@paultasker7788 hahahahaha. No
I wonder why Google Pixel is not available all over Asia just like iPhone or Samsung
I have a phone with 120hz display
Its noticable when I go to 60hz
But its not that bad really
Display is plenty good. As good as my iPhone 12 which 60hz is fine for apparently
I have a pixel 5 and I had really good experience with the battery life (average 50% at the end of the day, before going to sleep). Until I opted out of android beta and had to reformat my cellphone. Then the battery sucked and I noticed the google app was consumming the battery like crazy and had to put it on restriced battery usage. If you put the adaptive battery on and wait about 1 week or 2, the battery life should become better, you could even put back google app on the optimise setting for the battery again..
❤️
Haven't noticed any stuttering 🤷, my previous phone was a S20FE that I ran in 60hz for battery life anyway.
My battery has also been incredible, I'm on my 6th day with it and it has gotten better everyday. I don't do any gaming and not much video recording either which seems to be the thing that makes it heat up. I had 6 hours SoT and my battery was still at 36% so I'm not complaining.
Can I ask, why did you upgrade to the 6A from the S20FE, and what are the things that you'd say are better on the 6A? I'm not trying to be provocative, I also have an S20FE, but to me it seemed that the 6A would be a sidegrade at best, and a downgrade in some ways.
You can buy a Pixel 5 for £399 now. Same camera better screen and still gets updates. So which is better value?
Pixel 5 has a year left of updates and don't be fooled with the 8 gigs of ram it has the old tech in it ddrxm4 and ufs 2.1 speeds . Compare that to the 6a 6gb new tech ddrx5 ram and ufs 3.1 speed transfers it's night and day . 6a is the better but here . None the less 765g in the 5 is still pulling it's weight
6a
If you give me the flagship processor and flagship cameras you have definitely given me a flagship phone.
I have the 6a, its perfectly fine. Just doesn't have a 120hertz that people somehow need for not gaming. And wireless charging that is always been slower than wired, and glass, that only matters if u don't use a phone case. BUT it is smaller so that is a turn off for a lot of people.
I don't see the issue with that personally. I accidentally ordered a standard 6 case for my 6a and it is maybe an 1/8" narrower and 1/4 or less shorter.
Getting updates until 2025 ....
.... So what you mean is , 3 years. Just want to make sure my math was right on that lol
Other people are getting 7-8 SOT how is it so different
OnePlus 8T $349 at the OnePlus website. Better phone except for the camera. Less expensive.
I love pixel’s and I got the pixel 6 but after all those problems with Tensor Soc I decided give the chance for IOS specifically iPhone 13 and I’m impressed about battery life. Hopefully Pixel 7 battery life is better.
Sums up my concerns. I have the 5a and am happy w/its battery (a lot) and rear fingerprint reader. I'm sure the camera is better and the tensor has its benefits but there's not enough in the 6a to justify an "upgrade".
Did you but it?
My 6a was taking photos at 12.2MP, now it's 9.1MP. Don't know what happened.
Camera settings
🙂 it's pixel time
I honestly cannot wait for the pixel 7 pro!
People need to remember that Google is primarily and advertising agency. They can sell their phones for less because they can offset the reduced profit per unit by gathering more user data to sell.
Great video Mark! Do you really believe in NordVPN or strictly sponsor stuff?
Thanks! I actually use Nord and have been doing so for a long time. They're legitimately great! (they didn't pay me to make this comment lol)
@@MarkSpurrell Thank you.
Less than $500 US? You just have forgotten your Canadian and it's cost $599.... There's other options outside of the North American market, it's whether Canadians want to import them or not. Edit: I'm heading to your province on Sunday.
If u want a smartphone with a good camera, just buy any pixel device, I once did with the google pixel 3 and have been buying the pixel phones ever since because I want a smartphone with good camera with good photo quality. I have experienced lots(by lots i mean lots and lots of them, because i changed my phone constantly, i only use them for around 1 or 2 months) of iphones and samsung flagship cameras along with oneplus, Redmi, Mi, Oppo, Poco, Vivo flagships and I still go back and buy a pixel device anyway in the end, because the colors are the most natural which i liked very much in the photos, and imo the iphones and samsung flagships makes the photos and videos bit unreal sometimes such as they are a bit colorful and not natural at all in my eyes which i didn't like, but some people like a more colorful photos so i guess that depends on personal preference.
Oh btw the night sight with a tripod on a pixel device, jaw dropping. the latest Iphones and samsung flagships doesnt even come close.
I speak and write this comment from my personal experience and not some youtube reviews.
One more thing, The stock android 12 black notification bar sucks, I can't even change the color.
The overall experience is similar to an iPhone 11.
Do yourself a favor. Grab a white 6 pro and enroll in Beta 13. Closest to perfect you will find
Nah them stutters are unacceptable, regardless of its price point.
