I watched this while playing it

I'm pretty sure at this point there should be a PHD dedicated to a *modest* understanding of how EU4's Fort mechanics work...
They seem super complicated at first but once someone explains them to you they become pretty easy to figure out. Just search for an explanation on YT and you'll be an expert in 10 mins.
forshor1998 I wish I could say the same for trade, I’ve played this game for like 1,200 hours and watched so many tutorials on trade but there’s so much I don’t know about it.
@@yungmalaria Reman's Paradox does a pretty dang good job covering trade in great detail without getting too technical, but yeah it's one of those things Paradox should probably make a little more clear. I personally prefer Stellaris's system, but I eventually figured out EU4's trade system. I still can't stand forts, as once you finally think you know everything you either learn something NEW that doesn't make sense or you realize you've forgotten some small thing you previously knew.
RoverStorm That’s the one I’ve seen... twice, it’s not an easy system to grasp eh
@@yungmalaria Yeah trade is a very complicated system with several asterisks attached to most scenarios. The thing that makes trade even more headache inducing is that even if you spend the 30 mins figuring out what each and every modifier does and how to obtain them it's still near impossible to figure out exactly how trade will be affected by each decision, province, modifier and war simply because there are too many interconnected variables.
That being said, once you have a basic understanding and pick up a few general rules for best practise with trade you can typically make a really good amount of money for it. Start with an end node trade port if you can, and if you can't make your trade port an end node then go as far along a trade path stream as you can easily maintain control. Second, expand upstream of said trade node and steer towards the main port, the longer the chain the better. 3 trade nodes in a line may well be better than 4 trade nodes all converging from different angles. Try to focus on trade nodes with a lot of money going through them. Build as many light ships as you have force limit for - necessary other boats and patrol as far up as you can until you see largely diminishing returns then send the rest upstream. Focus on conquering important centres of trade and upgrading them. To position your merchants collect at home then steer wherever you have decent power % and where there's decent money and it's going in another direction. Embargo rivals but basically no one else. Rival the people who have a lot of trade power in your node if you can. Build manufactories too in places you have good control, whilst they don't always seem to make much money they add a fair bit of trade cash in the regions they're in. To get more merchants use trade companies or colonial nations. Merchant republics are the bomb since they increase production of all other nations in trade regions so they can uniquely nick all the good trade ports in an area and leave everything else so that the node makes hella more cash for far less land. Modifiers to focus are trade efficiency, provincial or global trade power and mercantilism, the rest are trash in comparison.
Typical good trade channels are venice/genoa via egypt to india, china and the spice islands or from new world to gold coast to the english channel. You can also go all the way around africa as the british to get that sweet indian money.
Congrats, prep to get hella rich. Countries with bad trade tend to haemorrhage money at force limit without many cannons whilst trade nations can support a cannon for every infantry and have all merc infantry and still make a hefty profit, trade is that important for success.
My favourite trade campaign was playing Holland into Netherlands and going all around Africa for spice, was banking 5 ducats a month with only 3 provinces early game and late game had grand shipyards and regimental camps in almost every province. As you can tell I'm a massive paradox nerd playing 1000's of hours of paradox games with my mate whilst drinking heavily and in EU4 we always split land by trade regions since IMO it's one of the two potential keys to success (the other is manpower, but who needs that with mercs?). Sorry if this was boring as hell :P
Who is george washington? Didn't you learn about the glorious 1st president Samuel Middelton in school?
Probably some fictional hero who claimed to have wooden teeth and all those myths.
Wait I’m pretty sure Samuel Middleton was the guy who ended slavery right? And then Lincoln just came in and took the credit
To be fair, Washington was not President in 1776, he was running the Continental Army, which the game shows, but I still have no idea who Samuel Middleton is.

Ok
@Étienne Caron good job, you just finished the tutorial
I was laughing so hard my neck hurt and my eyes were watering. Nice one.
The last time I came this early my dad was still here
Lol same
EU4 wasn't forgotten. Some of the more DLC, mostly recent ones, just weren't that great. Paradox made changes that made the game increasingly complicated which might not always be bad, but could be annoying. Not to mention anti-blobbing updates that made expansion a pain some times. It's really unfortunate because i like EU4 a lot more than the other paradox games and some DLC are actually pretty good.
In my opinion the good ones are: Common Sense, El Dorado, Rights of man and Cradle of Civilization. All of these DLC added lots of key features, and/or made an area a lot more interesting.
Then there are some ones that are just forgettable: Conquest of Paradise, wealth of Nations, Res Publica, Mare Nostrum. These just added too little or added stuff that should have been in the base game from the beginning.
Then the bad stuff: Mandate of Heaven --> succeded to make east Asia simple way more boring by making Ming way too powerful and stable. Dharma --> unnessesery DLC for an area that was already really powerful and interesting. ALL THE IMERSION PACKS --> way too few content for it's price, with most of the content, the mission trees, being stuff that is nice, but shouldn't ever be the main thing someone pays for. This terrible habbit was transferred from HOI4. Mission trees can be made by mods, and therefor are cheap content.
Woosh. The forgotten games was not EU IV, it was the start dates of EU IV.
Wosh
Probs cuz the last few patches have been trash, I’ve been riding the CK2 train lately
Well Ming has always been historically stable at the beginning of this time period. It never really collapsed like it did before. They were simply overtaken by the Manchuria nation that took advantage of Ming’s situation when they were dealing with lots of internal issues.
Going to have to disagree on Common Sense, I still am salty over them making a fundamental change to the game's mechanics, that being development, but locking the new and only way to develop your provinces behind a DLC.
1:29 - pretty late to the party but that was a real thing. This was known as Shuysky Tribute which was the act of homage of the deposed Tsar Vasily to the Polish King on October 29, 1611

I remember there was a start date for ottomans where you start out at war with Poland and it let’s you dissolve the personal union in the peace deal for 0 warscore. I think you go to the 1453 start date and it’s a few years or something around that.

Also looking at later start dates and then returning to 1444 leads to many problems. Best example is Ashikaga becomes a normal kingdom with a bajillion vassals instead of a proper shogunate, so his diplo power is way in the negatives and his vassals can't kill each other.

Alternate start dates would be more fun if they didnt start in wars but had scripted historical events in the first month to choose to go to war or not.
