The Peugeot 508 is the firm's latest contender in the family car class. The looks may be a little divisive but at least they stand out, and this car's abilities are far more than skin deep. As well as being good to drive it's also luxurious and comfortable. The only problem could be with its price -- in range-topping trim it comes close to accomplished executive models such as the BMW 3-Series. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
What a surprise this car is! You cant actually see/feel it until you try it, but interior quality is a lot better than on insignia or even c5.. nice work Peugeot.
Ive had a 508 over 3 years now and can safely say ill be getting another one. haven't had one single issue in that time. the main dealer servicing is also cheap. all round great drive, comfortable, reliable and economical car.
My previous passat was the exact opposite to this. terrible bankruptcy rubbish! And all vw and German cars problems have been highlighted consistently now year on year in all reliability surveys from warranty direct to German TUV index to driver power survey. its amazing how the British motoring press are still trying to peddle the great German engineering myth!
Ross Donovan Germans are great doing cars and if you think that thats not true it might be because you haven't had an audi.
I really like peugeots they are really good, and of course reliable, I still have my dad's 306 sw which is 17 years old and it is still working great. And those great diesel engines that never get broken I love them hahahaha
Ilian Ive owned an Audi A3 and passat and both were a complete disaster, always in the garage every couple of months. the Audi gearbox failed after 4 years and only 65k on the clock, so no thanks ill stick to my trouble free 508.
Lucky you
Hello, what year of 508 do you own.? And how reliable is it? Pls
@@chidiuche754 it was a 2013 508. I had it nearly 7 years and it never had an issue at all in all that time. I have the new generation 508 now
It's not a bottle holder, it's a cup holder
He's just moaning about whatever as usual :(
@@saladinborbon5626 He has to be critical to some extent, as the car is being examined, positives and negatives alike have to be pointed out.
I get the impression he doesn't like Peugeot's & niggles at the least little thing!
The best in its class - that's Peugeot 508, the unbeatable.
Citroen C5.
petrovicdruid no citroen c5 thats a terrible car
sure
Love that boot open button.
your reviews are really good!
After nine months of owning and driving, I was so impressed with my 2009 Peugeot 308 2L HDI SW that I bought a 2012 Peugeot 508 e-HDI, with 60K on the clock. If my new-to-me 508 is half as good, i.e. safe, comfortable and economical as my 308, then you won't hear me complain.
Peugeot are one of the safest European car brands, there all very safe!
whats the update on your car? thinking of getting the 508 gt 2.2?
+Mike Byrne hi Mike I recently changed my 308 for the 508 2.0L feline. As I have drive my 308 for 290,000klms trouble free, love the 508, loads of power very comfortable. (Massage seats really good on the feline trim) defiantly recommend! Good luck with yours if you purchace one, my 3rd peugeot now and not one problem with any of them! Brilliant cars!
+Brooklyn Broularre ive also currently got a Peugeot 308 1.6 allure and its been ok. the ride is too hard and i have had some issues with the brakes and steering. its a great car and super ecomomical i made 64mpg on a 150 mile trip home.
is the ride better than the 308 on your 508 and does it have less road noise. also what is your mgp like on the 508?
so for all the questions, i trust owners opinions over reviews as theu have time to settle with the car etc
+Mike Byrne hi mike, and really? I know lots of people with the new 308 with no problems at all the same as me!! The only thing that went wrong with my 308 was the auto dim mirror packed in a month before I traded it in for the 508, however it was replaced free even though it was out of warranty! Peugeot offer very good customer service I feel!
The ride is quite solid however it dose soak the bumps more than the 308 and has more spongy seats, the road holding is not as good as the 308 however it's miles better than the newer generation Passat for example which my cousin drives! It handles very well around corners at speed. I never really tought the 308 was noisy on the road until I got the 508, it's super silent on the motorway!!
The mpg is not too far off the 308 I generally get around 55-60mpg combined driving!
Hope this helps.
Are you guys sponsored by Ford?? You keep comparing every other car to the mondeo or the fiesta. And we well know that Ford isn't the reference in the market.
Ben Tj I totally agree with you, there isnt a car that is not compared to a fiesta or a focus...unbelievable it is so annoying
I understand that point but not every car is compared to a ford
+Ben Tj Ford is a popular brand in the UK - Fiest, Focus and Mondeo are top sellers. It is only natural to mention them here and there when there is a competitor under review.
