    The current-generation 508 has been around for about five years, but it is still Peugeot’s saloon competitor against the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat.
    Equipped with plenty of kit and some brilliant diesel engines, it’s still got a lot going for it. But is it starting to show its age?
    We take the 508 for a drive to see how it fares.
    Constantly updated, Car Keys provides first-hand video reviews, as well as all of the latest car news.
    Our experienced journalists are passionate about the auto industry, and strive to provide you with all the information you could possibly need before you decide to purchase a new car.

    Ah, ha, he missed the main point: the long range of this car. I’ve just done 878 miles on one tank of diesel. And there was still 6 litres left in the tank. Now that’s why this is a great, long distance saloon.

    508 HDI 1.6 ALLURE 2016. I love this car. It looks stunning in White, posh looking too. My naghbour said it would be great as a weddings car. It's big, and just about fits in the garage. Good job it's got parking sensors.

    I have a first gen 508, it is a fantastic car with excellent road presence and very economical. Admittedly, the interior could do with a bit of tweaking so that the cabin feels "just so", but Rome wasn't built in a day! Hopefully Peugeot take note and get knuckling down to some interior refinements!

      +Car Keys UK Thank you. I will say it's a great drive which surprised me as I didn't think it would be much different to my 308 14plate that I had before. I haven't gone for power and speed as I'm quite happy with the 1.6 engine. I do feel the reviews of the 508 are somewhat harsh like it's wally around corners. In my experience it's far from it. Oh well I'm happy

    I feel the older Peugeot 508's(2011 -14 models) looked better with the insignia on the hood (original looking, now it just looks like any other car) and much better looking tail lights with the chrome strip on the boot. Also the interiors looked better as well with all those buttons. Now with the touch screen, those buttons are gone and replaced by a sliding tray.

    Always great reviews guys. One criticism though - on talk of the interior/dash/cockpit it's all very well telling us to expect Peugeot to bring it in line when the next model releases. But you're not reviewing the next model, you're reviewing this one which essentially means you're saying it's outdated and a mess. I don't see the journalistic or critical benefit of glossing over that with thoughts of what will probably happen with the next version of the product. At least not in terms of people watching this video considering buying this car or a car now.

      @stephandolby Před 8 lety +1

      I also don't see them bringing the complete i-Cockpit over anyway; with the heads-up display (if specced) the raised dials are not actually necessary, and as these cars are more targeted at those doing long miles on the motorway then the small steering wheel isn't really required either. If they at least bring over a version of the 208's centre console - touch screen, plus the independent heating controls, unlike the 308 which pushes everything onto the touch screen - as well as slightly more posh plastics lower down or even the gloss effect from the later 407s, I think it'd look really nice.Yes, a redesign of the interior will help, but it's never been a bad place to be anyway. Trying to shove a bottle into a cup holder doesn't help - Carbuyer did exactly the same thing - but moving the cup holders away from the upper dashboard has to be a good idea. A sideways lifting armrest is rather unique; would it make more sense to implement a previous idea of an adjustable armrest, or would that just do the driver's head in?

    Peugeots always nail it when it comes to the looks, yet usually that's how far it gets. I mean why would someone prefer this over less expensive passat mondeo or insignia? Lower the price to become more competitive. Peugeot/Citroen must follow Hyundai/Kia's strategy which is give more value for the money being paid!!

      its more reliable than the passat and the 1.6 HDi is much better than the 1.6 TDI...

    • @nabilm2941
      @nabilm2941 Před 8 lety

      +Rui yeah just wait till it starts hitting high mileages and the problems become a routine. Resale values talk, and vw maintains a much higher value.

    • @rui518
      @rui518 Před 8 lety

      N. M. you pay more to start whit and even if the base price is lower in the vw the end price will be higher, i have made to many customizations on brands web pages to believe a vw is cheaper than a similar spec peugeot and i have seen and even drove and owned cars from both brands to came to conclution that both brands give problems, peugeots more stupid ones and vw more severe ones and in the end you spend a lot more money in repairs in vw cars...

    • @nabilm2941
      @nabilm2941 Před 8 lety

      +Rui yes and I'm not saying VWs are the most reliable cars, but they are relatively more reliable than the French ones. Overheating issues are just waiting their turn to pop up once you pass the 50,000 miles in a peugeot. I hope it has started to improve as its heritage can never be ignored. Nevertheless, I still can't believe they had the guts to charge higher while sales are flopping.

      N. M. i never eared that peugeot were prone too overheat and i personally never had problems whit that in mine the only car that has prone to burn the head gasket in my house has a golf II GTD we had in the 90's up to mid 00's it overheated sometimes whit no apparent reason or has prone to broke parts that would result on it.
      about the sales, peugeot is in a very good state of recovery, is back on profits and its selling a lot, specially the 208/2008/308, had the next 3008 looks wonderful...

      its more elegant than the passat in every way, the mondeo is the winner in looks, the insignia is getting old on the design and i think its too round to be taken serius like the 508 used to be...