A. New toaster
Pretty bummed that they did not add a high refresh rate display. They should've added at least a 90hz display since most of $200 phones have it😳
You're failing to realize that most $200 phones have it is due to the fact that the processors in those $200 phones lags like crazy and with having 90hz or 120hz, it gives it some smoothness but without it , it would be very slow and it would lag like crazy while with the pixel 6a, it don't have to rely on refresh rates to make it feel smooth because unlike those $200 phones, the pixel 6a has a flagship tier processor along with its smooth animations and with android 12 making everything run smoother it won't need to rely on refresh rates for that. Put the Samsung galaxy A53 against the pixel 6a and the pixel 6a would obliterate it
@@andyH_England it depends if it's been optimised for 120hz as per pixel 6 pro. Because a phone that's designed to look good at 120hz is much worse at 60hz than one that was optimised in the first place for 60hz. My concern from the reviews so far is that the 6a software has been ported from higher spec phones and thus not optimised properly for 60hz displays.
@@andyH_England well i think it's pretty hypocritical for reviewers to be bringing up how mid range phones have 120hz knowing full well that mid range phones have processors that are extremely slow and cant even perform on the same level that a flagship processor can so in that case 120hz is needed for those mid range phones. I have my pixel 6 pro on 60hz to conserve battery life and yet having it on 60hz feels like if its on 90hz. Everything still runs buttery smooth on my pixel 6 pro with 60hz and that's due to the fact that its stock android since its clean with no bloat ware along with how well android 12 is so optimized to run silky smooth combined with the performance of the tensor chip making everything run buttery smooth and that's how it is on the pixel 6a so i think its pretty stupid how people are finding it a deal breaker for the pixel 6a not having 90hz when it isnt needed because it performs exactly the way the pixel 6 pro does meaning it obliterates those mid range phones with 120hz.
I have this... Don't buy... overheating and finger print not working in other apps
I really like the smaller footprint but no wireless charging is deal breaker to me
Who cares of the phone is 60hz only, most people don't even notice the difference in such small screen, most people have a big TV that's 60hz and don't notice the difference when watching games or movies, plus 120hz uses more power compared to 60hz
I'd say the non-pro Pixel 6 is a better option. More RAM, better display and greater features. Where I live you can get it for 515€, around 50€ more than the 6a.
The Pixel 5 is a better option too and can be bought new for £399.
I think the 5a was the pinnacle of a true a series. This tries to be a little too much like the premium models for its own good. But if you like that aspect, it's good!
Own it. Besides some little glitches that happen with the home button and won't switch apps sometimes, its great!
I just returned The Pixel 6a and I am going back to the 4a. I had connection issues and had to reset the phone multiple times a day. I did not at the same places (work) with the 4a. The in screen fingerprint scanner is terrible. It's slow and doesn't always recognize my fingerprint. The fingerprint scanner on the back of the 4a is great and instantly unlocked my phone plus I can pull down the notification menu with the scanner in back of the 4a , such a nice feature that is gone with the in screen scanner on the 6a. It doesn't seem faster on anything that my 4a did great, streaming video, games, music, on my 4G LTE network. Picture quality is also not worth being as FRUSTRATED as I was multiple times a day with the fingerprint scanner and the connection issues. The 4a takes great pics anyway. This phone is not worth the upgrade from a Pixel 4a. I don't recommend it at all. I will look for another phone but for now the 4a is great. So disappointed
I'm getting a lot more battery life than both my XR and my old Pixel 3a
super expensive in india
I got the pixel 6a. For free. If not I would have waited for the 6 to go on sale right before the 7 drops.
Imagine if google charged it for additional 10 dollars for 90hz, their build of materials would just increase by 5 dollars plus more people would want to buy it
Dude it’s a budget phone, curb your expectations.
Nearly $500 USD is not a budget phone for most people.
Android 13 on it and ur wrong u are kinda bashing phone it does some things better than the 6 and the pro let's be realistic. Mark. I ain't seen no hiccups got yesterday and I like it but my hands are huge so I'm going get pixel 6 pro. And return this one no phone is perfect pixel 6 pro one plus 9 pro 10 pro s21 fe . S 22 ultra none perfect and cost alot more no phone in price range can touch 6a even some phones priced higher cant touch the 6a not picking is petty good reviewer. I got 6 to 7 soc. I'm a beast on my phone . Pixel 4a and 5 a is not better the tensor alone beats them both SMH
nothingphone is way better than this
The issue with this phone is that the 6 is being discounted right now for $499.99. So makes this phone note worth it.
Break the beard bruh.
I dont know, I like the asus zenfone 9 more than this
it should be a better phone at double the price
🤨 totally not the same market, midrange vs high specs
@@MidwestPyro55 My bad I thought the pixel was the expensive one.