I know, for example the interior of the focus is probably the worst interior in its class. cheap black hard plastics with too many cluttered centre console buttons, yet these are all over looked by the British press because it handles well. Remember the focus diesel units are powered by Peugeot PSA HDI engines.
The Peugeot 308 mk2 is still the best looking car in its class 3 years on and has a top notch premium interior. still better looking and feel than vauxhalls recent astra too.
TO WHICH IS IRONIC CONSIDERING THAT THE MONDEO USES A PSA DIESEL!!!!!
I borrowed one as a rental car whilst I was waiting for my new car and this review is spot on, although I had the bigger diesel with 200bhp which for my was slow off the line but as soon as you're rolling, deceptively quick top end!
OMG!!!! Hey!!! Forgot you're suitcase :) good review like ever,
I just spent a week with a top of the line 508 and I can tell you its is really a great car indeed. However, I can never understand why someone would get into a perfectly good car like a 508 and then spend time whinging about bloody cup holders and places in the doors to hold pieces of paper, chip packets and other assorted shit.
its because its not a mondeo...
@@diravmahendra7692 They always go on about the mondeo when they talk about handling, so wrong, the mondeo feels big and clunky
It's a very nice car
Wait till it breaks down
i think this is my favorite peugoet!
my 508 2.0 diesel, 163 hp, manual, really does more than 1200 km on a full tank
I like his reviews.
I have a Peugeot 407 one of the best i have driven
drove the 408 but not as good as the 407
but 508 that's another story
We used to have one, great car
It looks nice!
Really nice car.. design is great..
The hidden boot release button has been around for a while Mat, I'm pretty sure it was introduced on the 407.
Even before this. The 607 in 1999 had this
Correct, I always been sceptical about French cars and their reliability but seems like they simply outperform the German rivals
Still prefer a Japanese one but Peugeot can be an alternative at some point. So far the worst are vw group cars . Broken before sold for first time 😀
toninocars
S-tech you never owned a volkswagen if you say that
No honey , you are an idiot!
There's cars in 2011 that didn't come standard with cruise control? In this class?
Mat got some color :) Lookin good, lad
dont call him idiot. is the best reviews u can find on internet. he is honest about the cars.
I got one of these, it's pretty nice car
I like this one, thought to start with it looked boring by comparison with the previous one, but in the flesh it looks nice!
this car looks so original and i like it
My father has a 1.6HDI with 140PS, its a good point from what i see: it easily tows a trailer, bechause of its length you easily get big opjects in it if you dont have the boot which is shown in this video, it is well crafted (good interior), and, it is fun to drive even for long distances, like 200km rides or more, good sound isolation(because of the aerodynamic and quite tire noise), it has bluetooth wich i enjoy because friends can easily connect the car with their phones
arrived last week
Fine auto
Great car. It has almost everything with quality. I drove it for a couple of times.
I own a 508 SW and i absolutely love it so far. Sure it has its quitks and as all cars, needs maintanace but my god has it been good
2 years since it came out. What's the feedback on reliability? I'm considering buying one
This car looks MUCH better in person. Especially the interior. The quality of materials inside is far beyond passat or mondeo, and comparable with audi a4. Actually, when i was walking around dealers the other day, i went from peugeot to audi dealer, and a4 felt cheap inside compared to 508. Its filled with aluminum details, and only soft touch plastic. It also feels extremely solid and you get a sense of premium quality thats missing from mondeo , or especially passat with its hard plastics..
this guy has an obsession with bottles, good reviews though :)
What about a look under the bonnet.? How easy is it to check the oil, water, battery, hydraulic fluid or change the filters? Is it fwd or rwd? Can the owner service it?
Very beautiful and comfortable car. Well done Peugeot. =)
2:41 transition from when he was driving to where the hand brake was on.
Now this dude drives the best of the best
boot open button was on 607 model in 2000
There is a background tune played for a few moments at 1:27; what type of music is this?? It's really cool, but I can't think of the genre it would be.
Luv it.
Matt, can you make a review of a Suzuki Grand Vitara ?????
after vowing never to drive anything other than a 306, I may retract my vow and buy one of these bad ass chariots
Can you plz do the Peugeot 301 2018.
i love the car its nice looking and superior on the road
A great car at an astonishing price really. I don't find it to be AMAZINGLY looking, but it ain't a boring Passat either.
