The World Government is probably the largest organization in all anime/manga, it has so many characters, subgroups, ranks and allies.
I love the concept of the WG. It's so epic and interesting xD

The scariest thing about the World Government to me is how ingrained it is to the entire world, and not always negatively. The absolute destruction of the WG would probably lead to so much death and destruction among innocent civilians as predatory pirates attacked without fear of repercussions. It's stunning, really, just how vital the WG has made itself in the smooth operations of the world. Like a microchip in a computer, and the Staw Hats are the grain of sand.
Absolutely they merged with the lives of the people and the planet as one entity, unthinkable that this organisation as we know might collapse someday, right?

The Marines have been seen collectively and metaphorically soiling themselves when two Yonkos meet or talk to each other, so it makes me wonder what would happen if all 4 Yonkos amassed their fleets and went after the Marines and Marejois together.

I have a theory about this Im character. Got it after watching Godzilla: King of monsters. And it involves the will of D. I bet this Im is a False King and those who bear the initial D. are the rightful rulers of the world. You know how they kept saying "D is the enemy of God"? I bet that means that the D Blood line will eventually rise up and dethrone the false king and retake their throne. And the ancient kingdom could be home to those who bear the initial D in their name. It kind of makes sense. The Navy banned all research regarding the ancient kingdom and the world Noble higher ups are terrified of those who bear the initial D. Rossinante panicked when he found out Law full name was Trafalgar D Watel Law. Doflamingo too.

Why would Oda, after her freedom so much, replace one world wide ruler with another? I don't see replacing the old order with another consolidation of power with another. I see overthrowing the WG and then letting the people of each location rule themselves. Perhaps even without monarchies or other authoritarian forms of government. Don't this "put someone else at the top" idea when it's obviously a long form story about removal of vertical hierarchy and the destruction of consontrations of power.

Love how similar the one piece world government is to our own with always doing absolutely scummy and evil things i.e. buster calls, void century/covering up history, persecuting certain groups of people, (ohara, the Ds) really makes everything a lot more scary, mysterious yet believable and realistic.

The Gorosei are afraid that the balance might turn into chaos someday, that's what Whitebeard was refering to in his final speech about the final war at the end of One Piece. The D's especially with Blackbeard and Luffy at it's frontline are personificated change/chaos. That chaos might even be the best thing that can ever possibly happen for the world, by stopping the tyrannical Tenryuubito system in order to create a true and free world.. but what would be the cost for it? what does it require in order for this chaos to trully unfold? At the end, at Raftel we might see the answer. It might take an incredible number of lives on the world via wars all over the whole world, an immense climatic and natural shift that might push the world to its edge. The Gorosei are afraid of this change and so they keep the untrue order in check, they are really afraid, so in the end it seems like a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea. Which one would you choose my fellow nakama?
But there is still this one key factor in the end: Imu and he seems to be the reason why this tyrannical system is there in the first place. I dont think he is good, I belive he is evil and rotten to the core. The Gorosei however might want to "act" in the interest of the humankind, who knows really?
That scene where you got the Kizaru pic from is one of my favorites to re-watch. Really get's across the terrifying nature of the Marines and why they are the most powerful group on the seas.

Not only do they cause just as much harm to the world as the pirates. But they allow the practice of slavery; which puts innocent men, women, children and elderly from all races in harms way.

Even though the World Government likes to fashion itself as a democracy, in practice is a dictatorship(and after Im's appeareance, the Government is now revealed to be an absolute monarchy, where Im holds absolute power.):
-Repression of all opposition and lack of welfare state: The Ohara incident, where the WG ordered a Buster Call just because of the scholars.
-Personality cult: The World Nobles are seen as gods, being literally above the law and able to do whatever they please without regard for the consecuences.
-Excessive control over mass media: When Crocodile was defeated, they tried to prevent that the news arrived there, putting Smoker as the one who did it.
-Absence of separation of powers: Im clearly holds all the power, legislative, executive and judiciary.
-Arbitrariety: WG wanted to execute Rouge and Ace because they were associated with Gol D. Roger, not because they commited any genuine crime per se.
-Indeterminate duration: The institution was there for 800 years.

Vietnam, some of Central and South America, many Indigenous communities and remains of tribal national structures, Rojava, and many more. Just think of a place the US has messed with About 70% of them were to get rid of duly elected and progressive leaders that didn't want to roll over for oil theft.
Even though slavery is mainly practiced by the world nobles, it's also practiced by the elite as well as seen in Sabaody. This means that the affluent or has spare cash can buy as much slaves they want and the government can look away. I do wonder if members of the World Goverment can have the practice of slavery overlooked if it profits business for the government.

I started hating the world government during Water 7/Ennies Lobby because of what they did to Robin and Franky. Then I hated them even more for allowing the Celestial Dragons to treat other humans like objects to be used for whatever. But my hate for them came to its peak during "that" reveal during the Reverie arc.

I like to think that the original founders of the WG were just and good in their actions. This would make the claims of those with the will of D being the enemies of the world as a total truth. The ancient kingdom was a legitimate threat, but shortly after it was defeated, the founding kings became corrupted by their newfound might and then sought to keep their power through any means necessary. This would make for a fun twist wherein Luffy and many of the other Ds are now the good guys fighting back against the tyranny of an almighty power instead of the implied "rightful authority" that many assume the D bloodline of being. It would even fit in with how it's been said that those with the Will of D often bring great upheaval wherever they go.

It's possible the original kingdoms that founded the world government sought to keep peace in the world. Though, as explained, the descendants of those rulers regularly abuse said power and will do anything they so choose to do so.

Also, I would like to point out that Gorosei. By his clothes, he looks like he might have come out of Wano, but interesting to note is that his sword is a. not worn at the waist like most samurai, instead carried by hand, and 2. the blade appears to be longer in proportion to the handle. Kinda reminds you of the best princess in Dresrossa arc.
After all these years we still don't know what the Gorosei's names are lol

Still not sure. All of CP9 were pursued by the marines after Enies Lobby but they got away. Next thing we know, Lucci and Kaku are members of CP0.

See the throne chapter the , on the throne there is a pointer over world govt sign like a compass and further dots which represents islands on the grand line. The five dots cross on the world govt represents 5 elite families of world noble who share the authority in the world govt. ( Gorosei)

it all points to more heated navy-government relations since he took over as Fleet Admiral.
There's Issho and Sengoku, on the other hand, who disapprove of the Government's decisions. And Garp too, who refused to become an Admiral, because that'd mean becoming another of the Celestial Dragons' bodyguards.
(After Marineford, Sengoku was actually outraged when the Government refused to make public the Impel Down breakout for PR reasons.)

The Government might be watching these three, whom they see as "potential future agitators."
And now that Garp's been captured by the Blackbeard Pirates, they'll probably wash his hands off him.