Is there a decent cup holder for say 2 cups? Sadly, we do not see these cars here in the U.S.A. bummer.
Is there going to be a review of the new 208?
your the best!!
plzz i would like to know what do you thing is a better choice a 2007 bmw 525d automatic or a 2013 peugeot 508 which is more luxury i really want a luxury looking car
Mr Mat! Could you please review Chevrolet Aveo SEDAN car? Very much waiting for a long time!!!!
please do a bmx 7 seater
@cmagennis927 no, the case is that the trunk will be frozen by itself, ant you need force to open it, you need handlebar. It wont open by itself in Norway winter.
I would seriously consider buying one in Malaysia! (the Malaysian model is THP 156)
cool boot open button
Ok, i'm thinking about buying this car, because i really like it's looks both out and inside, and it drives so many km/l. Would you recommend it ?
@damieg82 Oh ok. Yeah Peugeot pulled out of the US and Canada in like 1991 or something due to low sales. Old Peugeots are very rare over here.
Sharp looking car.
You open the boot in the same way in the 407 :)
and diesel particel filter systems!
I'm driving the 508sw 112HP diesel since September 2011, reaching now 40000km (salesrep)
The best car I ever drove (yes I'm French but I'm impressed of the improvements between 407 and 508). No problem at all !
Car before was a BMW318D Break...I had several problems with it...and for the money you got no options inside !
The BMW was the first car I ever drove having rost problems after 2,5 years (180000km)
Only bad thing with the 508 is the so called wipnavplus..but there's an upgrade
@Bolerophon where the hell is there only straight aways at in america have you been 2 GA
Ehm. Did you noticed in your rainy country, that stream of water is coming to the boot when it is opening?
J'aime bien cette voiture francaise!
The 508 or the Vauxhall insignia petrol ?
Wait A Sec ...... At 2:40 Is Mat Leaving The Handbrake Operated ?
Adoro el acento inglés!
good video ;)
@dailyforman You use the button on the key if thats the case! :)
I very like this car.
From 308 the Peugeots reliability is at the top 5 cars. That includes later 407:s (2008 ->), 3008 (this has already proven itself to have real deal quality), 5008 and now the 508. The reason the quality has improved is that the processes in the most important PSA-factories have been improved in several steps (L'Andon quality program). In fact they have "stealed" processes from Toyota and Honda in Japan. Also many parts are made in Japan and not all by the Bosch (yak!) as earlier.
Is the heads up display the right? Words in French?
A colleague has just bought a July 2012 508 2.0HDi Active with 16k and all the bells and whistles for £10500!!!! Fair enough, it's an ex rental vehicle but is in superb condition. A year ago it cost £23000 in a showroom!!!!!
im getting it next month. cant fucking wait!
At the end he stared at the steering wheel for so long, I thought he's gonna say it was offset!
@tacoeatingzebra it's sad how they don't sell these there, these are quite nice!
I like it, they dont sell this in the U.S? 60 MPG is real good
@dailyforman Yea... or what if you are carrying lots of bags. Then you have to lean at side to press that small area with hand full of bags.
would like 2 c how u gonna push that button in winter time
I'm planning to buy a peugeot 508 1.6 hdi 2011 model in UK. It has 116k on clock. I'm afraid of peugeot because of french make ones. Can I go for peugeot or not? Please recommend some of the previous 508 owners!
Its great
@Bolerophon no doubt they big, im just saying its naming convention is wierd. if they call midsize "large" cars, what are real large cars (such as the s class or xj) called?
Silky Smooth!
this would easily be peugeot's comeback to the states
probably the ride quality has sth to do with Hand-brakes on? @ 2:40
I have never seen one of these in Scotland.
I would like to see how you will open the boot in -20c degree :) It will be frozen.
2:40 is handbrake up?
got the same vans as matt, dang i knew i was cool.
@lyaskoff You can't really tell, PSA have improved their reliability over the past years.
Car manufacturers produce car with both left and right side steering.. it depends on where they meant to be sold.. in England it´s on the right side, got it?
CarBuyer
You should also do comparison tests.
nice car
wow O.O Best car in class.....
Look at young mat watson hustling
i have the exact same shoes as you do.
Best car in it's class and up! This is allready sale success in europe. I would never by Passat or Mondeo!
can u review american muscle cars?
where r u from?
a nice car, can't figure why they dont market them in the US?
I guess they sell already well enough around the rest of the world!
